Well The Mentalist has been renewed for another season anyway. And I actually predicted when it got the timeslot it currently has that it would be cancelled at the end of 2013-14.
ReplyDeleteit has not been renewed
ReplyDeleteVegas and CSI NY will probably the the next ones to go
ReplyDelete....ABC???
ReplyDeleteNot all of the shows are on here.
ReplyDeleteThe Mentalist is airing on Sunday...but still it's a strong show despite the ratings. If it scored 1.5 last week, it was because of the bad promotion from CBS, as always.
ReplyDeleteAnd the fact that it was on a two week break and the timeslot was pushed back a few minutes because of golf
ReplyDeleteParks better get another season I can't live without it.
ReplyDeleteWow that's optimistic about Revolution, considering the second half hasn't aired yet. I hope they're right!
ReplyDeleteAnd still... how can The Good Wife don't be in danger when its ratings are lower every week?! I don't get it.
ReplyDeleteIt's not a confirmation, these are likely prospects given the data so far.
ReplyDeleteI feel like it should be on there too, but really this is one site reporting it, you go to TVline, TV Guide and you'll get different answers. TGW is a critical darling of course
ReplyDeleteIt might given that most of their shows are flopping.
ReplyDeleteI know right...
ReplyDeleteYes, indeed!
ReplyDeleteDeadline tends to be way more accurate than the others
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping so, though that would be logical and NBC is far from logical these days.
ReplyDeleteI think Good Wife is in a safe position because right now its the only non Cable drama which has any hopes of doing well at award shows like the Emmys. Now awards aren't everything but I do think it helps the show.
ReplyDeleteI'm relieved to see that Hart of Dixie, Parks and Rec, and Parenthood are "likely", and even that Community is possible. I wish more people appreciated it! I think I'd like to see more of Go On, too.
ReplyDeleteGo On should have been a sure thing for NBC but that network has done everything in their power to get viewers to tune out and forget about it. All the preemptions, hiatuses, and schedule shuffling has damn near tanked a show that started out as a hit.
ReplyDeleteI really hope 'Vegas' isn't cancelled. I've enjoyed it thus far.
ReplyDeleteDidn't say it wasn't
ReplyDeleteThe best news here is that Community went from "finished" to "possible"!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWell SImon Baker recived his star on the Walk of Fame... it's not an award, but it's very important.
ReplyDeleteFor CBS, a show like "The good wife" is not about ratings. It's about prestige. It's one of the only shows they have for which they can get awards and even though it doesn't attract as many viewers as other shows, those viewers are mostly in the upper bracket for disposable income. In short, The Good Wife is a sure thing for renewal.
ReplyDeleteParks and Community definitely need to be renewed, they're by far the best comedies on TV. And by an even wider margin, the best shows on NBC.
ReplyDeleteIt also had The Voice as a lead in.
ReplyDeleteUnofficial, last year together with season 5.
ReplyDeleteI really hope Nikita makes it, even if it's for a final season
ReplyDeleteAnd Vegas isn't in danger? Wow.
ReplyDeleteI actually can't believe they're still stretching this out:
CSI:NY and Vegas need to go; The Mentalist and The Good Wife should have their final seasons. If Golden Boy does good, pick it up, if not, cancel it!
To get a star on the walk of fame all you need is four thousand dollars,at least that is that is what it cost 2 yrs ago.It isn't very important for the actor, sure, its nice getting a star on the walk of fame but an Emmy or Sag award is more important..
ReplyDeletecancellation bear said Hart of Dixie is still a toss up...hope that's not true and this is..
ReplyDeleteBut it is in danger.
ReplyDeleteI think the lure of syndication might just get Nikita a 4th season.
ReplyDeleteHow is Nikita a 'Toss Up'? TVBTN now have it as 'Likely Renewal' and it has hit a few season highs after the fluke series lows at the start of the season.
ReplyDeleteI need atleast one more season of SVU, preferable more but for now I'll settle with one more. Pretty please NBC!!
ReplyDeleteThe season highs are still bad ratings. The only draw Nikita holds for The CW network is the possible syndication money the show may bring. At this point the network has to weigh the cost of producing another season (at another financial loss) with the prospect of selling the show into syndication after a fourth season. If the network isn't sure they can recoup their losses through syndication sales they may cut their losses and cancel the show.
ReplyDeleteTaking that timeslot will cost the show its life. As I know all too well from CSI: Miami...
ReplyDeleteBeauty and the beast deserves a Second chance !!! :)))))))
ReplyDeleteThe fourth season will probably be the last, but it's very likely to happen, since The CW wants to get the show to 88 episodes which makes it much easier (and more profitable) to sell to syndication. When they renewed the show for Season 3, they basically knew they would to give it a Season 4 as well. On top of that, there's the fact that Nikita's ratings stabilized lately, while non-Friday shows like 90210, The Carrie Diaries, Hart of Dixie and Beauty and the Beast are dropping (90210 actually has lower ratings than Nikita now).
ReplyDeleteI just don't see a Nikita cancellation unless there's some kind of unfathomable ratings disaster in the second half of the season (I'm talking 0.2's and 0.1's). Most sites are more optimistic about it than Deadline.
Unless they decide to clean house completely and cancel everything except the 3 'big' shows they've already renewed - which they don't have the resources for, I think - I can't see The CW axing Nikita. It is a Friday show doing the same as their non-Friday bubble shows, and none of those are close to syndication (even Hart of Dixie needs two more full seasons after the current one). It was probably the studio putting its foot down and banking on international syndication which got the show renewed for Season 3 in the first place. If they were going to cut their losses, they would have done it after Season 2, in my opinion. Doing it now would be completely nonsensical, after having already invested in a third season.
ReplyDeleteI dont think NBC has anything to replace SVU, i thinkit will be renewed with no problem
ReplyDeleteThe season highs aren't great, I'm not gonna argue that. But almost everything on the CW is not great. Friday shows always do worse than weekday shows. You take any show on the CW that's not Arrow, Supernatural, or the Vampire Diaries and it's going to be doing the same or worse in Nikita's slot. 90210 is already doing worse. TCD has been pretty close to Nikita numbers since it began, dropping to a .4 in the last ep. HOD and most eps of BatB have been only slightly above Nikita, meaning if they were to get shuffled off to Friday they'd be doing the same, potentially worse. So if the CW cancels Nikita they're going to have to either premiere something on Friday, which rarely works out well, or move a show to Friday that's going to do just as bad if not worse than Nikita and won't be as close to syndication.
ReplyDeleteNikita getting renewed last season while getting consistent .4s only really makes sense if they were doing it to reach syndication numbers. I highly doubt they thought the show was going to suddenly double in ratings. So why would they cancel now when it's closer to syndication and getting the same, sometimes better, ratings? And the network doesn't make money off of syndication - the studio that owns Nikita does. In this case, WarnerBros, which owns part of the CW. Fox aired Fringe the last couple of low rated seasons because the studio basically gave it to them for free. Since WB's relationship to the CW is even more influential, I imagine if WB wants Nikita to reach syndication numbers, it's gonna reach syndication numbers.
I know it's not a confirmation but I wouldn't have made the speculation at all (like they didn't with other shows) until results could be seen in the second half. So I was "surprised".
ReplyDeleteDeadline has Nikita in pretty much the same position as last season.
ReplyDeleteSame here.
ReplyDeleteYeah, and I think being one season closer to syndication - 25% of the way - makes a HUGE difference. Last season, many people (myself included) were pessimistic about the show's renewal chances. They still needed a full two seasons of Nikita to reach syndication, and I think the only non-Friday show that was doing as badly as Nikita was Ringer. This season, it's so close to syndication that it would be ridiculous to cancel it just when they're finally about to recoup their investment. And going by the last couple of weeks, Nikita is actually on par with all of the CW's bubble shows, which aren't on Friday (and doing better than 90210).
ReplyDeleteOf course we still have to see how the shows hold up in the spring. Maybe Nikita will have the worst ratings decline of all, and once again become the lowest-rated show on the network. But the way things are right now, at least, a Nikita renewal seems very logical - a lot more than it did last year.
The Mentalist on danger ? That's absurd, TM is one of the best CBS shows...
ReplyDeleteI could be wrong, but I've could have sweared that, The Mentalist last year, had been renewed for a 5th and a 6th season?
ReplyDeleteBeauty And The Beast deserves second season!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt maybe, but shows are not renewed on quality. They are renewed/cancelled on ratings alone
ReplyDeleteNo, it's not been renewed officially. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with some of these quite a lot:
ReplyDeleteNikita: Very Likely Renewal (It is not even a bubble show IMO)
Beauty and the Beast: Toss Up
The Carrie Diaries: Likely Cancelation, but I can understand the toss up too
SVU: Certain Renewal
True. I think they should put it on Thursdays at 10pm, it will do just fine in there and solve that spot's problem for NBC
ReplyDeleteHopefully BATB gets a second season, its a good show that has a lot of growing up to do :)
ReplyDelete"So why would they cancel now when it's closer to syndication and getting the same, sometimes better, ratings?"
ReplyDeleteFirst, Warner Brothers television studio is the main producer on this show so they do have a financial stake in the syndication. Second, if they don't feel they'll make anything significant from syndication it doesn't make financial sense to take another financial hit to produce another season. They'll only be throwing good money after bad. Third, you're right that The CW could put any show on Friday and it would do similar ratings so why wouldn't they put something newer, cheaper, and with a bigger upside?
As far as Fringe goes, there was no financial benefit to Fox to air Fringe even at a low cost because they still weren't bringing in decent ad dollars for the show and syndication prospects were nil for the producers as evidenced by the fact that they only made a paltry deal to air Fringe on The Science Channel of all places. Keeping Fringe on air was nothing more than a gesture of good will on both sides.
yeah, i know...unfortunately. But if TM ends up now will be a mistake, they deserve more. Thats all...
ReplyDeleteDeadlines pretty accurate.HoD does good in DVr,online,onDemand and is cheap to make and closer to syndication than the freshman shows and is stable in ratings and does the same as BatB without as much promotion and no leadin. Its doing better than GG (except last two episodes and retospective).and EoMD did and is doing better than 90210 & Nikita.
ReplyDeleteParks & Rec better get another season!
ReplyDeleteCommunity!!! Six seasons and a movie!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletenever seen more BS in my life they are completely mental over at deadline. Nikita is a friday show close to syndication plus the 9pm slot on friday is already open for business so why would they even touch Nikita at 8pm.
ReplyDeleteNikita also beats 2 of the CW shows on the weekdays and is on par with their other shows on the weekdays. How the hell is Nikita a toss up over newer shows that has a longer way to reach syndication with the same ratings and NOT airing on fridays. Never seen more stupidity. They are completely out of the loop.
Batb is a toss up for me, I think Nikita and TCDare in better shape since they're not lead-in dependent. Bab would flop to 0.3s won Fridays at 9.
ReplyDeleteBy losing half of it's audience within 3 episodes and the two 0.5s, that's hardly true.
ReplyDeleteBeauty and the Beast needs a second season!! I literally just started watching last week and I have already gotten caught up!! LOVE it!! Here's hoping for season 2!!!!
ReplyDeleteWell, it's not like NBC has got anything better comedy wise. With the Office series finale, 30 Rock already gone, and 1600 Penn not doing so great...
ReplyDeleteParenthood still has a lot of life in it for a series.
ReplyDeleteIt will probably be moved to Thursdays in the Fall if it is renewed.
ReplyDeleteCSI: NY will go by way of CSI: Miami. Vegas was a hard sell despite a stellar ensemble cast.
ReplyDeleteI think The Mentalist will stick around for one more season.
ReplyDeleteYeah, but the Springs decline will affect other shows too. It's definitely a toss up.
ReplyDeleteThen why is The Mentalist in danger and not The Good Wife?
ReplyDeleteJust wondering - since I don't really watch or follow The Good Wife - when was the last time TGW won any awards?
ReplyDeleteI don't watch it either but Wikipedia has the answers.
ReplyDeletehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_awards_and_nominations_received_by_The_Good_Wife
Martha Plimpton won Guest Actress at the Emmys last year.
The show gets nominated in a lot of categories every year for the Emmys and Golden Globes as well as some of the other award shows like SGA.
Like I said its rare for a non-cable drama to get any attention during award seasons so even if if hasn't won a lot its still doing pretty well and a show CBS is probably proud of.
I think it's a good thing also that a few of the "higher-ups" at CW have talked about how much they enjoy the show.
ReplyDeleteWhat exactly does syndication mean? I've heard this a couple times but I have no idea what that means
ReplyDeleteIt means re-runs on another network. A syndication deal nets the studio that produced the show a fortune, often more than the show's original run. While it's possible to sell a show to syndication with less than 88 episodes, it's a lot harder/less profitable.
ReplyDeleteSo once a show gets a full 3rd season like Nikita did, in all likelihood it will also get a full 4th one so it can be syndicated.
Fans of certain shows should be thankful for syndication...
