-Ratings Breakdown:
It was an atypical evening, of course, care of President Obama’s State of the Union Address from approximately 9-10:30 p.m. And all results are approximate due to the live nature of the speech.
CBS opened the evening first in the 8 p.m. hour courtesy of an encore of NCIS: Los Angeles at a 5.7 rating/9 share in the overnights. For casting news on the proposed spin-off from NCIS: Los Angeles, click on the following: http://tinyurl.com/bbqds5t.
Second overall in the 8 p.m. hour were back-to-back repeats of Betty White’s Off Their Rockers on NBC (avg. 3.5/ 6), followed by episode four of cooking competition The Taste on ABC (3.4/ 5), and encores of sitcoms Raising Hope (1.8/ 3) and New Girl (1.8/ 3) on Fox. Comparably, The Taste dipped by 13 percent from one week earlier (3.9/ 6 on Feb. 5).
The CW populated the evening with 2010 theatrical When In Rome, with Kristen Bell and John Duhamel, which scored a last-place 1.3/ 2 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m. Comparably, that was a rise of 18 percent from the week-ago combination of dramas Hart of Dixie and the series-finale of Emily Owens, M.D.
Estimated results for the State of the Union Address by half-hour appear as follows:
9:00 p.m.
CBS: 4.6/ 7, NBC: 4.3/ 7, ABC: 3.9/ 6, Fox: 1.5/ 2
9:30 p.m.
CBS: 4.7/ 7, NBC: 4.4/ 7, ABC: 4.1/ 6, Fox: 1.7/ 3
10:00 p.m. (Response and Analysis)
CBS: 4.5/ 7, NBC: 4.3/ 7, ABC: 4.1/ 6, Fox: 2.1/ 3
NBC offered more coverage of the State of the Union Address at 10:30 p.m., which scored a 3.1/ 5 in the overnights. CBS aired a repeat of Mike & Molly (3.1/ 5) and ABC an encore of Modern Family (2.7/ 4).
In late night, Jay Leno on NBC led the 11:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m. daypart with a 2.7/ 7 in the overnights (3.2/ 8 to 2.1/ 6 by half-hour: equal to the year-ago evening). Next was David Letterman on CBS (2.4/ 6 overall – 2.6/ 6 to 2.1/ 6: -11 percent), followed by relocated Jimmy Kimmel on ABC (1.8/ 5 overall: 2.2/ 5 to 1.4/ 4). Older-skewing Nightline one year earlier was notably stronger in the overnights with a 3.0/ 7. But the demo skew for Kimmel, of course, is younger.
Moving to 12:30-1:30 a.m., Jimmy Fallon on NBC and Craig Ferguson on CBS were tied ay a 1.2/ 5 in the overnights (each 1.4/ 5 to 1.0/ 4). Both were down from the year-ago evening: Fallon by 25 percent and Ferguson by 14 percent. Nightline on ABC scored a 1.3/ 4 in the 12:30 a.m. half-hour, which remains a considerable loss from airing at 11:30 p.m. last year. In late night, the later you air the smaller the audience.
At 1:30 a.m., Carson Daly on NBC scored a 0.7/ 3, which was 22 percent below the year-ago evening.
