  1. Without a doubt, Lost. I love some of the other shows (Chuck/24), but the impact Lost had, whether you enjoyed the show or not, is unmistakable. They changed the format of TV in my opinion, at least good TV, good storytelling. A heavy mythology, tremendous characters, and crazy mysteries that kept many of us up for weeks trying to decipher the meaning of anything that showed up on our screens.

  2. i actually haven't seen lost or 24, but from what the fans have been saying and the impact on popular culture, i'd say these two are certainly influential in the action genre. monk was probably one of the most 'modern' 2000s tv shows to be inspired by sherlock holmes (followed by other detective shows like mentalist, castle and psych), and even the term 'monkish' everyone kinda knows- so monk is also influential to the last 10 years too. OTH is a great show for teen dramas, and lasting 9 years and showing teenagers and young adults a lot of life lessons is great for a show, and in my opinion, i think OTH is perhaps one of the best teen dramas of today's generation (however, i may be biased as i saw the whole 9 seasons within a month!).

  3. Lost!! Without a doubt. Not just an incredible show in itself but other shows have been trying (with little to no success) to recreate what lost had effortlessly.
One of the best show I've ever seen with incredible story telling, it changed the way tv is told today

  4. 24 for me. The way the showed it was brilliantly innovative. Each series presented over a day? Awesome.

  5. Objectively speaking: Lost

I mean personally yeah I think it's a bit overrated (please don't throw stuff at me!), but it has definitely been the most influential show of the 00'

  6. Lost. I haven't watched it whole, but it's obvious that it has inspired a lot of other TV shows, even its producers and writers are still making shows influenced by it, and I won't even mention the cultural impact it left in television.

  7. Lost, it was new and different when it came out and has inspired a lot of other shows. It was also the first show that made me run to the computer, two minutes after it was over, to debate it with fans all over the world. It had the right amount of mystery mixed with some great characters.
If it was not for Lost I would never have found Spoiler TV.

  8. Definitely Lost. Not a perfect show by any means, but its influence cannot be denied. It changed the landscape of modern television with consistently non-linear storytelling and a strong serialized format.

  9. LOST. Ever since it ended, there's been so many TV shows that were advertised as being ''the next LOST''. Flashforward tried and failed. So did The Event, especially considering they said they would be giving answers very quickly... I still have no clue what the title of that last one actually refers to! I know there are more, but after those two I didn't bother to try any of them.

I'm going to make some strange comparisons now, but the only shows that I've seen that are close to LOST are The Walking Dead and Game Of Thrones. Both have that ''no one is safe'' atmosphere, and both started out pretty ''normally'' and got crazier and crazier as they went on, with unexpected twists and exciting cliffhangers in almost every episode.

  10. Lost & Battlestar Galactica (reimaged).

Both are two of some of the first heavily serialized TV series that revived and bent the Science Fiction genre into philosophical and socially thought provoking dramas!

Being a J.J. Abrams fan, one can really see the capacity for telling deep emotional stories continuing in tradition of extraordinary and fate-orientated circumstances, but in a much grander or epic way in Lost, then perhaps Alias or Fringe. Besides's Bad Robot's other works, others haven't been able to duplicate what makes Bad Robot stand out: unique characters with great casts, stories that bend genres and use space time as a thematic and contrasting factor, nostalgi- heart warming and heart breaking experiences, with dialogue and mythology that tends to perminate the brain, while allowing ourselves to go on a great mystery tour over and over again.

Ronald Moore and Co. did an excellent job in reviving an outdated science fiction show and re-use it in a very modern way to ask heavy questions about Theology, Faith, Creation, War, Family, Duty, and Existentialism. It had great visuals and a great cast. Now cable networks like Showtime, HBO, and Cinemax have bringing us material that asks the same kinds of questions, although it has yet be done again science fiction aesthetic.

I think both of these shows were ahead of their times.

  11. One Tree Hill? Where's Supernatural. The large majority of popular shows nowadays got their start due to Supernatural.

  12. For me it's ER, without it there would be no grey's anatomy, Private practice or any other medical drama.

  13. Lost might have been a great show, but I wouldn't call it influential. Maybe SNL, because of Sarah Palin...

  14. On this list I would have to say LOST.
So many other shows tried to capture that magic in a bottle and most failed miserably. XD

I may add some cable series like Oz, The Sopranos, and The Shield.....

Some of the early Cable TV series like that showed that top quality drama had a home on cable TV and was not only capable of garnering critical accolades, but also creating a story on their own terms without the heavy-handed shepherding of the network executives.

  15. CSI fresh never done before and the start of all things procedural..

  16. I think One Tree Hill is in this poll as in the teen/family drama category, the show is pretty influential and has some great life lessons to be learnt about everyday life and relationships. The show covers a multitude of issues (from teen pregnancies, dealing with the death of a loved one, the value of a best friend, sibling relationships, to redemption, forgiveness, accepting people for who they are, owning up to your mistakes and dealing with the consequences of them, and trying to be the best version of yourself that you can be)- I'm sure that there are other issues in the series, and no doubt other shows have these issues too, but I think One Tree Hill has delivered all of these issues perfectly; it must have done something right as the show went on for 9 years. This poll isn't about popular shows (I agree with you that Supernatural would be on that list), but influential- having great power and impact over someone's life. And that is what I think One Tree Hill is- a show that will always have a fanbase and will always have something to say, in 10, 20, maybe 50 years time!

  17. Lost and 24, after this a lot of tv shows copy their style.

  18. Lost and The wire.

  19. I would say Lost because every tv series seem to do regular flashbacks now. I would also say Desperate Housewives. Even though it's not the most influential series it definitely changed the way women were portrayed on tv.

  20. Cold Case, although it only lasted for seven years it was pretty neat how they filmed using film from various decades along with the music

  21. ER.

It went from 1994 - 2009 and taught many people about the basics of medicine. Their programs on getting tested for breast cancer and the importance of vaccination probably saved a number of lives.

Second choice CSI because it changed how real life juries now view forensic evidence.

  22. Chuck: first show where the fans had a huge part in its survival- they knew it was on the bubble, so instead of just shouting and begging at NBC and Warner Bros. they got smart and reached out to advertisers by buying footlong subways on the night of the season 2 finale and wrote that they were buying it for chuck in the comments section. That was; exucse the pun; 'Awesome'!

  23. I think probably Lost. It got networks to look at science fiction again and to take risks....looking for shows that didn't fit a mold.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Off that list - Lost. A lot of Bad Robot shows have been influenced by that show. I couldn't get into Lost, but I hear all the time the little similarities between the show and another.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I find Jack Bauer is far more influential in everyday speech than any other show.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Like the show or not, I guess LOST has been one of the most influential shows of the previous decade.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Without hesitation LOST, I could name hundreds of TV shows and movies that have tried to copy something that Lost did.
