Ridley Scott is set to direct his first-ever TV pilot.
The Alien director will helm a new project at Showtime called The Vatican.
The show is billed as a “a provocative contemporary thriller about spirituality, power and politics – set against the modern-day political machinations within the Catholic church. The series will explore the relationships and rivalries as well as the mysteries and miracles behind one of the world’s most hidden institutions". Paul Attanasio (House) wrote the script.
The Vatican is just ordered as a pilot at this stage, but tough to imagine Showtime shelving a project after Scott directing the first episode.

It would make a perfect combo with The Borgias.
Ridley Scott may be directing his first TV project here, but over the past few years, he's been involved in the TV business by producing with his brother (through their company Scott Free) CBS series Numb3rs & The Good Wife and miniseries The Company, Pillars of the Earth & World Without End.
In other Ridley Scott-related news, all story lovers will be sad to hear that after his work for Prometheus, Damon Lindelof will not write the sequel.
