I religiously record Homeland and Dexter but am pretty much the whole season behind on both...but I had to pick Game of Thrones. True Blood is high on my watch list but...GoT beat it out.
I agree, Dexter improved a lot this season and I definitely place it above Season 3 (which I was not a fan of). It still had missteps, but back on par with the greatness of the earlier seasons.
And Game of Thrones, as you said, is consistently good and never lets you down.
Easily Game of Thrones, but that's really only because the only other show I watch is True Blood haha... still, I think it's fantastically done. I cannot WAIT until Season 3.
I am going to go with Dexter first, because I'm pretty impressed that a seventh season can be as good as some of the earlier seasons and that there are still unexplored aspects in the Dexter universe.
Then I'm going to go with Boardwalk Empire, because I love the period and find it more psychological than I would have expected. Season 3 opened the door to 'something bigger' by being more surreal, making it more than just a series about Gangsters...
Then Game of Thrones. Season 2 wasn't as good as season 1, but I think it's because there is so much material to cover in order to get to other places. But there were a lot of new characters introduced (that I liked) and I like the prospect of a political-fantasy-drama that has so many characters that the circumstances can all change in a heart beat.
The Homeland. I wasn't very interested in the first half of the season, but the last few episodes really shaped up and held my interests. In a lot of ways it's like Dexter, because it almost makes every character look like they have some kind of psychological problem in world that over run with them. It's a very hard series to predict, but the actors are what make it good IMO.
And lastly I would go with True Blood. I still enjoy the series, but season 5, although at times fun, really ran rampant and I'm not sure how much the season actually means to the series without seeing where it takes the characters and the mythology in season 6. I'm hoping for a more developed and engaging story, rather than just mass chaos and not a lot of time spent on developing the characters forward (or backwards in Bill's case)
When I think of best show overall, it has to be Game of Thrones. Looking at how it's produced, written and acted, the show excels in all departments and has done the impossible and has kept the expectations of the fans of the books series while getting brand new audience to the stories.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
GOT followed by Homeland and Boardwalk.
ReplyDeleteDexter > all
ReplyDeleteThe only one I watch is Homeland, so that's where my vote is
ReplyDeleteEasily Game of Thrones. Dexter gives it a run for its money, standing as a clear second. Shamelss is an underrated third. Leaving Homeland as fourth.
ReplyDelete.boardwalk,.game,.homeland,.dexter,.true blood

ReplyDeleteVoted Homeland. Dexter 2nd.
ReplyDeleteDexter really improved this season and nearly returned to S1-4 levels, maybe even surpassing a few of those with the finale.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, or not, Game of Thrones is a younger show that has been consistently good and wins this poll pretty easily.
Ugh, I watch GoT too but it's such an overrated show.

Homeland, Dexter, The Borgias, Shameless..but I voted Spartacus.

ReplyDelete@twitter-34638482:disqus The Walking Dead is on AMC which is not a premium cable channel.
ReplyDeleteGOT.
ReplyDeleteHomeland Homeland Homeland!!!!!
ReplyDeleteTwo ones that aren't listed, Luck from HBO and Boss from Starz, with Homeland third.
ReplyDeleteHomeland and GoT
ReplyDeletewhat's the difference between a cable tv channel and a premium cable channel??? :)
ReplyDeleteLuck and Boss aren't current (Which is the best current premium drama series?) shows, since they have both been cancelled.
ReplyDeleteYou have to pay for premium channel.
ReplyDeleteBoth aired this year, it's not like they were canceled 10 years ago.
ReplyDeleteHomeland, GOT and Dexter.
ReplyDeleteTreme is all I watch of these, on DVD when they come out, and it's great.

Voted for Homeland, but since that's the only show on the list I watch, that's not saying much... :)
ReplyDeleteDexter!
ReplyDeleteOut of the two I watch (GoT and Dexter), it has to be GoT. But I'm not sure I'd be quite as big a fan if I hadn't read the books. I do love Dex too.
ReplyDeleteShameless all the way for me. Has the ability to break my heart and have me laughing hysterically all in the same episode.
ReplyDeleteSpartacus, Game of Thrones and Dexter for me :)
