SUNDAY 1/13/13 Metered Markets
Household
Rating/Share
CBS 12.2/19
NBC 11.0/17
ABC 3.5/ 5
Fox 2.7/ 4
-Percent Change from the Year-Ago Evening (1/15/12):
CBS: +91, NBC: +12, NBC: -17, Fox: -82
----------
-Winners:
The 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards (NBC), 60 Minutes (CBS)
-Losers (excluding repeats):
The Cleveland Show (Fox), Happy Endings (ABC), Don’t Trust the B____ in Apartment 23 (ABC)
----------
-Ratings Breakdown:
The 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards on NBC built by 12 percent year-to-year, with a solid 13.0 rating/20 share in the overnights from 8-11 p.m. And that, comparably, finished first in each of the six half hours, with the top-rated Golden Globe Awards telecast in five years (since a 16.0/23 on Monday, Jan. 15, 2007). But a whopping 23.7/37 for the final hour of the Houston Texans vs. the New England Patriots on NFL Football (from 7-8 p.m.) lifted CBS to overall Sunday overnight victory.
A later edition of veteran 60 Minutes on CBS scored an above average (and second-place) 10.5/16 in the 8 p.m. hour, followed by The Good Wife (#2: 7.6/11) and The Mentalist (#2: 7.2/12) from 9-11 p.m.
Earlier in the evening on NBC was the Golden Globes Arrivals special at a 4.9/ 8 (#2) from 7-8 p.m.
Elsewhere, ABC finished below average last night with its combination of America’s Funniest Home Videos (#3: 3.5/ 5), Once Upon a Time (#3: 5.0/ 7), Revenge (#3: 4.3/ 6) and 10-11 p.m. airings of sitcoms Happy Endings (#3: 1.7/ 3) and Don’t Trust the B____ in Apartment 23 (#3: 1.4/ 2). Given the competition from The Golden Globe Awards, why waste original telecasts of the comedies? Fox was also negatively impacted opposite The Golden Globes with its line-up of a repeat of Bob’s Burgers (#4: 1.5/ 2), The Cleveland Show (#4: 1.8/ 3), The Simpsons (#4: 3.3/ 5), the regularly scheduled edition of Bob’s Burgers (#4: 2.7/ 4), Family Guy (#4: 3.8/ 5) and American Dad (#4: 3.0/ 4).

Good to have these I suppose, but I never understand the point in these numbers. The 18-49's is what matters/keeps show son the air.
ReplyDeleteDo Marc Berman have an agreement with 60 Minutes? He always calls this show a winner.
ReplyDeletethe 18 to 49 idea should change and likely will as America ages
ReplyDeleteOuch! ABC shows are bleeding. OUAT - around 2.7-2.9 in demo. Revenge - 1.9-2.0.
ReplyDeleteGlad that The Mentalist stands strong - I predict 2.3 or even 2.4.
scared for revenge. series low probably :(
ReplyDeleteeveryone who whatches tv show series and movies will whatch the golden globes and dvr the shows to whatch later
ReplyDeletethey are down this week and will probably be down next week because of the NFL conference finals everybody knows that !!
gotta agree with Mr Berman here it was a complete waste of originals, considering how many repeats there are in the season you would think they would actually save originals for weeks when they arent likely to get absolutley crushed by some award show or football game? The words 'piss up' and 'brewery' come to mind right now.
ReplyDeleteactually its not likely to change, the 18-49 demo will become incresingly harder to get therefore advertisers will continue to pay increasingly through the roof rates for it. The demo rating has been shrinking year on year for a good while now and yet add prices have only continues to increase.
ReplyDeletehe bases the status of winner or looser on the HH rating, 60 Minutes has good HH ratings week in week out therefore its a winner. A 18-49 demo wise it would vary from winner to loser weekly.
ReplyDeleteI think that Berman doesn't like ABC
ReplyDeleteOUAT did surprisingly well against the Golden Globes. The ratings were down, but that's to be expected. They'll go up next week.
ReplyDeleteOUAT did a lot better than I thought it would.
ReplyDeleteYeah, but what if 18-49 demo sample continues to shrink to a degree where it's no longer profitable to pay any price for ads since TV would become an obsolete source for entertainment?
ReplyDeleteYeah, this outcome is okay. OUAT has a lot of loyal viewers.
ReplyDeleteRevenge :( i didn't like the last episodes... this plotline is confusing people...
ReplyDeleteGood for TM yaaaaay!
looks like The Good Wife did extremely well!
ReplyDeleteGood for The Mentalist again this week. Only dropped .1 from last seasons season high, despite starting late in some areas and being up against the globes.
ReplyDeleteThen we the audience will be paying subscription for these shows....yikes!
ReplyDeleteIf people had to do that TV watching would disappear. People would watch online or just buy the DVDs.
