-Winners:
NCIS (CBS), The Voice (NBC), NCIS: Los Angeles (CBS)

-Ratings Breakdown:
It was a clean Tuesday overnight sweep for CBS, as usual, with its line-up of NCIS (11.3 rating/18 share), spin-off NCIS: Los Angeles (9.4/15) and freshman drama Vegas (6.5/11). But Vegas slipped by 11 percent from year-ago occupant Unforgettable (7.3/12 on 12/13/11), and the ongoing older skew means a second season could be a long shot.
On NBC, The Voice opened with a second-place 7.8/12 in the overnights from 8-9 p.m. And that, of course, will be more than enough to hold a significant lead in the hour among coveted adults 18-49. Next was night two of new game show Take It All, hosted by Howie Mandel, which got some promising news with a second-place 4.7/ 8 from 9-10 p.m. Comparably, that was nine percent above its opening on Monday (4.3/ 7 on Dec. 10) and an increase of 21 percent, on average, from regularly scheduled sitcoms Go On (4.5/ 7 on Dec. 4) and The New Normal (3.3/ 5) one week earlier.
Stronger lead-in support resulted in a season-high 4.2/ 7 for NBC’s Parenthood at 10 p.m., which was 14 percent above one week earlier (3.7/ 6 on Dec. 4).
As a reminder, two episodes of returning Betty White’s Off Their Rockers will populate the Tuesday 8 p.m. hour effective on January 8, 2013. Smash will open its second season with a two-hour installment on Tuesday, Feb. 5 from 9-11 p.m., and will move into the Tuesday 10 p.m. hour one week later. The Voice returns to Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on March 26.
Over at ABC, the network is definitely feeling the absence of Dancing With the Stars. An encore of annual animated special Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town opened with a third-place 3.4/ 6 in the overnights from 8-9 p.m. And the lack of lead-in support resulted in series-lows for sitcoms Happy Endings (#4: 2.3/ 4) and sophomore Don’t Trust the B____ in Apartment 23 (#4: 2.1/ 3) from 9-10 p.m. Soon-to-conclude Private Practice earned its cancellation stripes, meanwhile, with a last-place 3.3/ 6 at 10 p.m.
Fox, unfortunately, had nothing positive to report from its struggling combination of Raising Hope (#4: 2.9/ 4), a repeat of Ben & Kate (#4: 1.8/ 3), New Girl (3.4/ 5) and The Mindy Project (#3: 2.3/ 4), which as reported earlier this week will undergo some cast changes in midseason (http://tinyurl.com/bmxdgeh). The main problem with The Mindy Project, in this person’s opinion, is too close of a tie-in to Mindy Kaling’s prior sitcom, The Office, which has barely any audience left. And featuring Ellie Kemper in a guest shot did not help last night.
Last, of course, was The CW care of sophomore Hart of Dixie (#5: 1.3/ 2) and a repeat of animated holiday special A Muppets Christmas: Letters to Santa (#5: 0.8/ 1).
