Thanks to GreenWidow for the heads up.

George R.R. Martin, on whose fantasy book series HBO’s hit drama Game Of Thrones is based, has signed a two-year overall deal with the pay cable network. Under the pact, Martin will continue as co-executive producer on Game Of Thrones, whose Season 3 premieres on March 31. Additionally, he will develop and produce new series projects for the network.

  1. He does not have time for this. He needs to work on Winds of Winter.

  2. Agreed. I don't want to wait another half a decade.

  3. This guy will have to live to the age of 200 before he finishes the Game of Thrones books.

So wait, does this mean they are "expanding" on GOT? -I started reading The Hedge Knight and Sworn Storm instead of venturing onto A Clash of Kings after A Game of Thrones. Would love to see the Dunk and the Egg stuff, let alone if Martin has other expanded universe in mind!

  6. I've heard of mulitasking but to write 'other' projects while still writing 'GOT' is well,a very heavy load to say the least...i don't know how he is going to be able to do it all?

  7. A lot of fans have been hopinh for a Dunk and Egg mini-series or a Robert's Rebellion mini-series... There is a ton of historical material to use as Game of Thrones prequel mini-series as well.

It could mean any of his other series though. As well as writing a number of other book series he edits Wild Cards, a sort of superhero series...

It will be interesting to see what pans out....

  8. Yeah he is a busy guy....
He edits a number of anthologies as well as a book series, not to mention writing non-Thrones related books. Add in promotional tours and Comic-Con or SciFi related conventions and he is one of the busier men on the planet I bet!

Part of the reason it has taken 5 or more years for the last ASOIAF books.... Sadly.

  9. Awesome news for GoT and TV as a whole. Having said that, I hope it doesn't take too much tome for having to finish off ASoI&F

  11. He actully tried to be a TV-writer before giving up and start to write A gme of thrones...so it might be a new original series!

  12. Didn't know that, thanks! I'll be anxious to see what this will end up meaning, but it seems like he's a guy full of ideas and would surely be interested to see what other kinds of genres he might be interested in creating.
