Game of Thrones - Season 3 - Critics Quotes Preview

Mar 30, 2013

Another preview from HBO.
Mostly similar footage to previous trailers mixed in with quotes from critics's reviews. However, it does feature a longer look at Melisandre talking to a dark-haired young man that appears to be Gendry and a nice look at Astapor from Dany's ship. Enjoy.

  1. Looks to be more confirmation of an earlier speculated change from the books...

Wow, that vista of Astapor from Dany's ship is AMAZING!

  2. IF the assumptions that the dark-haired man in the video is Gendry are correct, then that is a new scene between Melisandre and Gendry since they never met in the books.

Some have theorized that Gendry will take the place of Edric Storm and Mel is visiting him to get some blood.....

  3. I hope that this isn't true, while i always wished gendry would find out who his father is, I also think that edric storm's story would be horrible being played by a grown man compared to a little boy. In my opinion the show would have to alter edric storms storyline to fit gendry plus then do we missed gendry, hotpie and arya interactions with the brotherhood without banners.

  4. I'm not sure how I feel about it either....
Both are Robert's bastards so they satisfy the same goal for Mel I guess. If the scene takes place after Arya leaves the BwoB we could in theory get all those scenes, plus new scenes.

The concern I have is Gendry being at the Inn later on in AFfC to meet up with Brienne. I suppose Melisandre may not take him to Dragonstone or Davos could rescue him as he did Edric leaving Gendry free to be in the Riverlands and reconnect with his AFfC arc.

All in all I guess I don't see it as too major of a change and suspect this is one of many changes along these lines we will have to deal with as the series goes on. They will want to tweak current regular cast parts to keep them on screen and active when they are inactive in the books.

  6. I think this change makes a lot of sense, considering other cases, when multiple characters were united into one. Just like we have Ros instead of numerous different whores or ser Meryn instead of a bunch of the King's Guard knights. Of all the changes they're making, this is actually one I don't have any problems with and I'm curious to see how it plays out.

  7. Nice! I think I will like the change of Edric = Gendry, if done properly.
Good to see a shot of Arya at 0:21 with a certain someone. :P

  8. If handled properly I think this one could be quite good too.
Part of me balks at any substantial changes upon first hearing about them, but I do know they need to change a lot to format it to TV...
