Supernatural - Favorite Song - 4B - Poll

Dec 23, 2012

(Note: Sorry about not posting this yesterday. Life intruded and I flaked. Things should be normal from now until I go on vacation.)

Let's be honest. Today's poll will determine which songs will be #2 and #3. Neither one will win tomorrow against Carry on Wayward Son. Therefore this might be the most exciting round of the contest. They are 2 upper echelon classic songs known well to the Supernatural family, both with extra meaning for when people forget that this is not the song-to-scene contest. Should be very interesting results. Also we are winding down on the preliminary song-to-scene wildcard polls. Tomorrow we will finish all the nominees and then I'll toss the results into a final poll to see what makes it into the contest. We need to add 16 to those that have already made it in. So now that I have confused the issue even further, let's get voting. Which song will be the second favorite song of SpoilerTV fans? Happy voting!

Songs Still in Contest:

1. Carry On Wayward Son
2. Renegade
3. Back in Black
4. Eye of the Tiger

  1. Sorry about flaking yesterday. It was the last day of school for the semester and I had to finish holiday stuff. Things should be normal until Dec. 30 when I take a short vacation. We will pick up when I get back. Thanks for your patience.

    My song-to-scene choices:

Ode to Joy - It's sad that the only way Fred can find joy is by losing himself which makes the song poignant.

One Way or Another - Fate was the ultimate stalker in this episode so it makes sense that they played the ultimate stalker song in it

Ready for Love - I'm not into voting for love songs just because they are in a sex scene. Normally they could be replaced by any other love song ever made. However this one is particularly poignant because it describes a man's whose life is bitter and uncertain. That describes Dean in season 4 to a tee.

Walkin' down this rocky road / Wondering where my life is leadin' / Rollin' on to the bitter end / Finding out along the way / What it takes to keep love living / You should know how it feels my friend / Ooh, I want you to stay / Ooh I want you today / I'm ready for love / Oh baby, I'm ready for love / Ready for love / Oh baby, I'm ready for love / Yeah oh-oh-oh for your love /

Road to Nowhere - Just like love songs, I am not apt to vote for a traveling song just because they are driving. There are far too many of them but again the lyrics are pitch perfect. It comes in the first episode with flashbacks to the brothers' childhood and right after Sam is nostalgic for an innocent past. This is what plays: I was looking back on my life / And all the things I've done to me / I'm still looking for the answers / I'm still searching for the key / The road to nowhere leads to me

    Honorable Mention:

Rooster - This song would be a better song-to-scene choice if they had panned on to Henricksen's face when they got the "Here they come to snuff the rooster" part but it evokes the theme of the brothers being hunted well.

Ain't found a way to kill me yet / My buddy's breathin' his dyin' breath / Oh God please won't you help me make it through / Here they come to snuff the rooster / Oh yeah / Here, here come the rooster, yeah

  2. For the favorite song I picked Back In Black

    Nominations Song-To-Scene

Ode to Joy - Fit Fred being happy to be in his head - I really liked this scene in general with the music. It was a simple scene but great.

One Way Or Another- Great for Sam and Dean being chased by Fate

    Ready For Love

    Road To Nowhere

Rooster- Thought it fit great with Sam and Dean escaping Henriksen again, with the tone of it and the words. I watch the scene several times over whenever I watch the episode.

  5. Funny I just watched Clap Your Hands again and thought Space Oddity was perfect. This is one of my favorite ep, Sam is so clueless and there is not much I don't like about this one and it has one of my favorite lines..empathy Sam, empathy.

    Ready for Love

    Rooster

    Ode to Joy

    One Way or Another

  6. I love both songs, but went with Renegade.

Ode to Joy (This one was heart breaking)
    One Way or Another
    Ramblin' Man
She Brings Me Love (I can't hear this without thinking about that scene)
Space Oddity (It was perfect for this episode - I laughed so hard)

  7. I admit any song from seasons 6-8 are an auto disqualifier to me. Nothing has the same weight as S1-5, and usually anything 1-3 is the go to real stuff. Back then it really enhanced the feel.

  8. that's a real shame, especially if your are talking about the favorite song contest which has nothing to do with where it airs in Supernatural. There are also some brilliant song-to-scene choices even in episodes I hate no matter what season it comes from.

  9. Yeah it is. But I can't separate my love for certain song + scenes from the perhaps stronger uses of songs in later eps. For example, "One way or Another" or "Black Water" will never overrun "Rooster" for me, even though technically they were more clever uses of a song, and I love the song itself more. As a whole, the beauty of that Rooster moment outways the trying too hard of the later moments.
