FOX ORDERS A SECOND SEASON OF HIT DRAMA “THE FOLLOWING”

FOX has ordered a second season of the year’s most thrilling new series THE FOLLOWING, it was announced today by Kevin Reilly, Chairman of Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company.

“From the very beginning, we felt Kevin Williamson and Marcos Siega had created a high-quality, edge-of-your-seat drama that could break from the pack, and it is exciting to see the audience responding,” said Reilly. “Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy have given us two of the most compelling characters on television and the entire cast is incredible. I’m delighted to have this thrill ride continue on FOX for another season.”

After only six airings, THE FOLLOWING is already the No. 2 broadcast drama and the No. 3 drama overall this season with Live+7 ratings. Since it launched, the psychological thriller has also quickly established itself as one of the most buzzed-about series in social media, ranking as the No. 1 new broadcast drama in total social comments.

FOX COMEDIES “NEW GIRL,” “THE MINDY PROJECT” AND “RAISING HOPE” PICKED UP FOR 2013-2014 SEASON

FOX has picked up comedy series NEW GIRL, THE MINDY PROJECT and RAISING HOPE for the 2013-14 season, it was announced today by Kevin Reilly, Chairman of Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. NEW GIRL was picked up for a third season, THE MINDY PROJECT received a second season order and RAISING HOPE was renewed for a fourth season.

“We love working with these talented producers and casts who, week after week, create some of the funniest work on television,” said Reilly. “These shows are creatively vibrant, they have established a loyal and passionate audience and they will continue to define and grow the FOX comedy brand next season and beyond.”

Season to date, NEW GIRL ranks No. 1 among comedies in its core Women 18-34 demographic and is a Top 10 comedy among Adults 18-49. THE MINDY PROJECT has emerged as the No. 1 new comedy of the season among Women 18-34, while RAISING HOPE, which has anchored FOX’s Tuesday nights this season, is a Top 20 sitcom among Adults 18-34 and Teens.

  5. You forgot to tag new girl

  6. Yeeeeeees for The Following. I doubt any of my favorite characters will make it to season two to be honest, but it's still great news!!

  7. I just added it right before you said something. I thought I did it during the second update, but apparently not.

  9. I just couldn't get into at all, Fox gave more attention to it as well but then that was to be expected they made a huge deal about getting Mindy. Hey at least I have Raising Hope.

  11. Good news for The Following, let's hope the early renewal helps keep it steady when it goes against The Voice come March 25th.

  13. Cool for New Girl and The Following. But I am thoroughly surprised that The Mindy Project was renewed. I thought that show would tank hard.

  14. Raising Hope, whooo !

Best comedy on network TV, folks, period. (and it's a deanvoted Human Being and Knope supporter who's saying that)

I understand why Raising Hope doesn't have the broad appeal of New Girl (unless you count Maw Maw and Barney as "shipping" :D) and this is one of the reasons why I love it so much. No mainstream humor, no romantic stuff (except a very light, even enjoyable love triangle in some of the first 38 episodes), all the characters are capable of being crazy, more and more subtle self-awareness in a very imaginative writing... I just love it.

The fact that Raising Hope lives on without drawing huge crowds or a devoted following suits me just fine, as long they keep producing such comedy goodness. Maybe in a few years when the show is finished, people will catch up and realize what they were missing on (okay, it's not AD-good, but it's still brilliant).

(Now if they could clarify whether we have 2 or 4 more episodes to look forward to this season...)

That's one show crossed off my "I'm worried about its renewal" list. Now, among the shows I perceive as 'not a lock for renewal', I just need the following shows to be renewed :

    - Community (NBC - think of all the Norwegian trolls you will find on your doorstep, Greenblatt - also think of all the flops you've had this season to continue trusting a reliable fan favorite).
    - Parks and Rec (NBC - they have no choice but to renew it, not overly worried).
    - Parenthood (NBC - they have no choice but to renew it (thanks, Smash), not overly worried).
    - Go On (NBC - please, The Voice, come back soon and make Go On's ratings look good).
    - Suburgatory (ABC - not overly worried, it's not a hit despite Modern Family, but it's enough).
    - Happy Endings (ABC - I think it'll take a disastrous pilot season to renew it, so let's hope for that).
    - Cougar Town (TBS - most people are seeing in this show something I don't, clearly, and it's still way too much about couple problems and Scrubs-like endings, but it's likeable I guess).
    - The Cleveland Show (FOX - not the most popular of the MacFarlane animated shows, but it passes the time very well, and there often bursts of very funny stuff amidst occasionally funny episodes).
    - Touch (FOX - now that one is a very long shot, I just hope there is closure).
    - The Good Wife (CBS - think of prestige, CBS, think of quality, you can't brag about many of your shows).
    - SouthLAnd (TNT - think of prestige, TNT, think of quality, you can't brag about many of your shows).
    - Enlightened (HBO - it worries me it wasn't renewed with Girls, despite being better).
    - Legit (FX - it worries me it wasn't renewed with Archer, despite this show being a blast).

  29. it's going to be 15 episodes

  30. Well actually thinking about it, 15 with no breaks like this season sounds good.

    ReplyDelete
  31. It is pretty good. I have to say they have to stop making the cops and FBI so damn stupid though. If a criminal is advancing on you and you have the gun ..how the heck do you end up dead. Stupid.

  32. According to Sean Conaway (one of the writers), the two additional episodes will roll into season 4, which means we'll only get 2 more episodes this season on March 28.

  33. So happy for the Mindy P. New Girl and Raising Hope. They all deserve another season. Yay.
