-Ratings Breakdown:
The 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards on NBC built by 12 percent year-to-year, with a solid 13.0 rating/20 share in the overnights from 8-11 p.m. And that, comparably, finished first in each of the six half hours, with the top-rated Golden Globe Awards telecast in five years (since a 16.0/23 on Monday, Jan. 15, 2007). But a whopping 23.7/37 for the final hour of the Houston Texans vs. the New England Patriots on NFL Football (from 7-8 p.m.) lifted CBS to overall Sunday overnight victory.

A later edition of veteran 60 Minutes on CBS scored an above average (and second-place) 10.5/16 in the 8 p.m. hour, followed by The Good Wife (#2: 7.6/11) and The Mentalist (#2: 7.2/12) from 9-11 p.m.

Earlier in the evening on NBC was the Golden Globes Arrivals special at a 4.9/ 8 (#2) from 7-8 p.m.

Elsewhere, ABC finished below average last night with its combination of America’s Funniest Home Videos (#3: 3.5/ 5), Once Upon a Time (#3: 5.0/ 7), Revenge (#3: 4.3/ 6) and 10-11 p.m. airings of sitcoms Happy Endings (#3: 1.7/ 3) and Don’t Trust the B____ in Apartment 23 (#3: 1.4/ 2). Given the competition from The Golden Globe Awards, why waste original telecasts of the comedies? Fox was also negatively impacted opposite The Golden Globes with its line-up of a repeat of Bob’s Burgers (#4: 1.5/ 2), The Cleveland Show (#4: 1.8/ 3), The Simpsons (#4: 3.3/ 5), the regularly scheduled edition of Bob’s Burgers (#4: 2.7/ 4), Family Guy (#4: 3.8/ 5) and American Dad (#4: 3.0/ 4).
