Scene Of The Week - February 17, 2013 - *POLL*

17 Feb 2013

Week 11! For me, this was really a week of powerful performances and very VERY well-written episodes, so I’m going with my Top 3 scenes this time (the order is accidental).

1. Show: REVENGE
Episode: Union
Date: February 10, 2013
Actors: Emily VanCamp, Barry Sloane
The Scene: Emily and Aiden at the graveyard.

This was one great episode! With many worth mentioning scenes, like Victoria killing (!) Helen or the very emotional wedding, but my favorite happens to be a heartbreaking scene in the middle of the episode with Emily and Aiden at the cemetery. Why? Because I’m a big fan of every scene, where Emily shows what’s truly in her heart and this one is where we can see it very clearly. To be honest, Emily VanCamp shines in the entire episode even more than ever. In this scene, she’s joined by very stoic and also powerful performance of Barry Sloane. I really like the parts with this couple. They just… work. At least if you ask me.
Enough about performances, now more about the dialogue and the meaning of the scene. Emily is usually very tough, almost cold person, but not here. For a moment, she admits to missing her father every single day and the life she could have had, and asks, in a breaking voice, someone she cares about not to leave her. But Aiden has to leave at this point, I feel like I understand that. He needs time to think after discovering that someone he’s been trying to save for almost his entire life is long gone. That’s the kind of thing that needs time to heal. Unfortunately it doesn’t make things easier for our heroine. And this is exactly why I’m so happy about the last scene of the episode, where he really comes back to her (after briefly showing up at the wedding to support her, also a great moment) and points out she’s not really alone and she never will be. Certainly not, with Nolan and Aiden at her side! Now I’m hoping to see more of my favorite trio. Let’s get revenge-y!

2. Show: SUPERNATURAL
Episode: Trial and Error
Date: February 13, 2013
Actors: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles
The Scene: Sam’s speech at the end

Wow, that’s another amazing episode! Very happy about that. But choosing just one scene from this fantastic episode is a really hard thing to do! After a little brainstorm, I’ve decided to go with the last scene of the episode. It’s not only brilliantly performed by Jared Padalecki (!) and Jensen Ackles (who steals a different scene earlier in the episode, look: Honorable Mentions), but it’s exactly what I wanted to hear for a very long time from Sam and Dean. A very long time. And I’m sure I’m not the only one.
Every fan of Supernatural is aware of at least few things. That Dean’s first priority is making sure Sam’s safe, that Sam’s usually the smart one (not the only one, but more presented as such) and that Dean is quite a pessimist. So to see Sam actually reassuring his brother that he’s gonna help him see the light at the end of the tunnel, calling him a genius and the best hunter in the world, also saying he believes in him and asking Dean to believe in him too (with the positive answer to that!) is just heart melting. It’s SO good to see more brotherly love and not angst. It’s what makes me really love the show. The relationship between the brothers is and always will be the heart of the series. And my very favorite thing about it.

NOTE: This scene was also picked by klutzy girl and Robin Smyth as Scene Of the Week!

3. Show: ELEMENTARY
Episode: Details
Date: February 14, 2013
Actors: Jonny Lee Miller, Lucy Liu
The Scene: Sherlock asking Joan to become his companion

This series is definitely growing on me. The progress also occurs with Sherlock and Watson’s friendship. And this scene might just be my favorite in the show so far. Absolutely fantastic performance by the actors, especially Miller! Sherlock admits to Joan that he knew about her new status for a while and makes her an offer to become his partner in work as a detective, not a sober companion anymore. But it’s more than this proposition that makes the scene so great. He actually admits to himself and Joan that he’s better at what he does WITH Watson at his side. As for why, Sherlock’s not quite made this deduction yet. But I’m sure he’s going to, one day. In the scene we can also see the conflict in Joan. She obviously wants to stay but has to let go of the life she has chosen before, not a simple thing to do. In the end, in a different scene, she decides to stay. And I’m hoping to see more exploration of this really interesting partnership. Not romantically though, definitely NOT in this way.

NOTE: This scene was also picked by Robin Smyth as Scene Of the Week!

Honorable mentions:
Supernatural, “Trial and Error”, February 13, 2013 – Dean’s speech about a happy ending for Sam
Person Of Interest, “Booked Solid”, February 14, 2013 – Root’s reappearance
Revenge, “Union”, February 10, 2013 – Victoria killing Helen AND showing her body to Daniel and Conrad

And here’s more of SpoilerTV Team members’ favorite scenes:

1. FROM SHARON SEYMOUR

The Walking Dead, “The Suicide King”, February 10, 2013
Actors: Andrew Lincoln, Steven Yeun, Michael Rooker

Rick losing his mind when he sees Lori

2. FROM JIMMY RYAN

Castle, “Reality Star Struck”, February 11, 2013
Actors: Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic
The Scene: Castle & Kate talk in her room

ABC's Castle turned on a stunner for its first ever Valentine’s Day themed episode. The whole episode was terrific, but it was the closing scene with Castle and Kate in Kate's bedroom, where Kate gave Castle the best Valentine’s Day gift ever - his very own drawer in her room. The rest was left up to the viewers' imaginations, but we all got the general idea of what happened next! I believe that that scene is the best scene this season so far.

NOTE: This scene was also picked by Jamie Coudeville and Robin Smyth as Scene Of the Week!

3. FROM JAMIE COUDEVILLE

Arrow, “The Odyssey”, February 13, 2013
Actors: Emily Bett Rickards, Stephen Amell
The Scene: Felicity finds Oliver in her car

I just loved her reaction, I hope we'll see a lot more of her now that she knows.

The Vampire Diaries, “Down the Rabbit Hole”, February 14, 2013
Actors: Nina Dobrev, Steven R. McQueen
The Scene: Katherine comes back, Jeremy dies

Did not expect to see Katherine there, but love that she's back. Jeremy dying was also not something that I was expecting, even though we still don't know if he's actually dead.

NOTE: This scene was also picked by Ben K as Scene Of the Week!

6. FROM SPARTIGUS15

Grey’s Anatomy, “Hard Bargain”, February 14, 2013
The Scene:

The opening scene with the hard rain & circular cool camera transition just added to the intensity of this scene. It definitely set the tone for the rest of the episode and what an episode!

House of Lies, "Damonschildren.org", February 10, 2013
Actors: Kristen Bell, Donis Leonard Jr.
The Scene:

I really enjoyed Jeannie and Roscoe at the batting cages. It was super cute. Showed Jeannie being protective and "motherly", "sisterly" maybe- I say that only because she and Marty professed there love for each other so I feel they maybe going in the direction of getting them together.

7. FROM ROBIN SMYTH

Elementary, “Details”, February 14, 2013

  1. All the scenes listed in the poll for Supernatural, Person Of Interest, Once Upon A Time, and Elementary. I laughed so hard when Watson hit Holmes in the head with the basketball. Also laughed during Person of Interest when Zoe said, "Haven't seen you since the divorce." lol And Supernatural and Once were heartfelt episodes. :)

Also Arrow. I loved the flashbacks, especially the training scenes. Also loved Felicity's and Diggle's interactions in the episode while they were trying to save Oliver's life.

It was a very good week.

  2. Love the Once Upon a Time and Castle scenes, especially the Castle one. I love how she's opening up to him more and more.

I also loved Amy's reaction to Sheldon making her his emergency contact (even though she found out the hard way that it's more of a burden than a blessing). And Raj's speech about Valentine's Day then going against it and going out with the girl was pretty funny.

The end of CSI: NY was really sweet this week, with Mac and Christine, Danny and Lindsay, and Jo and Ellie each doing their thing for Valentine's Day. Especially Mac and Christine - as others said on CSI: NY articles for Blood Actually, propose to her already, man!

All the Supernatural scenes, but especially Sam's speech. ♥

  4. Castle of course =) A drawer will never be the same for me ... just like apples, cherries, cuffs, always...

  5. The check boxes keep my head from exploding. This was a good week overall. Flecity finds Oliver in her back seat, Dean's first room (and that little beat of Sam's approval), Sam's speech to Dean (man I wish major elements of the brother's relationship happened at the beginning of the seasons), Sherlock asking Joan to become his companion (this was the first episode that I really liked), Anton becomes Tiny the Dwarf, Victoria killing Helen ("I'll go first"), Root's reappearance. Whew!

I'm in a minority with regard to the Vampire Diaries scene. The reappearance of Katherine just annoyed the heck out of me. It kicked me out of the story for several reasons...but by being kicked out of the story I just kept working at the logic of...how the heck did she have all the information she needed to make her way onto the island. It as almost as annoying as the logic pretzel that got Michael killed and kept Klaus alive.

Another favorite scene was at the wedding when Emily have Amanda the ring from her childhood. Loved it. It was such a sweet moment.

  6. Boyd and Ava´s scene on Justified is the one to remember this week. It was good to see those two share a romantic moment.

  7. Because I am a complete romantic at heart, Boyd proposing to Ava in Justified and Ben and Leslie deciding to get married.

  8. Both Supernatural brother speeches were the highlight of my TV week, but I also liked Felicity talking with Diggle in the Arrow Cave.

  9. This was a good week! The Walking Dead is back, POI and The Americans continue to kick ass... I'm still not caught up with Elementary, but I'm getting there. :p

    1. The Americans: ''I feel like it's happening now''. Philip just feels so sympathetic to me. He's developed some real feeling for his ''fake'' wife, but she doesn't know how to love him back. Until that touching scene at the end. Great acting, and just very great character writing.

Honorable mention goes to ''Could you get out of my blind spot?''... Just Philip being badass in his unique, kind of awkward way.

    2. Person Of Interest: Reese vs Hersh. Great fight scene. It was good to see Reese fighting someone with pretty much equal skills for a change. Of course he won the fight in the end, but he actually let the hitman live, and I thought that was a pretty sweet character moment for him.

Honorable mention goes to Root's appearance at the end. It looks like we're headed for another ''attack from all sides'' finale. Can't wait!

    3. The Walking Dead: Rick's group rescues Daryl. The episode might not have been as good as it should have been, but that first scene was as exciting as the cliffhanger. They did a good job conveying the chaos of that moment. The smoke bomb provided us with some pretty cool/haunting shots of The Governor too!

    4. Once Upon A Time - Anton the Dwarf. The episode was a bit strange at times, especially with the character motivations, but the fact that it was a Jorge Garcia-centric was a nice treat. I'm glad that he seems to be a recurring character now. Anyway... The fact that the Giant turned into a Dwarf was a cute and pretty clever little twist. The axe never lies!

No mentions for The Following this week, sorry. Overall it was better than last week's, but there weren't many memorable moments.

  10. These always make realize how little television I watch, even though I think I watch a lot. But I agree about Elementary's scene with Sherlock asking Joan to be his companion. It blew me away and was a turning point for the show.

I keep thinking of the scene in this week's Bones when Hodgens discovers the bullet was made of frozen blood, just because of the thought of it. If that was a real thing, you could spread diseases or something that way. Crazy.

  11. The Caskett scene (from Castle). Always.

    ReplyDelete
  12. That Elementary scene is what came to mind immediately. I wondered how Joan was going to be able to stay there with Sherlock, and this was a perfect solution. Somewhat similar to the original Watson-Holmes pairing, Sherlock just worked better with Watson around. A sweet moment.

Parks and Rec. I about cried at Ben's suggestion. Now I can't wait until Thursday to see the wedding.

I'm not caught up with POI. Root comes back? Oy vey.

OUaT, finding out that Jorge is going to be a regular, as a dwarf. This show seems to suit him. Not like that Alcatraz.

The Walking Dead, Glenn showing his anger. We've never seen that side of Glenn.

  18. For me, definitively it's Elementary this week ! The "proposal" scene was the greatest and Jonny Lee Miller was amazing : the way he delivers his lines, his facial expressions, the way he controls his voice amaze me in every episode.

  19. I went with Supernatural and would have loved to vote for all the choices, excellent ep, in fact best one this season for me. First part of season Sam & Amelia were not worth the time it took to watch, Sam not looking for Dean...NO WAY THAT WOULD HAPPEN unless something is wrong with Sam.

Loved the Castle gift of his own drawer, these two are my favorite couple on TV.

Elementary was perfect and that scene was so touching, asking Watson to stay as partner.

Castle was by far the best for me this week but really loved the scenes from Nashville and Revenge too.

  21. Castle, hands down! That last scene was romantic perfection.
