Mobile Site Updated

5 Feb 2013

Hey all,

Just thought I'd let you know of some changes we've been making to the Mobile Version of the site.

Highlights
- Improved Load Times
- Better Navigation
- Improved Video Support
- Improved UI and Layout
- Quick access to Show Filters

We hope you find these updates useful and if you have any comments/suggestions/bugs please don't hesitate in contacting us either in the comments, or via the Feedback link on main desktop site or by emailing us.

Accessing the Mobile Version
The mobile version should load automatically whenever you access the site on your Mobile phone/Tablet.

If the mobile site does not load automatically on your phone, simply use the mobile address m.spoilertv.com

When it loads you should see a screen similar to this.

Navigation
When you first load up the mobile version you will see the Navigation Menu along the top of the screen.

This menu, depending on you phone and phone browser should remain fixed in placed. On older phones this menu will scroll off the screen as you scroll down the screen.

Home - This takes you back to the homepage
Help - Will take you to this page
Contact - Sends us an email
Accounts - Provides a list of all the Show Specific Twitter/Facebook and RSS Feeds
Submit - This allows you to submit any scoop that you find

Below the top navigation bar you will see the "Select your Show" dropdown menu.

Pressing this will allow you to display just the posts for a particular show or label. eg Selecting Castle will display just the posts tagged with Castle. or Select Polls will display all the posts tagged with Polls.

At the bottom of the main page you will see 2 buttons that allow you to goto the next page of articles.

Viewing Articles
To view an article simply press on the Article title. This will load the contents of the article onto the screen.

Articles should work exactly like they do on the non-mobile version. Polls and Video should work on most modern phones and tablets

Commenting
Just like on the main desktop site, the mobile version allows you to both read and write comments on articles.

Misc. Features

Popular Posts
At the bottom of each page there is a section called "Popular Posts". This will display the most popular posts on the site for the past 7 Days. Just click on the article to load it onto your screen.

Stay Updated
At the very bottom of the screen, we've provided some quick links to our main social media accounts, so that you can follow/like us on those mediums.

We hope you find these updates useful and if you have any comments/suggestions/bugs please don't hesitate in contacting us either in the comments, or via the Feedback link on main desktop site or by emailing us.

  3. It works very well, although I was a bit inconvenienced by the loss of the 'view desktop version' as I am on an iPad and I get served the mobile version too. Am having to use other browsers instead now, which is a pity. But for on my mobile it's great - good work!

  4. Thanks for the feedback.

If you want to force the Full Desktop version just change the m=1 to m=0

    eg
    http://www.spoilertv.com?m=0

Let me know how you get on

  5. Cheers, I've trid that, but sadly quite a lot of the menus and navigation take me back out of it so i'd have to keep putting it into the URL if you see what I mean? To be honest it's more a weakness of the iPad Safari because just about every other browser has a setting to 'force desktop version' and Safari doesn't! Pain in the buttsickle.

  6. Ah I see. Yes I can see that now. I'll have a think but I'm not sure there is much we can do our end I'm afraid.

  7. You could use a cookie to keep the settings once someone clicks 'full desktop version'. I'd certainly worship you for it, but with only a limited amount of folks affected I'd understand if you decided it want a priority! :P Thanks for asking/investigating :)

  8. Unfortunately a Cookie won't work in this situation as we can't control the generation of links etc. So the links will still be without the m=0 setting. The problem is that Google are automatically detecting that the ipad is a mobile device and switching it. If you have the Chrome browser on the ipad it should work but it seems the safari/ios browser can't keep the redirection turned off. I'll email google to see if they have any suggestions

  9. It's possible using php i thought, even with the urls, but depending on how you're creating pages right now it might be a bit of work, I realise. Yes it's a right bugger that basically safari is the best IPad browser (I reckon) and the only one that won't force!! I've tried chrome and it forces fine but it has bigger problems, such as a missing bookmarks bar and on a more shallow level i don't like the ominous black at the top. :P

Contact Apple and tell the, to sort Safari out eh? :P

  10. :)

Yep, Google servers are not php. They use their own XML templating system which we only have limited control over unfortunately. If I hear anything from Google I'll update this post.

  12. Mobile applications and using the mobile sites is now become the trending part in our latest technology. It's because many of us were using the mobile applications just for the sake of having some good return for business.
