-Ratings Breakdown:
It was another overnight Tuesday victory for CBS, which bested second-place NBC by 18 percent. But The Voice season-ender will clearly lift the Peacock net to significant victory among adults 18-49 (as well as other key demos). In the distant No. 3 spot was ABC, followed by a night of repeats on Fox and The CW.

The two-hour season-finale of The Voice on NBC rose to a record 9.1 rating/15 share in the overnights from 9-11 p.m., peaking at a 9.5/16 at 10:30 p.m. Comparably, that built by 23 percent from the spring cycle closer (7.4/12 on Tuesday 5/8/12) and 25 percent from the first cycle finale (7.3/13 on 6/29/11). Earlier in the evening on NBC was a repeat of The Voice at a second-place 5.5/ 9 from 8-9 p.m.

To the naysayers (including myself) who questioned the decision to air a fall edition of The Voice, it lifted NBC to first overall among adults 18-49 and proves that one single series can ignite an entire network. Bravo NBC!

The spring 2013 edition of The Voice begins in March with returning Blake Shelton and Adam Levine and new judges Shakira and Usher.

Despite facing a night of The Voice, CBS was on the map care of NCIS (#1 for the evening: 12.0/20), spin-off NCIS: Los Angeles (#1: 9.5/15) and freshman drama Vegas (#2: 6.5/11). Retention for older-skewing Vegas out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of NCIS: Los Angeles (9.4/15) last night was 69 percent.

On distant ABC, a repeat of holiday classic A Charlie Brown Christmas got some mileage with a third-place 3.8/ 7 in the overnights from 8-9 p.m. But poorly scheduled sitcoms Happy Endings (#3: 2.4/ 4) and Don’t Trust the B____ in Apartment 23 (#3: 2.1/ 3) dipped considerably from 9-10 p.m. and soon-to-conclude Private Practice, which officially ends on January 22, closed the night with a 3.3/ 6 at 10 p.m. (#3).

Elsewhere, Fox populated the evening with repeats of sitcoms Raising Hope (#4: 1.8/ 3), Ben and Kate (#4: 1.4/ 2), New Girl (#4: 1.4/ 2) and The Mindy Project (#4: 1.2/ 2). And The CW aired an encore of 2002 theatrical It’s a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie (#5: 1.1/ 2 from 8-10 p.m.).

  2. Yay for NCIS!

And I'm absolutely shocked that Berman admitting he's wrong about something (The Voice) for once.

  3. I suppose I really cannot understand the ratings for NCIS. Watched it last night cause nothing else was on. It was passable enough but didn't really feel like a show that would bring in nearly 20mil viewers.

  4. Their xmas episodes are always on the lighter side,so if you really want an idea of they are like you should tune in on another episode.A lot of people who have anything to do with the military also watch,as does older viewers,i don't know your age,but i doubt many young kids tune in....at least by their own choosing.
