Pretty good episode, but I'd say it was the weakest of Season 3 so far.
Nice to finally see Andrea reunite with everyone, and yet she still pulls one stupid decision in the episode by not killing the Governor at the end. Also don't like Tyreese & Co. willing to take on Rick and the others. Next week looks like a great self-contained story, much like Rick/Shane's outing to let Randall god last season.
Decent ep. Not the strongest, but really nice to see the realistic reunion with Andrea and the gang. I realize that Andrea is nothing like the badass that her comic book character is, but I just wish she wasn't so seemingly weak minded for falling under the Gov's spell even after knowing that he's a big liar... Of course she's supposed to be caught between a rock and hard place, but it's really not coming across that way. Great scenes between Merle and Herschel, and Darryl and Carol as well. Not digging on the set up for Tyreese and company to go vs the Prison gang, but will just have to wait and see. Looks like in next week's ep Rick might be going back for Lennie James's character who he met in the pilot ep, (I'm just guessing), so it'll be cool to see that will work out....
Here's what I think - Tyrese is going to flip when the Gov does something to his sister. Because the Gov was looking at her like he was looking at Andrea when she first arrived. I also think that might be what flips Andrea into realizing what a psycho he is. The Gov going after another woman might take some of the shine off of him.
Okay episode. A nice set-up for the continuing story, now that Andrea knows where her buddies are, Andrea has met Tyreese and Tyreese has met the Governor, Merle has shown his good side, Rick has learned from both Hershel and Carl that his leadership has been lacking lately, and Carol has asked Andrea to murder the Governor. I really liked Michonne's conversation with Andrea, where she got across her disappointment that Andrea could not see the Governor's true, evil, nature. Haven't read the comics, but I'm predicting the prison gang takes over Woodbury and stays there a while. Then Milton will become one of them. I'd like that.
Really not liking the direction of the show. It was so wrong to kill Lori and to force Tyrese out of the prison, because Tyrese is going to help the governor now. BTW Kirkman was bragging that next week is supposed to be one of the best episodes of the series ever. More Michone time is always nice, but I hardly see how delusional Rick is going to come out of it. There had better a good twist with Tyrese & his group in Woodbury, otherwise this one is going to go off the rails. Not paying for a season pass on iTunes if the show is like this.
I know people will complain but I really dig these character centric episodes in the midst of the very strong action centric. They are very much needed. I loved finally seeing Andrea's encounter with the group. It was very realistic and Laurie portrayed it very well. Loved the final scene with Rick giving her a gun and wishing her good luck, showing that despite the coldness showed, he still cares for her. Then I loved her scenes with Carol as well. I really felt it was very realistically portrayed. Merle being around bugs the hell out of me, but it is supposed to be that way and they are acknowledging it, so I will let it go, but I don't believe he will last the season. I also fear that Andrea might be dying soon unfortunately. She is frustrating to watch but IMO that is because she behaves a lot like a real person would, people make stupid decisions in their lives. Rick is my favorite character on the show by far, true, and he is a hero and a complex broken one, and that is amazing to watch. But there is something about Andrea keep making stupid decisions that is just very compelling and real to me. Oh and this season I fell in love with Carol, how awesome was it for her to ask Andrea to kill the governor after screwing him just like that? You go girl!
This episode was definitely a set up for the coming war between the Governor and Rick's group. I really think that Andrea has fallen in love with the Gov. and believes they will all live happily ever after in Woodbury. Even after learning what happened at the prison, she still thinks she can control him which is a joke. I also think he was aware of her standing over him with the knife too and was half expecting him to jump up and grab her!
Merle seems to be on the road to redeem himself with the group and that could spell trouble for him in the end. I hope he doesn't end up dying but now that Darryl isn't afraid of him anymore, their relationship has changed. I thought it was interesting how tptb threw in the bible verse from Merle to show us there is more to him than what we all thought.
I see a huge twist coming with Tyresse and his group joining up with the Gov. I'm betting the father and son don't last too much longer but I see at least Tyresse turning on the Gov. at the last minute to help the prison group. Tyresse is a smart guy!
Poor Milton. I'm thinking that all his devotion to the Gov. will get him killed in the end. I think he believes that the Gov. will protect him no matter what, but unfortunately the Gov. only takes care of himself.
I love the singing! It adds so much to the show in those moments when the group has come together.
I see Rick reaching out more to the others in the group for help just like we saw at the end with Darryl and Hershel. I really liked that scene between Carl and his dad. I'm thinking that Carl may be more in control and accepting of what it takes to live in the new world. He's already become quite the little hero.
lori was going to die, maybe this was a little earlier than in the comics, but she was never leaving the prison. This way they can combine the storylines in the comic book (one with the governor and the one after that, which saw Rick talking to telephones to dead Lori) into one and keep the show moving at a faster pace. Next up, Alexandria!
Loved it, but noticed a boo boo. The Governor takes the patch off his left eye in the beginning. Later, the patch is on his right eye and his left eye is perfect.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteNice catch as I forgot that the Gov was visually undressing her... it makes sense for a psycho like him....
