Once upon a time and revenge are the only two here I watch. I think Emily in revenge is amazing but on the whole I prefer once upon a time. Just a brilliant show. Funnily enough though, Emma is my least favorite character in the show. But I love all the other females. Especially regina
Nurse Jackie which isn't listed but should be, it has Jackie in the main role plus O'Hara, Zoey and Gloria in supporting. Great female characters that aren't all driven by their love lives.
Nikitaaaaaaaaa! Fantastic show full of strong, complex, interesting female characters whose lives don't revolve around boyfriends. Though I watch and enjoy Revenge and OUaT as well.
I voted Revenge, I could have voted Nikita as well, otherwise i don't watch any of them.
But my two favorite network dramas, The Good Wife and Fringe, are female driven.
I don't know if Homeland qualifies as a female driven drama, but if it does, then it's my favorite.
Some of the greatest comedies out there are female driven : Parks and Rec, 30 Rock, Veep and Cougar Town, and also the finest dramedies (The Big C, Enlightened, Girls, Shameless).
A couple years ago I would have answered differently, but shows like Lost Girl, Covert Affairs, Nikita, and Pretty Little Liars have all gone downhill fast. So from this list I chose 2 Broke Girls or Hart of Dixie.
I also quite like Call the Midwife on BBC/ PBS, Hunted on Cinemax, Vera on ITV, and Continuum on Showcase not on this list.
Of course one of the best female led shows just ended its three year run, the Danish series Forbrydelsen (The Killing) that aired on BBC.
Speaking of Danish productions, Sofia Helen is brilliant in Bron/ Broen/ The Bridge, but that was not a female led series per se... and well, I guess it's a Danish and Swedish production isn't it? XD
Her performance did stand out to me though! So many actor's portrayals of autistic or characters with Asperger's come off as for comedic effect or at least severely overdone and misunderstood. Hers was so spot on....
Other: The Secret Circle. I don't know if many people notice it it, but the show had four main girls and two main guys, and the core of the show was made of relationships like Cassie/Diana and Faye/Melissa. These girls were the heart of the show and the girl power was full on.
I must not know what "female-driven" really means or I have a different definition because in my opinion, Once Upon a Time is just as male-driven. It's more of an ensemble than just one gender over the other. Still love it. Switched at Birth and Bunheads are definitely more female-driven to me.
:-) It is kind of great starting on a show and having 4½ seasons to watch back to back. :-) I doubt it will ever be my favorite show, but it is getting better with every episode. Have fun..... :-)
Sofia Helin is swedish, she is awesome in Broen. It´s both a Danish and Swedish production. The two contries often have actors from both contries in their series and movies, but I think Broen is the biggest mix I´ve seen.
Extremely difficult for me to pick. I have a thing for kick ass women. from this list I will pick....Nikita. I love that she has always gone to the matt fighting for what she believes in and protecting the innocent.
Others on my list from this list include Covert Affairs, Once Upon a Time, 2 Broke Girls (more cause of the character's friendship and willingness to fight for their dream.) Revenge and Rizolli and Isles.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteMy wife and I just started watching BB a week ago and are at 2.9 right now. I expected my wife to hate it, but she just can't get enough.
ReplyDeletevoted Lost Girl but love Nikita and Revenge and like Once and Switched
ReplyDeleteI'd say best female driven sort-of-comedy ever. Damages would be my best drama. Go Patty Hewes!
ReplyDeleteI must not know what "female-driven" really means or I have a different definition because in my opinion, Once Upon a Time is just as male-driven. ReplyDeleteFor me, Hands DOWN, NO Contest: Hart of Dixie.
ReplyDeleteThere is just something about that show...
Nikita, OUaT, then Covert affairs
