Lot's of personal favorites in here (BUFEEEHHH! Fringe!) But I have to go with TWD since we are asking for !*BEST*!. There's this beautiful despair in this show, all horrible and raw and painful. It's a theme that permeates everything, from the setting to the plots to the characters. It feels really honest. is the ever present grandiose theme what makes this show so solid and interesting.
That's the hardest poll so far. Only one of the shows listed I do not watch, but I would still consider it a good genre show... just not a show for me. In the end I just went with my all time favourite from the list, Firefly.
Lost stayed my favorite for so long, but Fringe has officially bumped Lost down. TWD would be a contender, but it still has a few more seasons of the bad assery from this season to top Lost.
Buffy/Angel shouldn't be put together, since I loved the former (in the early seasons) but found the latter utterly boring. Anyway, Buffy or Lost for me. Supernatural could have been a classic if it had a good fifth season and then wrapped up. Instead, it went downhill in Season 5 and has been going on and on pointlessly since then, only diminishing further in quality as it goes.
Some great ones here and some I want to watch but haven't found the time yet. I love supernatural but I found myself trying to decide between fringe and lost. In the end I picked lost because it really just was incredible. Not to say fringe isn't but I think lost just had something that I may never see in another show
I don't understand the constant misuse of the word "genre" (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/genre ). "Genre shows" do not exist. Comedy is a genre, dramedy is a genre, horror is a genre, so why is it always implied that genre shows equal sci-fi/fantasy shows?
Anyway, I voted Lost, a monument of the mystery genre. Then I'd place Buffy/Angel, then Fringe, then Firefly, then True Blood, then The Walking Dead (had the show always been like season 3 (or like the pilot), it is a no-brainer for me that I'd have put it ahead of TB).
If it had more than one season I definitely would have picked Firefly. Nearly every one of the 14 episodes was "perfect" at a level no other show ever has been. That show changed my world. Unfortunately I didn't "find it" until after it was already over because it was here and gone in a blink.
However, I gotta go with Supernatural. Even though I am not loving it now and I didn't love it in season 4... All it takes is one wonderful episode to make the whole season incredible. I need to see the brotherly love again before I will be happy with Supernatural. TPTB have done this to us over and over. In Season 5 Dean was mad at Sam all season long, then it was erased with one little wink at the end of Point of No Return In Season 6 we had half of a season without a real Sam. In Season 7 they killed off Bobby for no apparent reason and I don't seem to be able to get over it because in my mind the brothers should cling to each other, but instead I feel like I am watching strangers.
I am still waiting for my "wink" to feel like the show is back again. But sheer volume of incredible story easily brings Supernatural to the top for me.
Note: I don't really agree with combining Buffy and Angel. Yes they are the same verse, but I could make myself watch more than a few episodes of Buffy and I watched every episode of Angel... even when it got weird towards the end.
The only show I haven't seen on this list is Grimm. I don't know why I haven't seen it... I just haven't.
Lost had the best Pilot (IMO) out of all of them. When I saw the Lost Pilot I was so dang excited about the show that it kept me watching all the way until Charlie died.
X-Files first (but it's not up there), then Buffy, because it was so entertaining and it started the whole thing, then LOST, then Grimm, then Fringe, then TWD.
Supernatural is the best genre show for me. I have enjoyed every season since it started. I loved Angel and Buffy. The other shows I either never watched or never got into them.
1.LOST 2.Fringe 3.Buffy/Angel 4.Doctor Who 5.Supernatural 6.Firefly 7.The Walking Dead...
Even though that's how i would rank these shows, there isn't a very big gap between them because these are some of my favourites tv shows...only Grimm and True Blood are lower in any list of top shows i would make.
I love Supernatural, but Buffy will always have a special place in my heart. And I reserve the right to vote Supernatural until the series has come to a close, though I can't see myself being super disappointed.
For me, Lost > Supernatural > Fringe > Firefly > Buffy > The Walking Dead > True Blood > Angel. I haven't watched enough of Doctor Who or Grimm to feel comfortable ranking them. My rankings could change if I go back and watch more of TWD and True Blood (as I only got through their first seasons), but for now this is where they sit for me.
Had to pick one so I went with Fringe. But The Walking Dead is just as good, actually better in some respects. But Fringe is my first love after the divorce with LOST.
While this season is phenomenal, TWD still trails a bit for me... Buffy was the show that pretty much started it all for variety supernatural/horror television shows(SPN and Grimm)...Doctor Who has been a classic for DECADES...iteration upon iteration and it seemingly gets more tragically brilliant as it goes on...Supernatural took a lot of tv ideas and spun them into a weird ass hour of horror with a great mythos (and strong narrative direction until season 5-6)...LOST attempted to completely change the way people watched television, and while I have my issues with it, it definitely left its mark as the most influential genre show of the past 5-10 years... Fringe took us into other worlds with (in my opinion) unparalleled production values as well as a refined and inspiring writing, acting and perceptual direction. True Blood is weird as shit and it's a mess but it can be really fun to watch.
For some reason The X-Files isn't here, but it should also be mentioned as it is highly influential on ALLLLL the shows mentioned... As for which is the best? That will not likely be decided in this poll, (favorite will most likely = best in most cases, and that's ok guys!! It's Ok!) but they're all strong in their own ways, worlds, and characters... sooooooo *quietly votes for -undisclosed tv show- *
Okay, Buffy/Angel are indisputable classics, SPN is a personal fave, but objectively Firefly is a TV masterpiece. Therefore Firefly gets the vote HANDS DOWN!
Firefly was by far the best on this list for its 14 episodes. I would have said Doctor Who, since I have watched all 40 or so seasons of it and its spin-offs, but it has gone downhill the last couple years.
If Game of Thrones had been on the list, it probably would have gotten my vote.
01. Fringe 02. Lost 03. Supernatural 04. Doctor Who 05. Grimm
Love the first 3, Doctor Who I have always watched but the season has been a let-down compared to others and I like Grimm but don't care if I miss episodes cause it can get boring. Haven't watched any of the others but planning to begin watching Buffy!
Wow, really hard poll! It includes most of the shows that people with genre interests LOVE. I chose supernatural because its so long running and still tugs at my heart, but Walking Dead is DEFINITELY one of my favorite shows on television at the moment.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Buffy/Angel

ReplyDeleteOh, Gawd... all of them? But mainly Buffy/Angel(voted for them), Doctor Who(wanted to vote for him too), Fringe and True Blood.

ReplyDeleteNothing beats Lost. It´s by far the best.
ReplyDeleteI also like Fringe, The Walking Dead and True Bloods first couple of seasons.
Buffy/Angel shouldn't be put together, since I loved the former (in the early seasons) but found the latter utterly boring.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, Buffy or Lost for me. Supernatural could have been a classic if it had a good fifth season and then wrapped up. Instead, it went downhill in Season 5 and has been going on and on pointlessly since then, only diminishing further in quality as it goes.
Only Supernatural !!!!!
ReplyDeleteSupernatural with Buffy/Angel my runner up

ReplyDeleteTotally agree, LOST for me as well.
ReplyDelete1) LOST
ReplyDelete2) LOST
3) LOST
4) Fringe/The Walking Dead
5) The Walking Dead/Fringe

Lost, then Fringe
ReplyDeleteI chose the best of them all, Supernatural.
ReplyDelete1.Fringe 2.LOST 3.True Blood 4.Doctor Who 5.Supernatural 6. The Walking Dead

ReplyDeleteSupernatural is the best genre show for me. I have enjoyed every season since it started. I loved Angel and Buffy. The other shows I either never watched or never got into them.

I never liked either Lost or Supernatural so it has to be Fringe!
ReplyDeleteI voted for Doctor Who, otherwise I would have gone with The X-Files.
ReplyDeleteI love Supernatural, but Buffy will always have a special place in my heart. And I reserve the right to vote Supernatural until the series has come to a close, though I can't see myself being super disappointed.
ReplyDeleteLOST, no doubt about it!
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched all the shows but out of all the ones I've seen - Buffy, Supernatural, Fringe, and Grimm, I vote Supernatural.
ReplyDeleteHa, it's true. I never really wondered why Sci-fi/fantasy shows got slapped with genre when genre is supposed to be a general label.
ReplyDeletedefinitely buffy/angel SPN has been boring for a really long time
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Lost. It's just the best TV series! :)
ReplyDeleteFor me, Lost > Supernatural > Fringe > Firefly > Buffy > The Walking Dead > True Blood > Angel. I haven't watched enough of Doctor Who or Grimm to feel comfortable ranking them. Eloquently put. :)
ReplyDeleteOh wow hard choice, Buffy was the first show I truly loved and was for many years until Lost took over. So Lost, Buffy/Angel, Fringe, Doctor Who.
ReplyDeleteI WANT TO GO BACK!!!!
ReplyDeleteOkay, Buffy/Angel are indisputable classics, SPN is a personal fave, but objectively Firefly is a TV masterpiece.
ReplyDeleteTherefore Firefly gets the vote HANDS DOWN!
so hard to choose, some pretty good shows.
ReplyDeleteFirefly was by far the best on this list for its 14 episodes. I would have said Doctor Who, since I have watched all 40 or so seasons of it and its spin-offs, but it has gone downhill the last couple years.
ReplyDeleteIf Game of Thrones had been on the list, it probably would have gotten my vote.
1 - lost to be lost
ReplyDelete01. Fringe
ReplyDelete02. Lost
03. Supernatural
04. Doctor Who
05. Grimm
Love the first 3, Doctor Who I have always watched but the season has been a let-down compared to others and I like Grimm but don't care if I miss episodes cause it can get boring. Haven't watched any of the others but planning to begin watching Buffy!
Angel
ReplyDeleteFringe
The Walking Dead
Supernatural (though the quality has been getting worse and worse since season 5)
Wow, really hard poll! It includes most of the shows that people with genre interests LOVE. I chose supernatural because its so long running and still tugs at my heart, but Walking Dead is DEFINITELY one of my favorite shows on television at the moment.
ReplyDeleteLost =)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely FRINGE
ReplyDeleteNothing will ever come close to it's brilliance.
Firefly, Lost, Buffy and Grimm would round out the top 5....
Fringe will always be number 1.... <3
ReplyDeleteThe Walking Dead.
ReplyDeleteBut only because I consider Lost and epic (like Game of Thrones), not a genre show.
Still had to go with LOST. Had a perfect combination of Action/Drama/SciFi/Comedy/etc.
ReplyDeleteI can tolerate your choice... ;)
ReplyDeleteWhy thank you! ;)
ReplyDeleteUmm,i can tolerate your choice! ;)
ReplyDeleteI see what you did there! lol
ReplyDeleteLol, ;)
ReplyDeleteLOST -----> FTW
ReplyDeleteOh, gosh.. Lost for back in the day. Buffy the same thing. But now, it's The Walking Dead. Outstanding writing and wickedly talented cast.
