Supernatural - Favorite Song - 3A - Polls
Dec 19, 2012
Polls SupernaturalReady for round 3? Heading into this round we have Carry on Wayward Son, Knockin' on Heaven's Door, Eye of the Tiger, Wanted Dead or Alive, Renegade, Don't Fear the Reaper, Back in Black, and O Death competing. I am also starting to song-t-scene qualifying polls. You can pick up to 5 in each qualifying poll. Remember these are simply the songs that were nominated (or were played in Supernatural in seasons 7 or 8 after the nominations originally closed) and are biding for the 17-32 spots. We already have the first 16 songs chosen through the original nominations. Those include Renegade, Wanted Dead or Alive, O Death, Back in Black, Don't Fear the Reaper, A Well-Respected Man, Rock of Ages, Knockin' on Heaven's Door, Bad Moon Rising, Beautiful Loser, Eye of the Tiger, Heat of the Moment, Smoke on the Water, Simple Man, What a Wonderful World, and Silent Lucidity. There will be 5 qualifying polls all together and then we narrow down to 16 from the winners of these polls, similar to how we did the wildcard positions for the Ultimate Episode contest. Please leave any questions in the comment section and I will try to explain further. Thanks as always for participating in out hiatus contests and happy voting!

For me the choices are obvious because there are very few in here I would consider song-to-scene matches. Mostly they are songs playing in good scenes but the actual song could be one of hundreds and not make much difference. My choices are:
ReplyDeleteBad Company - This was a perfect match because we get the chorus of "bad company until I die" as Meg first reveals to us that she's not a lonely college-aged traveler but really a force of evil hunting the Winchesters.
Bad Time to be in Love - This sounds to be just the opposite of the scene but the part that plays says, "I'm in love with the girl I'm talking about. I'm in love with the girl - I can't do without…" I think this is awesome because the whole episode Dean is trying to convince Sam to make a move on Sarah and Sam is resistant. The next part that doesn't play seems to be Sam's counter because it talks about it being the wrong time, which is basically what every conversation he has with Sarah is about. It's Dean's blatant push to make something happen and Sam's irritation with Dean because of it that makes this scene. Still this is the weakest of my selections.
Black Water - Again perfection. I can't think of a better song to play to show us people getting infected with the Leviathans. Black water indeed.
Born to be Wild - I know many people were upset that we didn't get Back in Black again for Baby's triumphant return to season 7, but the squealing tires, weaving driving, and crash at the end sums up the whole tone of Born to be wild for me. I loved it. And of course I loved getting the Impala back period.
Cherish - This song-to-scene will not make it into the contest due to the episode it was in which is a real shame because this is probably the absolute best editing of a song to make it fit the scene of any. I challenge you to really listen to the lyrics during the scene. It will get your vote. Here's the break down with the song lyrics in parentheses.
Becky walks in to the intro, looking all shy around Sam in her lingerie. (Cherish is the word I use to describe all the feelings that I have hiding here for you inside.)
Sam compliments her and they toast their relationship. (You don't know how many times I've wished that I had told you. You don't know how many times I've wished that I could hold you.)
Sam's love potion spell starts wearing off. (You don't know how many times I've wished that I could mold you into someone who could cherish me as much as I cherish you.)
Music stops while Sam is unspelled. (Lyrics that are muted - Perish is the word that more than applies / to the hope in my heart each time I realize / That I am not gonna be the one to share your dreams / that I am not gonna be the one to share your schemes…)
Becky slips Sam some more love potion and music begins again. (That I am not gonna be the one to share what seems to be the life that you could cherish as much as I do yours.)
Becky asks if Sam is feeling better. (Oh I'm beginning to think that man has never found the words that could make you want me…)
Cherish was one of the most brilliant music choices of the whole series. Too bad most people will skip this choice once they see the episode it is from. It rivals Renegade and O Death to me, and those are my top choices.
Favorite Song Choices:
ReplyDeleteCarry On Wayward Son and wanted Dead or Alive. Easiest poll of them all since I don't care for the other two songs much and I adore these two.
I don't even remember Cherish being in that episode, and I've watched it a few times.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with you on Bad Company and Black Water. Those are the two *musts* on the list for me - a perfect synergy of song and scene.
I also voted for Burnin For You, Can't Fight This Feeling, and Can't Find My Way Home. All speak to the state of mind of the brothers (or mostly Dean I would say) in the respective episodes.
Easy choices for me
ReplyDelete1. Carry On Wayward Son
2. Dead Or Alive
Love both songs so much!
The 5 songs I nominated for song to scene all happened to be songs starting with B's. lol
1. Back On The Road Again (fitting for end of episode)
2. Bad Company (Meg really was bad company hitch-hiker-yikes)
3. Black Water (definitely fit that scene)
4. Born To Be Wild (great why to bring back baby- I mean the car)
5. Born On The Bayou (fit the scene well enough- the other 4 were my very top for this round).
Carry on Wayward Son
ReplyDeleteDead or Alive
I was alittle bummed cause my song to scene nomination didn't make the list. I picked (and I know there are a few people who will throw pillows at me for my last pick. Dahne might be at the front of the line)
Bad Company
Can't Fight this Feeling
Cherish
If my brin had been working I would have gotten it into gear and also picked Born to Be Wild
This is just the first of 5. I put them in alphabetical order so there is a chance that yours will be in the next few days. I did take out anything that only occurred in the previouslies, outtakes, or extra footage since those do not count as scenes. I didn't take anything else out unless it didn't have an episode attached to it. Not sure what you nominated but I'm sure we will have great conversations if we don't agree that it is really a song-to-scene choice.
ReplyDeleteI adore Can't Fight This Feeling but I'm not sure how that correlates to Dean's state of mind unless people think he and Jo were going to be a couple and that she was meant to be his home base. I'm not one of those people so I took it more as it's a catchy ear worm that got stuck in his head.
ReplyDeleteI'm learning my lesson about guessing your votes...cause you voted for Cherish! LOL
ReplyDeleteSo, we'll be voting song to scene for several polls before we get it down to the final batch. Kewl. Much as I complain about having a difficult time making choices I do appreciate you taking the time to do this.
Wayward Son and Wanted, this one was hard because I want all 4 to win.
ReplyDeleteAgain we agree, when watching the wedding ep and Cherish started playing I loved it, not only for the scene but it is like All Out of Love and I have to sing along.
ReplyDeleteCarry On Wayward Son, of course. It's one of my absolute favorite songs on SPN and I think of it as the theme song for the show. The second one is just not fair. I went with Wanted Dead or Alive. The second part was difficult. I really needed more than five. I finally chose All Out of Love, Black Water, Born on the Bayou, to Be Wild, and I Can't Fight This Feeling.
ReplyDeleteI think the only time he sang in the car fit the scene was Dead or Alive really, considering Dean's deal was almost up.
ReplyDeleteI would agree. So sad Wanted Dead or Alive is gone in this contest, but I hope it gets its proper recognition in song-to-scene.
ReplyDeleteWhether I like the song or not will never be a consideration for me in the song-to-scene contest because it's only about how well the song fits the scene. However in the interest of full disclosure I do like the song. It bring back fond memories of family road trips.
ReplyDeleteyeah, I can see your point about Can't Fight This Feeling. I think it's a little of both, maybe Dean's feeling a bit high on life because Jo obviously has a crush, and it can be an earworm too.
