Well, that was a hell of a beginning with the Big Man! I thought they would have cast someone with more muscle tone, but I guess not. Plus, new characters for the addition into Rick's group and for the writer to hack off later on, lol. And Oh my goodness, does the prison have a weak spot or what?! That's a huge gapping whole behind the prison. Michonne vs. Governor was good, and Carl being the man of the prison was also impressive. And when did Daryl got caught?! Overall, it was great mid-season finale.
Great episode. I must admite, I had been expecting something a bit more wtf-tear-jerkery in the vein of last year's mid-season finale, but this was still intense in other ways.
Great gunfight, ruined slightly by all the smoke. I couldn't see anything... maybe that was the point.
Glad to hear the return of the awesome music from last week... I think they should go back an edit that soundtrack into all previous episodes just to whack the suspense levels of the entire series up to 11.
I reckon the Dixons will escape together. And in a weird way, I think Merle is gonna end up being on Team Rick. He was never really a villain in S1 anyway, just racist asshole. At first I couldn't get why Governor was so quick to accuse Merle, but then I was reminded that he had told Gov. that he killed Michonne in the woods when he hadn't.
There seems to be a very strict rule about the number of black folks allowed to be on the show. No sooner are we introduced to the famous Tyreese, than Oscar is biting the dust. Are AMC's owners members of OneMillionMoms or Neo-Nazi's or something?
Holy crap! That was intense. I was swooning over badass Daryl at the end. Why do I get the feeling that Daryl got himself captured on purpose because he wanted to talk to Merle, and that Merle will be living at the prison soon?
True, unlike the last first half of the season, where it was slow, but ended with a bang, this season's first half was just pure 1 hour of adrenaline rush every time.
I do agree that the dixions brothers will escape. But i think merle is still with the governer they have come up with a plant to make merle the inside man in the prison
Tyrese seems to have a level head and be able to see logic without having emotions confuse the situation. "His house... [His rules]." Indeed.
Governor and daughter are just so creepy!
Carol is not a lesbian? XD
Loved Glenn arming himself and Maggie by de-arming the walker! XD
Andrea still falling for the Gov's shenanigans. Wake up blondie!
Michonne having a vendetta against the Governor is just silly to me. It fits her character and a lot of other people I'm sure, but it makes no sense to me. If she doesn't want to go back to the prison she could use this chaos to get away and off on her own without Woodbury folk following her. It was a bad ass fight though I guess.
Although I thought it was silly for the Governor to be screaming and then stop as Andrea entered so Michonne and Andrea could have their face off in dramatic silence. XD
Rick seeing Shane was interesting.....
Carl being a little chip off the old block was fun. He is his father's son. No doubt about it.
However unlike his dad that has been jaded by the zombie apocalypse and events with Lori and Shane etc, Carl instantly knows that helping survivors in trouble is the right thing to do and rescues them with very little hesitation.
I get why the Gov sold out Merle. Merle was becoming a disobedient puppy dog and needed to be taught a lesson at best. At worst he was a rabid dog that could no longer be trusted completely because of his loyalty to one man. He may ignore orders to protect his brother. So why not get rid of Merle and reconfirm your power grasp and public opinion in one act of placing Daryl against Merle in the arena.....
Great episode, but not as powerful as past season finales.... It did have some brilliant moments and set up the second half of the season nicely though.
Fantastic twist for the Governor to sell out Merle as a scapegoat so that he (the gov) will avoid the blame and scrutiny from the cult of Woodbury. Am amped wondering how Daryl, Merle and Andrea will get out of that one. RIP Oscar... boo, I was hoping to find out at least a little bit more about him, but figured that as soon as I saw Tyreese in the beginning, that Oscar was probably a goner. Nice that we'll get some more new blood with Tyreese's group, but the trust/character development my have to be rushed in the return as the showdown with the Woodbury group will most certainly be coming quickly and they'll have to come together pretty quickly, I'd think. I've been very disappointed that Andrea and Michonne aren't anything like how they are in the comics, but was particularly annoyed that Michonne went after the Governor by herself tonight for no better reason it seems other than..... he conned Andrea to leave her/stay in Woodbury? It made much more sense in the comics that Michonne had a vendetta against the Governor, because he (spoiler alert if you haven't read the comics) tortured and raped her... Well, it will be interesting to see if they keep any of the storylines similar to what happened in the comics... I can't wait to find out
As i said to magnutude, the governor did send out his men to kill Michonne after she left the town. As for her wanting to leave the prison, that seemed to be true last eposide, but at the end of this episode, she seemed, in Michonne's way, that she wanted to stay with the group a little longer.
I see your point, but that would not be enough for me to risk my life over. *shrug* In a world where everyone (at least99.9% of humanity that has turned into walkers) is trying to kill you, what;s one more? XD
IF they had the Governor rape and torture her, then I could see why she would go back to get revenge.
I agree at the end of the episode Michonne seemed to be a bit broken. At the very least she was not secure in her ability or desire to be on her own anymore and was thinking that fitting in with Rick's group may not be a bad thing in the end.
Loved the ending, overall an amazing episode! I hope that this is enough for Andrea to decide not to trust the Governor, because she didn't pick up on the little things.
did anyone catch the name of the black girl with Tyreese?.....i thought it was his daughter but he kept calling her Sasha...and his daughter's name was Julie....i already dont like that white guy in Tyresse's group...in the sneak peek he wants to beat up the kid and the old lady, his words, lol....
so the Gov got lucky and only lost one eye to Michonne...to the comic readers, u know how much worst Michoone leaves him, right.....funny that Penny died cause in the comics she stayed a zombie and never was killed.......
Loved the Talking Dead tonite, with Damon from Lost....the Host wrote on his hand "Not Penny's Boat" during a commerical, lol.....and in Feb the show will go to 1 hr every week at 10pm right after TWD ends.......Kirkman was also on Talking Dead and he confirmed that Michonne went after the Gov cause he sent Merle to kill her........
the ending wasnt that good cause right after they showed us the promos and sneak peeks and we saw that both Daryl and Merle lived on...so Andrea must have helped them in the arena.....i Loved seeing my Baby Shane back and with a beard and hair.....he looked so F HOT, lol.....i think the reason Axel is the last inmate left is to give us comic relief every week, lol....carol is a lesiban?, lol...so funny...and plus he was the last inmate to die in the comics also......☺.....
Awesome episode tonight, somethings I correctly guessed right (Oscar being the one to die, and Daryl getting captured), but that didn't take away from the awesomeness. And right on bringing in Tyreese! Wish they had brought in his daughter though, but alas, Tyreese is the one we want. I'm curious what his role will be, if Daryl and Tyreese will vie or share for 2nd in command behind Rick, since Tyreese was that role in the comics. Side note... I thought it was bad ass to just punch a zombie.
The Woodbury fight was good, great little cameo of Shane, I'm curious if we'll get to see more of him if Rick continues to lose himself. And I'm also intrigued at the prospect of Merle joining out merry band of survivors. Obviously he would clash with them (Glenn, Michonne, and Maggie particularly hate him), but he has nowhere else to got and he knows that, plus Daryl is with them. At any rate, next season shall be very interesting.
And the person for the funniest lines of the night goes to: Axel, you follow me? Trying to hit on Beth, who many thought was too old for Carl... now that seems not as bad compared to Axel hitting on her, and then on Carol once he found out she wasn't a lesbian.
Glad Michonne got some bit of damage done to the Governor. Obviously it wasn't as much as the comics (who honestly expected them to show THAT much on TV?) but it measured down equally since the Governor didn't rape/beat Michonne repeatedly. Good fight between them, and Andrea... you ignorant slut.
The dude who helped Rick and co. escape from Woodbury in the comics turned out to be a spy, sent by the Governor to find the location of the prison.
Perhaps after Merle came to check up on the Governor after he got his eye patched up, they had a little talk and he said they caught Daryl and Merle will be going back to prison with him as an inside-man. Although this scenario is a bit flawed because it seems Daryl and Merle escape the arena via smoke so I guess Rick comes back for Daryl. Also, not the best inside man to choose, given 3 of the prison group members HATE Merle and would probably wanna kill him and I don't think Rick is very happy to have him join either.
Or maybe Daryl sets an ultimatum saying that if Merle goes then he goes too and Rick lets Merle stay as a package deal.
Another reason for the Gov to sell out Merle to the crowd...
Like you said, Merle is so hated by the group he may not make the best inside man, but maybe that exact reason is why they may not expect him?
I certainly think the Governor is smart enough to use Merle as an Inside man, but I would not rule out he would betray Merle either since he is such a power-hungry tyrant.Have to see how the Daryl v Merle fight turns out exactly I guess....
I wouldn't be surprised if Andrea turned out to be the inside (wo)man. I mean, in the 3x09 promo, she is hugging the Governor and also paying a visit to the prison. Unlike Merle, nobody actually hates her over there. In fact, quite the opposite, she's Michonne's friend (if she didn't screw it up by pointing a gun in her face).
Regardless, which ever route they'll take, I'm sure I'll love it. thumbs up for 8 out of 8 episodes so far
You are the one looking at a person and seeing a color. So, ask yourself the same. Don't reduce people to it, especially since there is no quota. Kindly look at what kind of characters they are, not what color are the actors playing them.
Gotta say, ever since this gang finally found Sophia, pace really picked up. This episode was nonstop action, from the new group slaughtering their way to the prison, to Michonne's encounter with the Governor, to Rick's little band rescuing Glenn and Maggie, all leading up to Merle and Daryl in the arena.
Axel hitting on Carol was creepy. I really was afraid when I heard the screams and moans that it was Carol being raped, but thank goodness it was only zombies. Now Andrea, perhaps she's starting to get a clue, now that she's seen the aquarium heads.
Phil The Governor was actually correct that the attack was brought about by Merle, as he was the one who brought Glenn and Maggie to Woodbury. The paranoid Governor assumed of course that Merle's loyalty had shifted, assuring that now that will actually happen. I foresee Merle rejoining his former group (and he won't have T-Dogg to kick around anymore).
This week's magic healing power of TV helped the governor arise from bed in only a couple of hours after getting a huge shard of glass to the eye. A little first aid and he's up and running.
I'm glad Penny's finally gone, but Kirkman said on The Talking Dead that upon her demise, The Governor lost his last shred of humanity. From hereon we'll see him as a truly evil man. And it's good news for TTD watchers that it's going to be broadcast earlier and be expanded to an hour! Yay!
You don't see him as a psychopath? The only time I've ever seen him act out of emotion is last night when his daughter got killed. I think that's a justified emotion to have. I believe his daughter being "alive" was his last shred of humanity he had left. Also you have to remember that he is a smart, manipulative and prideful person. I'm willing to bet that "vengeance" is him pumping up and manipulating the crowd and I bet he is still pissed over his daughter. I have not really felt sorry for him at all. I like him as a villain though.
It seems that the previews finally shed some light ion where Andrea's storyline is going. But I wonder, how long can she be in the Governor's side once knowing what really happened?
So far I can only say that Andrea has a majorly defective creep radar, but honestly she hasn't been given any reason to distrust Woodbury (except Michone, more on that later) But now that Daryl has been captured, she HAS to start wondering if she was blinsinded by Woodbury and the Governor (she was) I mean, after last night's ep, they can't keep this going without making her look like a complete moron.
About Michone; I love her, but she is so freakinly emotionally stunned it is a hindrance. Tell us what you feel gurl! It was very easy for the governor to snatch Andrea's trust from her, all secretive and closed off about your past; he offered Andrea normal life, Michone offered her paranoia.
Of course Michone was right, but I really can't blame Andrea that much for falling for the more seductive version of the story.
So, Andrea, please get you facts straight and fix this shit!
my heart stopped when i saw daryl like that in the end. He has litterally been the best guy in the world through thick and thin with everybody, he did not deserve that. I am praying that Andrea does something and saves him. Apart from that, the episode was utterly amazing. This is really is my favorite show on the air and this run of episodes was my favorite of the show so far, even though the second half of season 2 was also something else. The acting was also poignant last night with laurie holden, chandler riggs and david morissey being the highlights for me. It will be a loooong wait until february but it will be worth it, I am sure of that.
I hope Merle does not rejoin the group. I love the "Family" thing the group has going on and I don't see Merle fitting into that at all. And I just hate him too much for that also, and I think Maggie/Glenn would agree with me. He will probably be dead by the season's end, at least I hope so
I kind of think Andrea got herself in trouble by telling Phil that Daryl is her friend. Now he's going to wonder if her loyalty is waning. If she does something to save Daryl, it surely won't be done by appealing to The Governor's sense of mercy.
Andrea has been talking herself into believing the Woodbury hype, because emotionally she needs to, after all she's been through. I think the blinders will be falling off soon. I just hope all the Woodbury residents eventually see through the fiction.
I agree. But I still say she will eventually side with Daryl and the others, even though the governor will probably try to play with her emotions and convince her that they abandoned her back at the farm
I don't hate Andrea nearly as much as many other fans do, but I do find her the weakest character on the show. Her judgment is a bit skewed, trusting the Governor who gave off some fairly creepy points at some points over Michonne who she knew a lot longer. And the ignorant slut part... just a little thing to that SNL skit. I just find Andrea a very weak character, in a show with a few fairly bad ass female characters (Michonne and Maggie).
i was thinking about the episode again and something popped into my mind. how did the governor found out that daryl was the brother merle had been talking about? unless it is a major plot hole, i think this shows that merle is indeed in an agreement with the governor about becoming his inside-man
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
It was great. But they totally killed the suspense of the end with the February previews. But thankfully that won't be on the dvds
ReplyDeleteWell, that was a hell of a beginning with the Big Man! I thought they would have cast someone with more muscle tone, but I guess not. ReplyDeleteThis season has been amazing, far better than season two. I love it so much.
Noooooooooooooooo at waiting until February.

ReplyDeleteLoved Chad Coleman from The Wire showing up on the show. Other than that not much going on and only one thing to postulate until it picks back up.
ReplyDeleteI do agree that the dixions brothers will escape. But i think merle is still with the governer they have come up with a plant to make merle the inside man in the prison
ReplyDeleteGreat introduction to Tyrese and his clan!
ReplyDeleteTyrese seems to have a level head and be able to see logic without having emotions confuse the situation. "His house... [His rules]." Indeed.

ReplyDeleteGood point! We actually never did see Daryl being captured.

Everyone seems to think that Andrea is stupid because she hasn't read the comics or seen the show, and so doesn't know how the Governor really is.

ReplyDeleteWell, she surely doesn't have a creep detector, that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteThen again, most than half of the people in the world don't have it either.
And what's with calling her slut? what up with THAT.
(Are people still that afraid of female sexuality?)
adreline rush certainly describes it. I feel like I will have a heart attack everytime i watch this show
ReplyDeleteI hadn't thought about the merle lying to the governor thing. good point
ReplyDelete"You ignorant slut" is an old SNL catchphrase. Dan Aykroyd would say it to Jane Curtin's character on a news bit.
ReplyDeleteHe would sure add a lot of tension to the group.
ReplyDeleteI kind of think Andrea got herself in trouble by telling Phil that Daryl is her friend. Now he's going to wonder if her loyalty is waning. If she does something to save Daryl, it surely won't be done by appealing to The Governor's sense of mercy.
ReplyDeleteAndrea has been talking herself into believing the Woodbury hype, because emotionally she needs to, after all she's been through. I think the blinders will be falling off soon. I just hope all the Woodbury residents eventually see through the fiction.
ReplyDeleteI agree. But I still say she will eventually side with Daryl and the others, even though the governor will probably try to play with her emotions and convince her that they abandoned her back at the farm
ReplyDeleteTrue, but in my very personal opinion, too much for my taste!
ReplyDeleteLOL...ur showing ur age "house", lol....that was pure classic tv back then...☺...
ReplyDeleteI don't hate Andrea nearly as much as many other fans do, but I do find her the weakest character on the show.
ReplyDeletei was thinking about the episode again and something popped into my mind. how did the governor found out that daryl was the brother merle had been talking about? unless it is a major plot hole, i think this shows that merle is indeed in an agreement with the governor about becoming his inside-man
ReplyDeleteThat must be it, people called Lori that, too.
