Justified - Money Trap - Postmortem with Graham Yost (SPOILERS)

20 Feb 2013

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: What of the story is from Elmore’s novel?
GRAHAM YOST: Jackie Nevada was a character in that book.

We’ve talked before about Raylan’s weakness for pretty women, with Lindsey. Jackie gave him a nice chance to address that.
That’s a chunk from the book that Tim [Olyphant] wanted to try to get in last year, and we couldn’t fit it in. So it’s been a target for quite some time.

  1. Shelley Hennig had better material (and turned in a better performance as a result) in this one episode of Justified than she had in all 22 episodes of The Secret Circle.

  2. Never seen The Secret Circle but she was great as Jackie Nevada fitting the character to a 't'.

  3. Agreed. I hope she comes back.

  4. Me too. Yost said it depended on fan reaction. So where do we go to make some noise?

  5. Producers usually have a good feel for how a character works out but you can always hit up the usual places - the official Facebook page or drop the producers and/or writers a line on Twitter.

  6. "Walton loved the scene — he loved Boyd being in the jam — but it was just so, so
hard for him to just sit there and take that from those guys. It just
drove Walton crazy. He just wanted to pull and kill them all. It was a
difficult scene. The other actors were thinking, “Did we say something
to upset him?” And it’s like, “No. Walton’s just identifying with Boyd.” "

Walton Goggins is such an awesome character actor. I've read other interviews that state he gets into his roles quite intensely.

I love reading these postmortems with Yost. It's amazing how much thought and discussion goes into these episodes at all stages of the production; both with the actors getting a lot of input and later in post-production FX offering their suggestions and so on.

  7. It is incredible the amount of effort goes into the episodes. I'm glad you enjoy reading them.
