Call it “Being Blackbeard.”
Two-time Academy Award nominee John Malkovich has landed the lead role of Blackbeard in NBC’s summer series Crossbones, TVLine has learned.
The 10-episode action-adventure series, greenlit by NBC last May and written and co-executive produced by Luther‘s Neil Cross, takes place in 1715 and promises to deliver “the true legend” of “the most notorious pirate to ever sail the earth.”

Woohoo ! I'm a bit disappointed that NBC couldn't make it work with Hugh Laurie, but still, thrilled that they could get an actor as great as John Malkovich !
ReplyDeleteJohn Malkovich + Neil Cross + action/adventure + XVIIIth century pirates + 10-episode season (with such a concept it's better to be sure of your episode count) = awesome.
Hopefully NBC being a factor in this formula won't render it void (it would be a shame if it bombed, is what I mean, because it definitely could be a hit on pay-cable or FX/AMC - same for Hannibal, actually).
Stellar news!
ReplyDeleteHugh Laurie would have been interesting, but wow at them getting John Malkovich. Wow. I'm definitely checking it out.
ReplyDeleteI feel like NBC is making some bold and good moves lately, they're having shorter seasons with some great casting, but I definitely feel these shows- Crossbones, Hannibal and Dracula would fare better on cable or FX. I'm especially crossing my fingers for Hannibal, because being on Thursdays at 10pm, I doubt it'll be a rating hit.
ReplyDeleteThis is cool but it's also the last thing I'd ever expect Malkovich to do. They must have delivered a dump truck full of money to his house to make this happen.
ReplyDeleteYay! John Malkovich rules! I´m not into the pirate scene at all, but I will watch this. :-)
ReplyDeleteAaaannnnddd helllll no. Would have watched it for Hugh Laurie. John Malkovich is only good at playing John Malkovich. Although, that's the kind of actor Americans seem to generally like.
