-Ratings Breakdown:
ABC returned to the overnight winner’s circle on this third Monday in February care of its combination of The Bachelor (6.6 rating/10 share from 8-10 p.m.), which won three of the four half-hours (excluding 9 p.m.) and reliable Castle (#1: 6.6/12 at 10 p.m.). Comparably, The Bachelor built year-to-year by eight percent (versus a 6.1/ 9 on 2/20/12). And older-skewing Castle held 96 percent of the 9:30 p.m. portion of The Bachelor (6.9/10), with a performance on par from the year ago evening.
The Bachelor, no doubt, is solid filler in between seasons of Dancing With the Stars.
Next was CBS, which is poised for adult 18-49 victory for the evening with its line-up of How I Met Your Mother (#2: 6.1/ 9), recent returnee Rules of Engagement (#3: 5.3/ 8), 2 Broke Girls (#1: 6.9/10), Mike & Molly (#23: 6.7/10) and Hawaii Five-O (#2: 6.2/10). Year-to-year, however, the Eye net was down by 14 percent.
In more promising news on Fox, week five of Kevin Bacon drama The Following was on the map with a third-place 5.4/ 8 at 9 p.m., which held 96 percent of the 8:30 p.m. portion of lead-in Bones (5.6/ 8) and increased from year-ago occupant Alcatraz (4.0/ 6 on 2/20/12) by 35 percent. The Following, in addition, remained a notable improvement over recent time period occupant The Mob Doctor.
NBC, of course, dipped considerably from the year-ago evening (which featured two-hours of The Voice). Current 8-10 p.m. occupant The Biggest Loser scored a fourth-place 3.9/ 6 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m., which trailed aforementioned The Bachelor on ABC by 42 percent. One year earlier, red-hot The Voice averaged a 9.2/14. Recent Peacock net drama entry Deception, meanwhile, was off the charts with a distant third-place 2.3/ 4 at 10 p.m.. And that, comparably, was 50 percent below year-ago occupant Smash (which is unlikely to generate much interest itself out of fading The New Normal tonight).
The CW capped off the evening with its lackluster pairing of The Carrie Diaries (#5: 1.0/ 2 at 8 p.m.), which only proves that prequels face an uphill battle, and needs-to-be canceled 90210 (#5: 0.6/ 1 at 9 p.m.). How much lower can 90210 go?
In late night, Jay Leno on NBC won the 11:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m. daypart with a 2.8/ 7 in the overnights (3.3/ 8 to 2.2/ 6 by half-hour: - 3 percent from the year-ago evening). Next was David Letterman on CBS at a 2.6/ 7 (3.0/ 7 to 2.1/ 6: - 7 percent), followed by relocated Jimmy Kimmel Live on ABC at a 2.0/ 6 (2.4/ 6 to 1.5/ 4: down in the 11:30 p.m. half-hour by 23 percent from older-skewing year-ago occupant Nightline). Relocated Nightline, meanwhile, averaged a diluted 1.2/ 4 in the 12:30 a.m. half-hour.
Jimmy Fallon on NBC won the 12:30-1:30 a.m. daypart with a 1.3/ 4 (1.5/ 5 to 1.1/ 4: -13), followed by Craig Ferguson on CBS at a 1.1/ 4 (1.2/ 4 to 1.0/ 4: -21 percent). And Carson Daly on NBC capped off the evening with a typical 0.8/ 3 at 1:30 a.m. How is that, Howard Stern?

not bad for the following. its holding pretty steady. CW shows are laughable.. time to cancel both of those shows that are on mondays. Neither one of them can hold an audience. Does anyone know when Switched at Birth and Bunheads ratings will be out?
ReplyDeleteNot bad HIMYM, this was a really funny episode despite my disliking of some things it was good.
ReplyDeleteCable shows probably won't be available for another 5yrs although it was a holiday in USA yesterday to it maybe tomorrow. They will be posted in the ratings database when they are available here http://www.stvplus.com
ReplyDeleteHoly S**T!!! Awesome Castle last night... This show is pretty damm impresive when it comes to making drama... Didn't know Fillion could act like that...
ReplyDeleteThey usually come out in the afternoon/night.
ReplyDeleteYikes for both CW shows, it sounds like both got new lows based on HH numbers.
Totally agree with you! What an amazing episode. One of the best ever. And holy s**tballs Nathan Fillion! Give that guy an Emmy!
ReplyDeleteBones went down. :(
ReplyDeleteI was so afraid The Following would keep free falling, but it appears to be stable this week (last week was 5.3/8). Hopefully it'll not end up like Touch!
ReplyDeleteAt least it stayed about a 2.
ReplyDelete90210 could potentially get a 0.1 soon..
ReplyDeleteIt's a complete disaster.
ReplyDeleteWith such an amazing episode last night, it would be great if Castle could reach a 2.0 or above..I think it will be around 1.8/1.9, but with more viewers than H50...
ReplyDeleteTrue, but hopefully it adjusted up.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it will.
ReplyDeleteThey really should announce this season as its' last.
ReplyDelete90210 and Carrie wont be back next season if the CW have any sence at all
ReplyDeleteYes they should!
ReplyDeleteBoth of them should be canceled, those are awful numbers.
ReplyDeleteThere's no reason to keep it on another season.
ReplyDelete2,2 amazing!!
ReplyDeleteNo definitely not. They should not repeat the mistake they made last year by granting GG a farewell season, if they do that for 90210 it would even be a bigger mistake.
ReplyDelete90210 is doing even worse. There's no good reason why they should renew a show that got a 0.2. That's embarassing.
ReplyDeleteYeah! I´m so glad I was wrong!
ReplyDeleteIs it me or the viewers not that high last night overall?
ReplyDeleteEmbarassing is the right word. It could get worse though, a 0.1 rating =P
ReplyDeletegood ratings for Castle.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, i don't miss DWTS. The Bachelor has a younger audience and Castle unfortunately needs these young viewers to survive.
Yeah Castle!
ReplyDeleteGreat, The following up!
ReplyDeleteHasta luego 90210.
If Beauty and the Beast could manage to hit 0,7 at the end of the season, CW could renew it and ship it off to Friday.
ReplyDeleteI think, CW could do this next year:
Monday:
New Show (Company Town? Just a regular drama, audience flow with HOD)
Hart of Dixie
So Castle won the night! Too Cool!
ReplyDeleteRemember how Nikita got those .2's and .3's....Or all are we all just jumping on the kill 90210 bandwagon and removing that from memory.?
ReplyDeleteUh, excwpet that batb isnt far from cari's low, it's at a 0.5 with a pretty good lead in, so comparably it is in a worse sitiation. And it could reach 0.4a come spring when rating a decrease
ReplyDeleteIf it keeps sinking, it could hit a 0.1.
ReplyDeleteYay for Castle and the other shows I watch!
ReplyDeleteThey could both be canceled
ReplyDeletePlenty of Nikita haters have already done that.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if Nikita ever dipped below a million viewers, but 90210 got 500,000 viewers. That's worse than horrible!
ReplyDeleteWell, Nikita never sunk to 500k viewers, GG's series low was 600k viewers.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't really matter since it's already been renewed.
ReplyDeletefirst of all the total viewers doesn't matter and both 90210 and Nikita should be embarrassed at those ratings.
ReplyDeleteit did sink below a million viewers several times not that it matters
ReplyDeleteIt's different, though, because Nikita hadn't hit syndication yet, so there was a possibility that The CW would put up with its brutally low numbers to eventually get to the big bucks. (Don't get me wrong, if its numbers had stayed at 0.3 and 0.2 I wouldn't have bet on a renewal, but it wasn't beyond the realm of possibility.) 90210 has already reached syndication, even extended, so I don't see a potential gain for The CW if it keeps the show around despite the ratings.
ReplyDeleteFor the record, I know The CW relies heavily on additional factors like DVD sales, international sales and online performance (more so than other networks given its ratings). As such, it's always tough to predict their renewals and I wouldn't be shocked if 90210 gets that final season. I just think it would be wiser to announce this as the final season and order an additional 2 episodes to wrap things up satisfyingly for the fans, especially since The CW in general is becoming more of a "genre" network and moving away from standard romance dramas. But that's just my opinion, and the Nielsen ratings obviously don't tell the whole story, so who knows.
90210 No !!
ReplyDeleteBones is hands down the BEST show on TV. I would climb mountains and cross rivers to make it to the TV on time for this show!!
ReplyDeleteI feel bad for 90210 fans because I remember all-too-well the endless venom spewed at Nikita when it got 0.3's and once 0.2. As bad as these numbers are, it always sucks to have your show laughed at and mocked like that (and people who do so are just immature and spiteful). Especially since we all know how the TV business works - it's often not the quality of the show that affects numbers but other factors.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I do feel they should announce this as 90210's final season, but I hope the fans get a proper ending - possibly with an order for an extra couple of episodes to wrap things up.
The Following is up from last week, right? It looks like it's stabilizing, which is great. It needs to before The Voice starts up again in a month.
ReplyDeleteLook at Mike and Molly go - wow. So proud!
ReplyDeleteid like to know where people get These ratings from i mean i watch 90210 and the Carrie diaries EVERY WEEK i watch no other shows on cw and i pay for there dammed network i swear if they cancel 90210 ill delete them
