Thanks to Darthlocke for the heads up.

Actor Michael Ealy has landed the pivotal role in the network’s untitled pilot from Fringe‘s J.H. Wyman.

The action-drama is set in not-too-distant future Los Angeles where cops are paired with android partners. Ealy plays Dorian, a mechanical officer who understands humanity more than his human partner (not yet cast). The Gersh-repped Ealy has had arcs on CBS’ The Good Wife, Showtime’s Californication and ABC’s Flashforward.

J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk are executive producers on the project along with Wyman, who wrote the script. Fringe veteran Brad Anderson will direct the pilot.

  2. Seriable has a little more information including that Dorian's Partners name is John Kennex. (which clearly is meant to sound like "John connects")

Speculation: Dorian is an anagram for android minus a second "d". (But maybe his last name or initial is "D"?) -The name immediately made me think of Oscar Wilde's "The Picture of Dorian Gray" (and I could see some similar themes being used) and then there is the Dorian Mode Progression (music scale).

Note it's unclear what the title currently is. I received twitter info that sais "Inhuman", but Seriable says, "Human"...

  3. Nice one with the anagram! I bet you're right. I've read different titles too. I think I prefer "Human" if it's supposed to be about the connection between humanity and science.

  4. Thanks!m:)

I almost like "Inhuman" better because it has a way of saying both human and not human, and 'of human' (in human) all at the same time! (It provades an immediate awareness to the contrast) It would be particularly nice also if there are allusions to The Picture of Dorian Gray, because conceptually it plays with similar ideas, as it focuses on the aestheticism art movement, which is a philosophical belief that "art" should only embody something pleasurable, as opposed to moral or sociopolitical messages (anti thought provoking) and is furthered with the idea that life should imitate this definition of art. (promoting vanity and libertine), as opposed to art imitating life...One could argue that an Android who thinks he knows best about allegedly what he is not, is similar as a human creating a beautiful image of what human "should be" (android) and having that thing dictate "truth", is equally as flawed as the idea of aestheticism, as humans definition or art or beauty shouldn't be any single idea or ideal....

But obviously the title won't matter that much if the show is good! Can't wait to see more cast members (and they start shooting sometime in March, so we might get some more info then too!)

  5. Definitely! If it's good, I wouldn't care about the title at all hehe. It's not I hate ''Inhuman'' as a title. I just think ''Human'' sounds a bit more intriguing for some reason. :p

All I know about this actor is that he's been on two shows that were cancelled (and I don't remember him AT ALL from Flashforward!) but I just hope that doesn't say much about his acting abilities. Still waiting for them to cast someone like Terry O'Quinn... All the other LOST cast members are busy at the moment.

  6. Kind of makes me think of the "Alien Nation" series meets "I Robot"... but I'll give it a look if it makes it to series

  7. Ya!!!!!!!!I keep thinking after seeing Dorian cast that it would be fantastic if Terry O'Quinn would be John Kennex (for the obvious Lost juxtapositions, but also the contrast that Observers were albino and "bald" in Fringe, and because besides playing John Locke/The Man in Black, he played John White on Hawaii Five-O (which is Kurtzman's and Orci's show).

I originally wanted Josh Holloway to be apart of this show, but the show he landed on also sounds interesting! I'm hopeful for Jasika Nicole too. (and I think Sinbad was canceled so maybe there's hope for Naveen Andrews or Orla Brady to appear or get cast later) -But at any rate I hope we at least get one familiar Bad Robot alumni in the regular cast. ::fingers crossed!::

I remember him from Flash Forward and The Good Wife, but certainly he's not an actor I know well, which is probably a good thing for this role!

  8. *nods* and I'll add a little AI in that mix...

  9. He's great and this pilot sounds somewhat promising, so colour me excited!
