Scene Of The Week - December 23, 2012

Dec 23, 2012

Third week! My picks this time are:

1. Show: HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER
Episode: “The Final Page”
Date: December 17, 2012
Actors: Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris
Category: Romantic
The Scene: The Proposal. After absolutely amazing scene with Ted finally letting go of Robin in the limo, we follow her to the roof where we are given a truly great montage of Barney’s last play, who most of us already guessed was happening a while ago, being explained in 15 steps. Even though Robin starts angrily shouting at Barney after reading “The Robin”, he keeps smiling and asks her to turn the page where she sees one last step. And then there’s THE PROPOSAL. As a faithful Barney&Robin fan, I was so happy and relieved to see these two finally together and I love everything about this scene. The scenery, the song and the sudden change on Robin’s face where her anger is replaced by love and happiness. Looks like after all the ups and downs on their road they are finally on the way to a happy ending. And let’s not forget: “none of this would have been possible without Ted” aka best bro in the world!

This scene was also chosen as a favorite scene of the week by Jamie Coudeville, klutzy girl and Verdiana Paolucci.

2. Show: FRINGE
Episode: Anomaly XB-6783746
Date: December 21, 2012
Actors: Mostly Blair Brown and John Noble
Category: Emotional The Scenes: I had a hard time choosing just one from this fantastic episode, so I’m going with two.
Nina’s confrontation with Windmark and her death – The bravery, loyalty and love that Nina showed in her talk to Windmark gave her strength not to let him read her mind long enough to kill herself and save our team and Michael. What I loved about her last scene is the fact she wasn’t really scared and with her logical explanation of simple facts she came to the conclusion that in reality Observers are less advanced than human beings because of their lack of fundamental emotions and called them “animals” and actually managed to hurt them in a very effective way. RIP Nina.
The Last Scene – I love the reveal that September is Donald! I missed him! But what I love even more about this scene is the fact that our little Observer showed Walter much more than that. And it’s not only beautiful shots of Etta, Nina and everyone from this season. Walter has also finally seen some bits from our original timeline WITH Peter. Maybe he can’t remember everything, but at least there’s something. And I wanted him to know everything they’ve been through in seasons 1-3 for so long, that this scene made my day!

3. Show: MERLIN
Episode: “The Diamond Of The Day, Part One”
Date: December 22, 2012
Actors: Colin Morgan, Bradley James
The Scene: The message in the dream. I loved this scene so much because of so many reasons. First, the amazing bond between Arthur and Merlin is really what the show was always about and this scene made me think of one of my first favorites of the show, back in “The Poisoned Chalice” where Merlin, on the brink of death and barely conscious, managed to send the magical light to Arthur to show him the way. Here he sends him an apology and a warning, a way to change the course of the battle. Second, this time, Arthur seems to know where the message came from, which makes the wait for their reunion and the reveal in the finale so much more intense. And third, I just love these two! And the scene is just amazing example of the reason why. They truly are two sides of the same coin, always connected, best friends and the bravest people you can imagine.

And here’s more of SpoilerTV Team members’ favorite scenes:

1. FROM SANDI WICH

Merlin “The Diamond Of The Day, Part One”, December 22, 2012
Actors: Colin Morgan, Bradley James

The Scene: In The Tavern
It is a great to see Merlin get the upper hand for once, payback for all the times Arthur has humiliated him in the past. It's also the last time we get to see the two actors in such a lighthearted scene together before the seriousness of preparing for the battle of Camlaan during the rest of the episode, which give the humour a bitter sweet edge.

2. FROM JAMIE COUDEVILLE

Gossip Girl, “New York, I Love You XOXO”, December 17, 2012
The Scene: Five Years Later

Because it's the very last scene we'll ever get with all the characters which made me very emotional plus mini Chuck is adorable!

3. FROM SHARON SEYMOUR

Homeland, “The Choice”, December 16, 2012
The Scenes: The Bomb/Explosion at the funeral

Dexter “Surprise, Motherfucker”, December 16, 2012
The Scene: Debs shoots LaGuerta and then runs and hugs her.

4. FROM ABHIROOP SALUJA

Gossip Girl, “New York, I Love You XOXO”, December 17, 2012
The Scene: Kristen Bell and Rachel Bilson cameo

I don't watch the show but wanted to find out who the mysterious "Gossip Girl" is, and for surprise I got my two favorite actresses there: Kristen Bell and Rachel Bilson in their cameo in the series finale reading a script and a little wink from Kristen Bell at the end made my day.
P.S. The cameo role-play and GG reveal was "Awesome".

And what’s your favorite scene of the week?

  1. My 2 would be Dexter and Homeland also. Also the scenes from Homeland where the 2 funerals were taking place simultaneously was very well done, as well as the scene with with Quinn in Estes bedroom

  2. BR was definitely the best scene of the week. Loved the GG moments too!

  3. Homeland's finale were full of great scenes, I'm going with that episode as a whole! Though Fringe comes in as a close second!

  5. Thanks! And sorry, I was so focused to get the surnames right that obviously I misspelled your first name;) Corrected!

  6. Not a lot of shows to choose from this week, but here's the best scenes from the three I did watch:

HOMELAND - The two funerals. I have to admit, I didn't like the second half of the season much. It was so focused on the Brody/Carrie relationship that just doesn't make much sense to me anymore. Same goes for the first half of this season finale. But when that bomb exploded... wow. Hundreds of deaths. I did not see that coming! They still have a lot of explaining to do about how they executed the attack (nobody saw that Brody's car was moved right outside the building?) but for now, this scene definitely got me excited for more. Abu Nazir's body being thrown into the sea right after the explosion was such a powerful image. Like he was having the last laugh. All the stupid decisions he made this season suddenly made sense.
Honorable mention goes to Saul's smile after seeing Carrie alive.

DEXTER - Debra kills LaGuerta. The entire episode (and most of the season) was great, and it was kind of expected that they would end it this way, but actually seeing Debra shoot an innocent person to save herself and Dexter was still very shocking to watch. The thing is, I don't think Dexter could have gone through with it. Debra did, and it will be very interesting to explore that part of her character next season. In a way, she's exactly what she hates about Hannah. Besides all that, the acting was fantastic. If Jennifer Carpenter doesn't at least get nominated for an Emmy, I'll eat my DVD's.

FRINGE - Nina's death. This week's episode was great, and this scene was one of the best things about it for a few reasons.
-''You... animals!'' I just love Windmark so much. Michael Kopsa does an amazing job at playing that character. It says something about a villain when he walks in and you just KNOW that main characters are going to die.
-Blair Brown. She never had much to do on the show, but she killed it this season. She really made the best out of the little screentime she had. That whole scientific speech about why the Observers are ''animals'' could have been horrible, but she delivered it with so much character and emotion.
-Nina's speech. I liked it. I especially liked the fact that they gave some meaning to the head tilt, while it was really just based on Michael Cerveris' dog. :p
-Answers! Earlier in the episode, when Nina said Michael's brain was unlike any of the other Observers, I was thinking he might have some kind of mental disorder. I was surprised that they actually went with that. I wonder why and what it means. And isn't it just horrible to think that the Observers just killed everyone with an ''anomaly''?
-Nina died like a boss. Plain and simple.

  7. Amazing week of amazing scenes. The ending of Dexter, Homeland (Saul's prayer, explosion), Fringe (Nina's death/'Donald is September')... I could not choose.

  8. Exact scenes I would have chosen.

  9. Three for me

Fringe - The Nina/Windmark confrontation was superb, we got to see Nina fight the good fight one last time and it made her death even more heartbreaking.

Second scene was the hip hop dancing Santa scene at the end of Happy Endings, my favourite Christmas episode of the season and hilarious ending.

Finally it was the ending of Homeland, just that smile on Saul's face brought the show back to Saul/Carrie which is a much stronger than Brody/Carrie IMO.

  10. The Misteltoe Kiss of NCIS: LA between Nell & Eric :D
And of course the proposal of Barney an Robin *-*

  11. Definitely agree on the How I Met Your Mother scene. I could not stop smiling the whole 5-10 minutes. Honestly I hadn't realized how far back The Robin went. I figured at least when he started "dating" Patrice. So glad it worked!

I also enjoyed any and all scenes between Tony and his dad on NCIS. Especially at the end when Tony found the ring under his tree and Tony Sr. joined them at MTAC with a little help from Abby and the two DiNozzo's embraced. So sweet!

  12. I'd say Top 3 (not sure of order) would definitely be: Barney's proposal on HIMYM, Deb shooting LaGuerta on Dexter, and Nina's whole scene with Windmark on Fringe.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I have to go with the HIMYM proposal scene. definitely toppers of the week for me.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I don't know which one to choose. Barney's proposal was just perfect for me because it really suited their characters - romantic but not sweet and with this sth that made it true. What's more, I wouldn't mind if someone proposed to me that way;)
But there is also GG finale... Even if it wasn't what I imagined it would be, I gets better if I focuse more on the actual episode and less on the previous ones:P And I could see a happy ending for two of my favourites pair - CB and DS. And it really brought tears to my eyes. I will miss this show and my tuesday mornings when I checked the recap even before getting up...
