Sorry, but: Suck it up. Family is like that. They only exist to make your life harder.
We had to make our traditional family breakfast (for Easter) into family lunch. My brother is having the night shift and works till 6 am. Too soon for the rest of us, so we changed tradition.
Can't you watch before they come? I usually get up at 5 or 6. At that time it's normally already online.
Exactly. What I hate most are those breaks between seasons. It's already hard with the longer seasons (22 or 23 eps), where you have to wait 4 or 5 months. But with shorter seasons (10 or 12 eps) its 8 months or more. That is just torture.
Well if I had to take one or the other I would take the books EASILY!
However, I think not knowing the books does make it easier for the non-readers to enjoy the series.
I do like some of the new scenes and consider a few of them as improvements honestly, but others are so inferior to the books or actually contrary to the character that there is an adjustment for readers I guess.... Some have no issues accepting any changes in the series and others hate any changes. Period.
Myself I tend to fall about down the middle enjoying 50% of the changes and disliking 50%. Well honestly more like 30% I enjoy, 40% make no difference to me, and 30% I dislike.
That is the worst part about international viewers for shows from around the world. I have that issue with UK series and others from outside the US have it for the American shows of course.
At least there is some hope for BBC and HBO series as there has been the beginnings of discussion about making BBC iPlayer andHBO Go international. That would allow subscribers to stream it as it airs or immediately after it airs.
I have only read A Game of Thrones so far, and then I went onto the novellas-prequel: The Tales of the Dunk and the Egg (Which I love!), but I did go to the Song of Ice and Fire wiki and spoiled myself rotten with A Storm of Swords plots and certain characters over all (It actually really helped me get all the houses and locations straight.).
From being someone though that hasn't read all the books first, I find that although the books flesh out things better (because your going from character perspectives and there are flashbacks), I highly enjoy HBO's version, because I actually like not knowing for fact what every character is thinking.and seeing it unfold from an outsider looking in perspective.
I watched the first season on HBO and then bought all the books and read them before saeson 2, so I have tried both. I enjoyed the story even more after reading the books. Characters that seem small in the series are sometimes bigger in the books (or will have a larger part later on). It´s great to see your favorite characters from the books develop on screen.
Yes, sometimes I get dissapointed with a scene that I had pictured differently, but overall I prefer knowing more of the characters background.
Ha. :-) I´m not religious.....it is just easier to make time for everybody when you have the day off. Maybe I should pray to The Seven, for them to go home early.
Ya they take place @ 80 years before the events of GOT, but they're short stories (3 so far: The Hedge Knight, Sworn Sword, The Mystery Knight with another due out sometime soon: The She-Wolves of Winterfell.). But the thing is, they're in author collection books, you can't buy them separate/by themselves yet.
Supposedly GRRM will release the fourth Dunk & Egg Novella in an upcoming anthology then there will be an official Dunk and Egg release of the first 4 novellas will be published as Dunk and Egg Volume 1.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

*Shrug*
Who knows if and when either will happen though.
One of the benefits of being a godless heathen like myself... less holidays that demand my attention and presence! XD

ReplyDeleteWhen they find a way to monetize it ;)
Indeed... sigh.

ReplyDeleteHouse Mode "Everything Counts"
ReplyDeleteAn homage to Depeche Mode, the origin of this username I created 10 or 12 years ago for a dM fansite..
BTW...
ReplyDeleteYou have an existing house in the GOT world to which you could already belong. One member of said house should make quite an appearance this season!
