Imo it got better, since there's only so many times you can almost get a couple together before pulling em away from the finish line, before it grows stale. And castle the show was rapidly getting there. At least it doesn't get in the way off storytelling anymore (nor is a cheap excuse for excessive drama anymore)
That's a really good question. I don't know if the show is better or "worse" now... It's just different. I loved all the angst and longing before and now I love Beckett and Castle as couple, cause these two are just too damn adorable.
I almost agree with you... I also sometimes I think that way. But then i see all those moments that they are sharing in this season n "all that above" goes away in a flash :)
I'd vote "neither" if there was an option. Both BA and AF ("Before Always" and "After Always") are great, but the writing has been lacking this season. How many episodes have passed by with no romantic interaction between Castle and Beckett this season? Why make them a couple at all if they aren't going to explore their relationship in anything but the most cursory of ways? The few episodes they've actually unleashed Beckett and Castle have been exceptional, but there needs to be a LOT more. So, while this season has been weaker in general, it isn't the fact that they're a couple that is the problem. It is the fact that they aren't ENOUGH of a couple, and that is the fault of the writers.
Imo Castle has got a different vibe since Beckett and Castle got together but that doesn't mean that it's a better or worse show than before. I enjoy seeing Castle and Beckett as a couple and love the show just as much as before.! :)
imo, i would say castle has been a little off in s4 and s5 crime solving wise, except for caskett moments (except for beckett's mom and some eps) . s1,s2,s3 all the eps both crime solving and flirty banter was top class... this poll sure gonna cause some little fight i think
I really don't think its fair to compare 81 episodes of 4 seasons vs only just 14 episodes of just one season. I won't vote for either option. For me all those pre-Always moments are as precious and important to the story as the scenes that we now get of them as a couple. Its wonderful to watch even now. So if anything, i love this show all the more now :)
I am generally against 2 character leads getting together as it can ruin the show once the tension is removed from the character relationships. However Castle is a good example of how it can be done well. So I liked it before, and I still like it now.
Neither. I'd say this so far isn't my favorite season (it's S3 btw) but I wouldn't go to the extent of saying the show has declined.
For example: one particular scene in the Xmas episode I clearly remember thinking 'this could be better & more coherent' was when Beckett & Castle said goodbye in the precinct, they could have shook hands! But the episode was pretty good all in all.
Also, I agree that there were some episodes that totally did not explore the relationship. Even before they were together, the case itself would usually center on an issue that they were divided on hence promoting conversation, understanding and compromise that added layers to their relationship.
So yeah, it's these minor quirks. But I guess the writers are wary that focusing too much on the relationship will change the character of the show too much for the liking of non-relationship-based fans and exploring too much too fast might not be a good thing.
Keeping the C/B apart after season four made no sense, it would have felt like AWM was jerking the fan base around. The problem isn't the fact that C/B are together, it's that TPTB haven't figured out how to write a story that encapsulates romance, comedy and intense drama into forty-two minuets. I for one thought that making C/B a couple would open the flood gates for naughty, outrageous dialog and comedic situations, but TPTB can't seem to make the flow remotely even. It's the same old problem with this series, situations one week aren't reflected the next, sometimes it's almost as if they never happened.
I loved every season so can't vote for either option. The angst was great but so is the developing relationship. The cases and support cast are the same as always.
For a show like this, which is basically based on that relationship, they really have two choices. Prolong it and piss people off or do it and piss people off.
I'm still not sure how I feel about it, really. It feels like a bit of a different show to me now, though it still has that great mix of drama and comedy that I love so much, but I'm not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing yet.
I voted yes, not because I loved the angst. But because I feel like I get less Nathan Fillion crafty writer witty fun and more him making stupid relationship mistakes to cause drama. The guy's been married and dated a lot, he's not that stupid and anything that makes Beckett shrewish makes me dislike her for a second or two. I preferred the show without the romance storylines taking up time.
The series is incredibly good, the problem is not the characters, are the writers that for some strange reason many of the previous episodes have shown " hollow" on the transition for them, something has not been working properly Apparently someone has noticed that (** (either by the avalanche of comments and suggestions of the fan) **) or another reason and have taken action, as we have seen a gradual change in recent episodes. Surely they have to set the "concave and convex" between them (love affair) while resolving cases of murderers in NY as always they do.
Today everyone will have the opportunity to see one of two of the best chapters/episode of the season, is an Emmy undoubtedly....!!!! I can not reveal/spoiler anything, just not to miss for any reason these two episodes .. (Do not miss any of the episodes every Monday night)
No. The excuses for keeping them apart were starting to make less and less sense, it seemed a bit artificial, as if it all was just so the writers could hang on to the drama some more. Not that I didn't love the show before Always, but it's better like this.
Need to have "neither" or "both" as options. Myself, I've been happy with both the BA & AA (thanks Blackfel for the acronyms) worlds. Yeah would like to have seen (well at least 14 episodes in) so far a little more physical hands-on together moments in the AA world but they have been showing their coupleness in other ways (i.e. looks, touches, comments, actions, and from 1st of 2-parter tonight being there in time of your partners greatest need, etc). There is a lot more to relationships than that of the sexual kind. Keep in mind we still have 10 more episodes left (including the 100th which from what spoiler alerts have been we will get some more of what we've been wanting) so still time. In Marlow I trust
"the writers are wary that focusing too much on the relationship will change the character of the show too much for the liking of non-relationship-based fans and exploring too much too fast might not be a good thing", except that with that the bigger group of people who quit watching the show were the ones who were rooting since the beginning for them to be together. They can't please both Greeks and Trojans at the same time, but they could make an effort.
I found season 5 better than any individual season so far and this is why. Very few filler episodes. So far out of 14 episodes only 2 can be considered possibly a filler. Compared to season 3 with 7 and season 4 with 11 I think the writing is crisper and the acting is superb.
I don't think people are generally pissed off because they did it. I do think some people (myself included) are pissed off because they haven't done it very well. When they're allowed to play the heat, the show is excellent. The problem is, most of the eps have been pretty lukewarm.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Great poll question.
ReplyDeleteI much preferred the old castle, making them a couple has taken an edge off the show
I think it'll get better with time, but there was something about the longing that kept people intrigued.
ReplyDeleteI loved them before, but love them even more now!

ReplyDeleteImo the show is better off for it.
No, it's the same show for me. It never ceases to entertain me and make me feel better.

ReplyDeleteYup, bang on.

ReplyDeleteIt was the same.

ReplyDeleteI love it the same. Although, 4 full seasons cannot be compared with only half of season 5. I guess we'll see later at some point.

ReplyDeleteThere has to be a 3rd option. It's as great as it used to be.

ReplyDeleteRight on the spot!
ReplyDeleteYou couldn't be right about this. :D
Neither.
