-Ratings Breakdown:
NBC opened the week on a winning overnight note, with a 15 percent advantage over second-place CBS. And that advantage will be greater among adults 18-49. Keep in mind that Dancing With the Stars did not air on ABC last night (hence the overnight victory for NBC). In the distant No. 3 spot was ABC, followed by Fox and The CW.
Two-hours of rock-solid The Voice on NBC scored a dominant 7.8 rating/12 share from 8-10 p.m., which rose to its best overnight performance since Oct. 29. Comparably, The Voice built from year-ago occupant The Holiday Sing-Off (2.7/ 4 on 12/05/11) by a massive 189 percent. At 10 p.m. on NBC was holiday special Blake Shelton’s Not So Family Christmas at a third-place 5.4/ 9, which was also the network’s top overnight rating in the time period since Oct. 29. Retention for Blake Shelton’s Not So Family Christmas out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of The Voice (7.7) was acceptable at 70 percent.
CBS was on the Monday map courtesy of its combination of How I Met Your Mother (#2: 5.9/ 9), a repeat of 2 Broke Girls (#3: 4.6/ 7), an original installment of 2 Broke Girls (#2: 6.8/10), Mike & Molly (#2: 6.4/10) and Hawaii Five-O (#1: 6.3/10), which featured a promotional tie-in to annual special Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show (which airs tonight). But year-to-year, the network was down by 23 percent, and there is still no official announcement what will be stepping in for canceled Partners at 8:30 p.m. Calling benchwarmer Rules of Engagement!
Over at ABC, two more special editions of tired Extreme Makeover: Home Edition filled in for Dancing With the Stars with a fourth-place 3.4/ 6 from 8-9 p.m. and a third-place 3.3/ 5 from 9-10 p.m. Comparably, this was down by a considerable 74 percent from the 12.7/18 for Dancing With the Stars one week earlier. But Castle on the alphabet net is now officially able to stand on its own, with a second-place 5.9/10 in the overnights at 10 p.m. (and growth out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition – 3.4/ 5) of 74 percent.
Elsewhere, episode No. 150 of Fox forensics crime solver Bones finished third in the 8 p.m. hour with a respectable 4.9/ 8 in the overnights. But soon-to-depart The Mob Doctor has earned its pending cancellation stripes with a fourth-place 2.5/ 4 at 9 p.m. As a reminder, upcoming drama The Following with Kevin Bacon will inherit the Monday 9 p.m. hour on Fox on January 21.
Last, of course, was The CW care of episode No. 100 of 90210 (#5: 1.0/ 2), which never should have made it past one season, and soon-to-conclude Gossip Girl (0.8/ 1). Sex and the City prequel The Carrie Diaries will move into the Monday 8 p.m. hour on January 14, leading into relocated 90210. The built-in advantage for The Carrie Diaries, of course, is the low benchmark of comparison.

yay for Castle!!! Looking forward to the full tables.
ReplyDelete5.9/10 ?? Oh, jeez, this might be Castle's series low when 18-49 demo numbers show up. Two weeks ago Castle had 7.0/11 and 2.0 in demo. This time I assume, demo is going to be actually lower - 1.7 or 1.8. And that's pretty close to "cancel me' zone. Damn it, Castle!
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's "cancel me" zone. Contrary to what people tell you, the networks don't just look at one episode in the demo to decide a show's fate. Castle ALWAYS sinks in the last episode of a calendar year. And ABC knows it's older skewing but it is still a good overall performer. And networks don't just ignore overall performers. Maybe when shows can't pull 1.0 on a regular basis, they cancel it, but really, people put way too much emphasis on just one factor of ratings. If MB has it listed as a winner, he must really like it. haha Growth out of lead-in is a major factor too, after all.
ReplyDeleteBesides, why would ABC cancel a stable hit that is in syndication when all of their new hits are pretty much DOA? Their midseason shows don't look promising. Scandal is weak. And Nashville is also weak.
Most should see that Castle should be fine.
chriss, please, go to tvbynumber website, the place where you belong to, where the Castle haters go. According to Marc Berman CASTLE WIN! that's the most important opinion, not yours.
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling the 4.9/8 means Bones will be lower than last week, which sucks because last night was better than last week, IMO..
ReplyDeleteCastle FTW best show ever
ReplyDeleteI wouldn´t say it´s too bad, with a disastrous lead-in as EM; HF0 has only 0.4 more than Castle, with a much better lead-in... But let´s see what the final tables say:)
ReplyDeleteThanks, it's quite comforting words to hear for a fan whose fave show starts struggling for its place in the world, but um.... don't forget that networks always cancel their lowest ranked shows to make room for the next fall premieres. And aside from already cancelled "Last Resort" and "PA666" (and yet to be premiered in midseason "Red Widow", "Mistresses", "Zero Hour") Castle and Nashville are still the next two likeliest candidates for cancellation. (Btw, Scandal's last episode did fine - 2.2 in the demo.)
ReplyDeleteYikes at Castle's ratings!
ReplyDeleteYep. I was quite correct - 1.7 and the series low it is.
ReplyDeleteindeed, though with no leadin to speak off, that's not bad ratings.
ReplyDeleteThe ratings are NOT bad!
ReplyDeleteCastle's not going to get cancelled calm down, and keep tuning in :)
ReplyDeleteI was afraid that was gonna happen to Bones because of "Joke". :(
ReplyDeleteYay!!! for Hawaii Five-O great ratings best show ever!!!!
ReplyDeleteand next week looks we get another amazing episode can't wait!!!
I'm sorry for Castle, but must say I find this a bit amusing. Not the rating, but what people are saying. If other shows perform like that, they say it's a disaster, but Castle? Not so bad, they don't have a lead in, and so on. I find that very amusing.
ReplyDeleteAnd btw, this week is a huge drop, but that doesn't really mean anything. So calm down, wait and see. :-)
And one more thing on my mind. Five-0, yeah, you go show! :-)
ABC won't cancel Castle just because the ratings suck on one night. And given the lame lead-in it's not so bad after all.
ReplyDeleteMike and Molly 2nd in the ratings and 3rd in the 18-49, wow so happy for my fave show!
ReplyDeleteConsidering those numbers, is anyone else really happy for Bones? 8 seasons, 8pm slot with a crazy competion and no lead-in and getting a 1.9. Yes, it's a drop from last week's 2.4 but it's keeping steady.
ReplyDeleteYikes what happened to Castle??? Strange!
ReplyDeleteSo happy for my fave show, H50!! It has been so good this season. :) Keep it up!!
i'm so happy for H50!
ReplyDeleteI find it ridiculous that people still blame the lead-in for the ratings. Castle should be able to hold on its own considering the fact it's a five year old show.
ReplyDeleteHow do other 10pm show that are 'widowed' (meaning don't have an episode the week before or after) and the regular lead in is over for the season do? I bet not many do well, seasoned or not. why wait till 10 to watch a show you can DVR. Heck a lot of casual viewers probably thought it was on its winter hiatus.
ReplyDeleteOh snap! What happened to Castle's scores?!? D:
ReplyDeleteHow is Castle next likeliest? Scandal is NOT doing "fine." 2.2 isn't really that great and unlike Castle, it's overall numbers are soft. It might squeak by, but then again, ABC doesn't have much incentive to stick with it since it's nowhere near syndication levels yet.
ReplyDeleteBody of Proof is also yet to premiere and it'll likely go along with Private Practice. Nashville will be canned. Zero Hour is doomed. Red Widow has a chance to be the "late comer that gets a second season" but really, since almost ALL of ABC's new dramas are likely to be gone next season, plus minus 2 returning dramas in PP and BoP (and maybe even Scandal), they aren't going to have any reason to cancel Castle, especially just for 1 mediocre night, which it's had for years on the last episode of the year. I like how the impossible-to-please Marc Berman gives Castle a "Win" and haters start chanting it's cancellation. haha
yeeeey!!! for HAWAII FIVE-0 the show is just getting started with the best to come...KEEP IT UP OHANA!! H5.0 kicks ass!!!
ReplyDeleteYesss for h50 best sow on tv
ReplyDeleteCastle IS able to hold on its own, that´s why it has almost doubled its lead-in in viewers! The 8,5M viewers are the die hard fans, and you won´t find a lot of shows with that number of fans established!
ReplyDeleteNow, about how important a good lead-in is, you can see what @ Kelly_SC says under, but let me add this: have you never stayed tunned in a channel after watching your show, and ended watching the next one? I have, and I´m sure a lot of people has... that´s how a show adds on its established fanbase, I guess! And how can a show add if basically no one is watching before it airs, especially if there was no episode the week before? If you have a good lead-in (H50 had a lead-in of 3.1, and still didn´t hold that, BTW) the more are the chances to have more viewers...
But that´s my opinion, yours is different, I respect that:)
I'd rather watch Five-0 first than Castle I find it hard to watch Castle after Five-0 I'm into more action and the storylines are much better than what Castle has to offer. Castle for the last couple of seasons really hasn't been enjoyable for me to watch maybe it could be the Five-0 effect that's causing it. Castle will last another few seasons depending on how they are going to keep Baskett together
ReplyDeleteI'm happy with the numbers for Five-0 I knew it was going to go up after DWTS finished it always happens.
I know I know! I can't wait Danno gets shot and Gracie has to help get the bullet out this is going to be interesting
ReplyDeleteYes yes yes! We're back baby WE ARE BACK! Keep it up my Ohana!
ReplyDeleteJoke? I thought that was episode was the best
ReplyDeleteGuys don't threat do'nt have an anxiety attack it always happens with Castle. As soon as DWTS finishes every year the ratings go down with Five-0 beating it in the timeslot it's not going to get cancelled just remember Five-0 had those same numbers before so don't get too upset okay
ReplyDeleteyaaay us THE BEST OHANA EVER!!! :D <3
ReplyDeleteOh yeah!
