Michelle Monaghan has lined up her next mission.

The Mission: Impossible stunner has joined the cast of True Detective, HBO’s upcoming eight-episode drama series starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.

Billed as an elevated narrative with multiple perspectives and time frames, the show centers on two detectives, Rust Cohle (McConaughey) and Martin Hart (Harrelson), whose lives collide during a 17 year hunt for a serial killer in Louisiana.

Monaghan will play Maggie Hart, Martin’s wife who makes a hard decision that has long-reaching and devastating consequences.

  1. Great news ! Harrelson + McConaughey and now Michelle Monaghan, this cast is definitely great !

I love her from... many movies — she usually makes great choices (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Gone Baby Gone, Source Code, etc). Hopefully we won't wait too long to see this True Detective. I was expecting it to arrive this April paired with GoT, but it doesn't seem like it's gonna happen... the only window I can think of is... January 2014, that's a long wait.

  2. This sounds like a mystery version of American Horror Story, tbh, but I'm in. Sounds interesting.

  4. Well, it could also be the fall. Since Treme is just 5 episodes. True Blood is what 10 or something.

  5. True, I didn't think of that. True Detective is 8-episode long, Tremé is 5-episode long, that's 13 weeks of programming, while Boardwalk Empire's fourth season (12 episodes) is their lead-in. There would only be one week with either Tremé or True Detective alone, but it'd work, yeah.

  6. Than again because of viewers of Treme is small, HBO might air it on a special days outside of sundays maybe.
