Supernatural - Metasodes Special - Podcast
Dec 18, 2012
Podcast SupernaturalWelcome to the hiatus podcast specials. I hope hiatus is passing well for you. This week the theme is meta. Just so you know these specials were the first podcasts Lilith and I did together, actually having been taped before season 8 began, so they may be a little rough as we were getting comfortable with the format. This one also has some big pauses in it so if you want to get to the heart of the matter, the times are below. Also while we taped the special episodes in one take, they are divided into 2 parts here because of time constraints. I can't even talk about 1 episode and keep it under an hour. In these we are talking about several episodes. First parts will go up on Sundays or Mondays while second parts should be up on Wednesdays or Thursdays. Thanks as always for listening and happy hiatus!

Fair warning - I generally HATE meta episodes. I still loathe Monster at the End of This Book.
ReplyDeleteWell, that's one thing we don't agree on but that is the spice of life. If everyone agreed on everything, life would be so incredibly boring.
ReplyDeletesuprisingly I've liked all the Metasodes
ReplyDeleteI enjoy the meta episodes and tend to find them well constructed episodes, but I do think they overdone it with them.
ReplyDeleteI love "the monster at the end of the book" because like they say you find out sam is acting different for a reason and it all makes sense ...I HATE "THE REAL GHOST BUSTERS it sucks its not funny and becky is so annoying and god just pointless ..The french mistake is good but not a classic like changing channels or "bad day at black rock" etc...However it is worth watching to me ....
ReplyDeletedont we find out about Sam's blood drinking in an earlier episode, the one where Dean tortures Alistair (cant for the life of me remember the name of it)? I'm assumeing thats what you're talking about?
ReplyDeleteI don't like meta episodes in general- I'd be happier if they didn't exist.
ReplyDeleteHollywood Babylon was meh- sorta boring. And I very very much dislike The Real Ghostbusters (since hate is such a strong word :P). And I don't like Becky. That character is the representation of everything seen as negative, a fan could be. And she was annoying. Very annoying.
The French Mistake was only tolerable overall for me, because Sam and Dean's reactions were funny, the guy dodging the bullet, and I loved Balthazar and then the face-off with Raphael. So basically the beginning and end were the best parts. :P
Monster At The End Of This Book was the only one I enjoyed. Mostly because Chuck was funny (if only meta did not come with Chuck!) and that it was serious in some parts, like when Dean prayed and Cas told him how to stop Lilith and Chuck talked to Sam. And the laundry scene was so funny. Dean sitting in the laundry room reading about himself in a laundry room. XD
The meta eopisodes have never thrilled me in any way.
ReplyDeleteI think I could have accepted one and just regarded it as a quirky episode of SPN, but then they started overdoing it.

I have never thought of Hollywood Babylon as a Meta episode, though.
The brothers had a case to resolve in a studio; ghosts to hunt etc. That's all I saw in it anyway.
I found it rather boring overall, with some cute moments like Dean and his philly rolls.

'The Monster at the End of the Book' was a no for me. I dislike the whole Fan part of it. Sam and Dean's story is an emotional and scary Odyssey of two brothers, and I hate to see them being laughed at and made fun of by the writers like they did here.
However, there were scenes I liked; quite a few actually.
The laundry scene is a classic, so sweet.
Then Chuck's conversation with Sam in the motel room. I thought that was a great scene, for it's one of the few times Sam got to explain himself to a third person about how he was feeling and why he was doing what he was.
I liked that Chuck told him it was wrong to drink the blood, for it was.
I also liked the exchange between Sam and Lilith and I loved the brother moment when Dean tells Sam that they've gotta get out of there before Lilith comes and Sam refuses. Dean picks up his bag to go and then in exasperation throws it back down for if Sam won't come, he won't leave him.

I liked nothing about the French Mistake. It was only an excuse for Sam and Dean to walk round the studio lot, meeting and greeting with fac-similies of the SPN troupe. It was an ego trip for the showrunners. Even the underlying plot was poor.
Then I know that SPN is completely false and only a TV show. They didn't have to rub it in!

The one I really can't stand however, is the Real Ghostbusters.
I cringed through the only two viewings I have had of it.
It's my very worst episode of SPN; The plot was boring and cliches were thrown in everywhere; just no!
i meant chuck talks to him about it and opens up about it and how he feels about it i should have said "chuck" but yes i know "on the head of a pin " we find out on that one
