-Ratings Breakdown:
It was a clean Tuesday overnight sweep for CBS with its combination of NCIS (12.9 rating/20 share), spin-off NCIS: Los Angeles (11.0/17) and freshman Vegas (7.0/12), which was down by just five percent from year-ago 10 p.m. occupant Unforgettable. Demographically, however, Vegas trails more significantly. As a reminder, season two of Unforgettable will air on CBS this summer.
In season-premiere news, two episodes of hidden camera Betty White’s Off Their Rockers on NBC finished third at 8 p.m. with a 4.0/ 6 in the overnights, and second at 8:30 p.m. with a 4.3/ 7. Both half-hours were on par with the first hour of a two-hour edition of The Biggest Loser on the year-ago evening. But minus the lead-in support of The Voice (yes…lead-in still matter), freshman sitcom Go On slipped to a 3.2/ 5 at 9 p.m. (down 26 percent from the 8:30 p.m. edition of Betty White’s Off Their Rockers), followed by also freshman The New Normal at a 2.5/ 4 at 9:30 p.m. (#2). Compared to the most recent original episodes of the two (out of The Voice) on December 5, Go On slipped by 27 percent (4.4/ 7 to 3.2/ 5) and The New Normal by 24 percent (3.3/ 5 to 2.5/ 4). Both Go On and The New Normal continue to be cannibalized by competing comedies on ABC and Fox.
At 10 p.m., Parenthood on NBC finished second with a 3.7/ 7, which was a hefty 48 percent above The New Normal.
Over at ABC, encore telecasts of Modern Family (#2: 4.3/ 7) and The Middle (#3: 3.3/ 5) filled the Tuesday 8 p.m. hour while Dancing With the Stars is taking a break. Original episodes of struggling comedies Happy Endings (#4: 2.7/ 4) and Don’t Trust the B____ in Apartment 23 (#3, 2.4/ 4) followed from 9-10 p.m. Private Practice, which concludes on January 22, closed the night for ABC with a last-place 3.2/ 6 at 10 p.m.
Elsewhere, Fox’s original comedy block -- Raising Hope (#4: 2.6/ 4), Ben and Kate (#4: 1.8/ 3), New Girl (#3: 3.1/ 5) and The Mindy Project (#4: 2.3/ 4) continues to lack. And a repeat of Hart of Dixie on The CW (#5: 0.7/ 1) led into a 0.9/ 1 in the overnights (#5) for canceled Emily Owens, M.D.
