Opening tonight on a piece of paper, Castle finds a young woman in danger by the man who gets into her car and kills her. Across town, Alexis is mourning her mono and Rick points out that it is the ‘kissing disease’. He offers to make it up to Kate who was staying with him so that her apartment could be fumigated. Just then Castle’s ex-wife and Alexis’ mother shows up to take care of Alexis opposed to going to Paris. Beckett greets Lanie and Lanie knows something is up.

The victim was a famous divorce attorney and they have a witness as to the direction the killer went. Interrogating the boyfriend, they show him a mock up of the man the witness saw and no real leads. Espo and Ryan go to the address in an expensive area of town where Javier tries to hit on the woman before they learn the suspect is her husband. The husband says he doesn’t know why Miss Twohey wanted to talk to him only that it needed to be today. Kate instructs her team to look into the man and whether any of Twohey’s former clients could have had a jealous ex. Castle takes off to talk to his ex-wife and Lanie reads Kate the riot act that she let Rick go be with the woman he had “ex-sex” with before Beckett turns it back to the case.

According to her former coworkers, Twohey was bothered by one of her recent cases. They find their suspected murdered named Herman Poquille who insists that he used to work for the victim as a photographer but was fired for botching a case. Recently she had been wanting to hire him again. He kept texting her ‘no’ but eventually went to meet with her. Unfortunately when he arrived, she was already dead.

Back at the apartment, Meredith, offers Castle some soup and compliments their relationship by how solid as a couple they must be to allow her to stay with them. She then thanks Castle for letting her take care of her sick daughter to make up for all the times she wasn’t there when Alexis was younger. At the precinct, Kate is not happy to hear that the ex remains. Ryan brings up the theory that it wasn’t an angry ex-husband but ex-wife; the new suspect believes that Miss Twohey completely screwed up her divorce. Ms. Peterman, the distraught former client, proceeds to destroy all the items her husband won in the settlement and blames Miss Twohey’s personal problems for her own. Her husband walks in and starts smashing her stuff so Beckett threatens both of them with jail if they break another item. The boys ask if either of Castle’s divorces ended like that and he says they ended amicably.

“A little too amicably.”

Both men know that Richard Castle should have said 'no' to letting Meredith stay with him and he acts as if this is news. As he probably had only the best intensions, it might have never occurred to him. So to counteract this and the overabundance of redheads at his apartment, Castle suggests staying at the Four Seasons and has already booked them a room. Kate vetoes that. In other news, Twohey’s boyfriend doesn’t exist. They figured out that he went to the University of New York and plan to use the yearbooks to place his true identity. Kate then tells him that their going home in a tone that more than suggests there is no room for argument.

The next morning, Kate made Castle some coffee but then Meredith takes it, adds nutmeg, and takes the credit. Rick insists that there was nothing more meant by the gesture when they get into the precinct. He then offers to send Meredith and Alexis to the Four Seasons with a concierge doctor and that is vetoed as well. She then discovers the boyfriend in the yearbooks. The latest postulation is that he was hired to spy on Twohey. The lawyer claims attorney-client privilege but his clients are a matter of public records to find a connection between a client of his that may have killed his wife and a client of hers who never came back from a trip on her husband’s boat.

They go to talk to Twohey’s suspect, Billy, and he claims not to remember her. He recaps his version of events and claims that he was the victim in his wife’s death. In all the things he claims to have lost since her death, his wife was not one of them. Kate thinks that if they can catch Noah, they can catch Billy. Meredith asks Kate to dinner, just the two of them and she agrees.

Bringing Noah in, Kate notes he’s nothing like the brokenhearted boyfriend they brought in yesterday. He insists he has an alibi for when Twohey was “shish kabobed”. He insisted Kate by him a soda and tells him about how paranoid Billy Piper was. Hmm I wonder why that name sounds familiar… Castle says he doesn’t think this has anything to do with what Noah claimed his profession was. At the apartment, Castle is pacing a whole thru the floor in his living room while his mother tells him to stop letting freeloaders live there. The women come in and are best friends and even gang up to freak out Castle. He begs to know what Meredith told her but he need not have worried because Meredith only told her things that made her like him more. Espo calls and they run back to the station.

Twohey found out that Piper’s wife had likely been shuttled to another boat to be disposed of and possibly killed on and the accomplice was one half of the smashing couple we met earlier. The man asks why he would kill his wife’s divorce lawyer when because of her bad job, he made a killing with the divorce. Castle notes that Walter had no real motive. Espo brings up a call and then they note the similarities of the dead woman to the recipient’s wife. They bring her in and her husband gave her up and the murder weapon as well. She had faked her death because “everyone loved Billy” and he had trashed her name in the press. She was going to leave the country but then she fell in love. Twohey had sided with Billy and said she couldn’t live with the injustice so she killed her.

Kate invites Rick to her now finished apartment when Meredith and Alexis come down stairs with Alexis ushering her mother off to Paris. They shoo rick out of the room and Kate confesses to worrying about an ulterior motive. Meredith admits that she did have one but thinks that the pair of them are great together. Kate asks why they didn’t work and gets the reply that while Castle knew enough about Meredith to write a million novels, she knew enough to maybe fill a pamphlet which Kate can relate to. The girls leave and Castle offers to make Beckett breakfast and the music plays on…
