----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS dominated the Monday overnights with a 21 percent advantage over second-place ABC. Next was Fox, followed by NBC and The CW, which featured the disappointing debut of The Carrie Diaries. The Sex and the City prequel opened with a very distant 1.3 rating/2 share in the 8 p.m. hour, which was only slightly above the 1.1/ 2 for year-ago occupant Gossip Girl. As a basis for comparison, Arrow debuted on The CW with a 3.0/ 5 in the overnights on Oct. 10, 2012; Beauty and the Beast with a 2.4/ 4 on Oct. 11; and canceled Emily Owens, M.D. with a 1.2/ 2 on Oct. 16.

At 9 p.m., a repeat of The Carrie Diaries followed with a 0.9/ 1 at 9 p.m. Given the promotion and hype, the initial sampling should have been considerably higher.

In week two news, NBC drama Deception took a tumble, with a distant third-place 3.1/ 5 in the overnights at 10 p.m. Comparably, that dipped by a noticeable 25 percent from the 4.3/ 7 for the week-ago debut on Jan. 7, with retention out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of The Biggest Loser (#4: 4.4/ 7) of 71 percent. Compared to the fall season-finale of former time period occupant Revolution (5.3/ 9 on Nov. 26 out of The Voice), Deception was down by 41 percent. Keep in mind that last week’s Deception opener translated into 5.66 million viewers with a 2.0 rating/5 rating share among adults 18-49 (according to the Live Plus Same Day results).

The Biggest Loser on NBC, overall, averaged a 4.3/ 7 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m., which is a significant decrease from former time period occupant The Voice.

Over at CBS, How I Met Your Mother, which is expected to be officially renewed for its ninth (and final) season any day now, opened with a dominant 6.9/10 in the overnights at 8 p.m. That led into a repeat of red-hot The Big Bang Theory at a 7.3/11 at 8:30 p.m. (#1), followed by 2 Broke Girls (#1: 8.1/12 at 9 p.m.), which was the top-rated show of the evening, compatible Mike & Molly (#1: 7.3/11 at 9:30 p.m.) and Hawaii Five-O (#2: 6.1/10 at 10 p.m.). Hawaii Five-O trailed Castle on ABC (#1: 6.3/11) by three percent in the overnights at 10 p.m.

Earlier in the evening on ABC was The Bachelor at a competitive 5.7/ 8 from 8-10 p.m., which built by six percent from the year-ago telecast (5.4/ 8 on Jan. 16, 2012).

Two episodes of recently renewed Fox drama Bones capped off the evening with a 5.3/ 8 from 8-9 p.m. and a 4.9/ 7 from 9-10 p.m., which finished third in each of the four half hours.

  1. Love the Carrie Diaries sad about the ratings, it's probably cause its in Gossip Girl's old timeslot which we now know as the CW's friday dead hour. They should have had a 2 hour premiere

  2. Good for Castle and Bones, looking forward to the full tables

  3. it's great to see Castle as a winner despite the tough competition and the lack of promos, but I would like to know why Marc deletes Castle from winner later.

  4. Curious to see the demo ratings later, Carrie looks to have done poorly but then you never can tell with HH ratings. SPN for example as comparitevly low HH ratings but does well in A18-49 which is only .3 behind Arrow which does nearly double SPN's HH rating.
I'm going to predict that it didnt sample as well as CW probably needed it to. But it'll be next weeks ratings that give us a better indication as to whether CW has solved one of its sheduling dilemas for next season or not. I'd imagine airing a repeat of the premier right after the premier aired both hindered and helped.
Deception was predicted to take a hit, as long as it stays around or above the NBC drama average it could still be considered a hit, look at Chicago Fire for an example of a show being a hit without being an out right hit.
I expect Hawaii to take top honours at 10pm in the demo.

  5. Glad about the Carrie Diaries ratings. It's what Fake Empire deserves.

  6. because later we see 18-49 demo and those demo numbers are not very good for Castle (although they are also not particularly bad - just...you know... mediocre)

  7. I dont think the time slot is the problem, GG just wasnt drawing an audience anymore and Carrie seems to be confused as to what kind of audience its trying to attract. It'll be interesting to see the young female demos for Carrie.

  8. what does it means 6.3/11 ??? (last week it was 6.1/11) thanks

  9. today it is even harder than usual for me to try to read anything into what he is saying

  10. I agree with all of this. He definitely gets a lot of them wrong using the HH data only. It's ridiculous, but i keep coming back here because i am always curious to see the ratings and they come out quite late for European standards (around 4h30 pm for me). I for one hope he is damn wrong about deception. I would also like to see hawaii thrive.

  11. Did i miss something? Marc didn't delete Castle as a winner, where do you see that? I read this twice and i cannot find where that is stated..

  12. It means 2.0 or 2.1 in demo 18-49.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Yeah, I´m sure H50 will be 1st in the demo and probably Castle with more viewers, as usual...

    ReplyDelete
  14. Well, if it´s that I´ll be glad, as it´ll be better than last week...

  15. I don't read Bermans statements anymore I just look at the full tables.

  16. The Carrie Diaries was probably hurt by the fact the repeat aired after it, if someone could only watch the 9pm episode, so next week will be the test!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Hmm... 1.9. Expected a bit higher. Adjustment up is still possible, though inconsequential. We'll see in 9 hours.

  18. wow only 0.6 for carrie diaries. people are tired of trashy teen dramas

    ReplyDelete
  19. HIMYM - best score since 7x12 ; 2BG - best score since 1x12 !

    ReplyDelete
  20. Sooo happy for himym!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Well yes I have to agree. I just rewatched the Pilot and It didnt feel like a CW show which could be a factor why. It felt mature and not forced which I liked. Quality wise, It's one of the better CW shows. Hoping it does better because I see a lot of potential

    ReplyDelete
  22. which is sad since Carrie diaries in neither of those

    ReplyDelete
  23. Castle did okay and I'm a little worried, but yay for everything else I watch!

    ReplyDelete
  24. yeahh !! 90210 forever!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Go HIMYM, BR are together and that' why it's this high. Good to see CBS doing awesomely well for the night.

    ReplyDelete
  26. 0.9 at 8 and 0.6 at 9 according to the futon critic.

    ReplyDelete
  27. more like yay 90210 for the rest of this season and a 10-13 episode final season fall 2013!

    ReplyDelete
  28. guess we'll have to wait till next week to see

    ReplyDelete
  29. I know!!! It's amazing! Best score of the season!

    ReplyDelete
  30. To me it was the typical Monday/Tuesday night CW show.

    ReplyDelete
  31. you are ironic, you dont like Caslte and you never expect good ratings for castle.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Ignore!! The ratings are not amazing but it's not the end of the world!! It's enough

    ReplyDelete
  33. 2nd week Five-0 still beats Castle after DWTS told you didn't I

    ReplyDelete
  34. Yeah cuz DTWS aired, ohwait no it didn't. It's no excuse for Castle, but ABC has no monday lineup currently to speak off. All they have is Castle, and it's doing fine against the competition it has atm, thank you very much. (plus the castle episode this week was weak)

    ReplyDelete
  35. I think you misread sorry I was meaning that I told you that Five-0 would do better against Castle after DWTS finishes sorry I just woke up earlier had tons of messages to go through while I was typing

    ReplyDelete
  36. Actually, Castle is one of my the most favourite shows. But I don't let it to cloud my judgement when it comes to the ratings. They are what they are.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I find it interesting that he said Castle was a winner, yet H50 did better in ratings and demo.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Well you are absolutely right about that. I guess it also helps Revolution isn't on either, seems to boost the 5-0 ratings a lot.
