From HBO: “It was a very difficult decision. We’ve decided not to continue Enlightened for a third season. We’re proud of the show and we look forward to working with Mike White and Laura Dern in the future.”
Actually, it really doesn't : 632,000 viewers watched the Girls finale last Sunday, but in fact around 4.6 million HBO subscribers have/will see it : http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/envelope/cotown/la-et-ct-hbo-girls-ratings-20130318,0,4710473.story That's almost 8 times the number of viewers at the Sunday 9pm airing. So it's likely the number of Enlightened viewers is much, much higher with DVR, HBO Go & HBO on Demand. I know the show isn't a big hit despite that fact, but I just wanted to point that out.
And Enlightened got 220,000 viewers for its finale at 9:30 on March 3, followed by a repeat at 10:30pm that got 185,000 more viewers, so it's more like 405,000 viewers for the finale on that night (http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2013/03/05/sunday-cable-ratings-the-walking-dead-wins-night-the-bible-vikings-shameless-real-housewives-of-atlanta-pawn-stars-more/171909/comment-page-2/#comments )
HBO has made a huge mistake in my opinion, along with Boardwalk and GOT it was their best show. Way better than the grossly overrated Girls and the extremely disappointing Newsroom.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

that is so sad :(
ReplyDeleteA truly great show, fondly remembered by the few who watched it, and I'm glad I'm one of them.
ReplyDeleteThe ending works just fine for a series finale, all of those who're wondering if it's worth starting : YES.
Bummer! It was SO under rated and I loved it! :(
ReplyDeleteAll of the actors on Southland seem to have landed pilots already....
ReplyDeleteEnlightened got 126,000 viewers in it's finale? I think that tells you everything.

I'm still bummed over the loss of Bored to Death tbh.
ReplyDeleteDespite all of its critical acclaim, HBO still decides to let it go. How unfortunate.
ReplyDeleteOn a side note while we're talking HBO, I have a feeling Girls' third season may be its last if it's ratings keep slipping. Which would suck.
I guess for HBO, that would make the decision to renew a bit tougher.
ReplyDelete126,000 live viewers is still pitiful...
