What I’ve come to realize watching Suits is
that the characters are very lonely. Even the almighty Harvey Specter has to go
home alone most of the time. I think we all know lawyers have the born gift of
bending the law so that it accommodates the needs of their clients. And I do
understand that it takes a lot of detachment from the situations and the people
involved in them not to get caught in the emotional turmoil and end up losing
one’s mind. I don’t have it in me. Does Mike, though?
When we last saw him, Mike Ross was left dealing
with his grandmother’s death which clearly destroyed all the good things he had
built since he started to work for Harvey. They say bad things happen for a
reason and the only reason I see here is to prove that Mike’s self esteem was
just as fragile as his late grandmother. Trying to prove he’s too cool for
school, Mike started smoking pot again and left his imminent romance with
Rachel fade away and, instead, he went for a fling with his married old friend
Tess.
The episode starts with an emotionally weak
Mike trying to make sense out of a hit and run and he fails to realize that
this whole thing is too close to home for him, which – thus the title of this
episode – makes him walk the fine line of being part of the hypocrite world we
live in. It even gets to the point of Mike facing someone that he believes
changed his life forever, but contemplating in this person what might be in his
own future. How can you deal with that?
Louis Litt lives now the life of a senior
partner and all its perks. If you have a blast watching Louis’ scenes, brace
yourselves when he finds his own version of Christian Grey!
Meanwhile, Harvey and Donna find their way back
to their dynamic duo routine, which gives us, the viewers, a great sense that
not all is lost and that everything will be okay again if we just hang on a
little longer. Harvey might even get some action himself.
In the end, it all comes down to putting
themselves together and start over, but not before going home alone - and face their own demons - one more
time.
Suits comes back on January, 17th. Stay tuned.
