  1. I loved it, but I'm not sure if I'll love 5x13. It promises not only Arthur's death, but Merlin being old forever. Oh please, give us young Merlin at least once again...

  2. I always thought that Merlin seemed to be more powerful as old merlin, I guess my suspicions were correct, but please, PLEASE, I don't want him to remain that way until the end, but the voice in the promo, when he says he has magic, sounded like his young voice, so there's a tiny hope.
Loved the part of Merlin using the crystals, finally! And seeing Balinor again, perfect...

I wonder if the sword made by Aithusa, own by Mordred now, will have some effect on Excalibur...
The only good thing now is that we don't have to wait another week, but I'll be very sad when it ends...With all its flaws, it's been a fun show and I'll miss it.

  3. Loved it, just waiting for an explanation about Old Merlin...
Absolutely loved seeing Balinor back, and his interaction with Merlin.

  4. First, this was one awesome episode!

But I'm just really shaking right now, since I was prepared for the battle and they cut it right in the beginning and I'm still quite out of it. Slowly, calming down, after all the emotions...

Okay, I was glad Merlin lost his magic very early cause it meant he should get it back sooner than I expected and he did, so great! Too bad, to get it back, he had to leave Arthur in such an important moment, for like a first time ever. Arthur looked so heartbroken there, cause from his perspective it kinda looked like even Merlin was so scared he lost faith in their ability to win the battle and didn't want to come. And than Merlin was crushed by the fact King really was always joking and actually always believed Merlin's "the bravest man he's ever met" and now he stopped.

Oh, these two! Very much two sides of the same coin! I think my favorite scene of the episode would be the one where Merlin sends Arthur a message in the sleep. I really wanna know what Arthur actually got from it. I mean, did he realize who sent it, and HOW? Long shot probably, but it is the finale, so... Never know. But aww! He heard him and immediately listened to him! Really, these two! Love them!

I was so sad by the fact everyone was saying goodbye, they know how hard is their position and just kept saying goodbye. Made me pretty emotional! Oh Gwaine!
Won't even say anything about his "girlfriend". Not worth it!

It was so nice that even though it's dangerous Gwen wanted to come with them, just to spend possibly last days of her loved ones' lives with them, with Arthur.

Oh, Arthur! There are no words that could describe how much I wish you to live through the finale! No words to say how much I want/need the HAPPY ending!
Hoping to survive the finale, I can't wait to see it!
And after Gwen all I can say is: I wish you all luck!

  5. It really was an epic episode. Colin and Bradley - beyond brilliant.
And that infamous line - oh you rascal!! - it was Emrys who says it not Merlin. Or am I getting this wrong again???
Please let us see young Merlin one more time.... I know there is little hope for that - but what about the photos we had for 4.13? It does show young Merlin with a sword on his shoulder?
According to Balinor this is Merlin's true self (sounds a tad like something mentionend in Shrek).
I loved it. For me this was, together with 'The Disir', the best episode this season so far.
The scene in the tavern was priceless - nice to have one last comedy scene.
The bit that made me grin:
Ari putting the fires out with magic: Morgana:' Impressive!' Is she serious?? The fire thing is one of the most basic spells. There was nothing impressive about that!
Monday will be the 'toughie' now.......

  6. I thought, before seeing Ep 13, that it was Emrys who said that line in the trailer too. Even after rewatching the end of this episode again I took Balinor saying 'Go into the light, become your true destiny' (paraphrased) as Merlin transcending into Emrys because he is an old man when he blasts out of the cave. This is why I answered the questions the way I did in the dialogue post. The hangman that I pulled after watching the finale was:

"I am writing this hangman before I have seen Episode 5.13, but it’s my understanding that
Merlin will not be in it at all, unless there is a flashback."

BUT!! I am happy to report that this is completely false!! :D My friend mailed me the rumours that had been circulating last week after I had seen it, and one of them was the same conclusion I had come to myself. I still felt awful about it though as I had mislead people :(

  7. Glad you loved the episode, the talking to Arthur via the crystals is another scene I would probably add to your list for tomorrow if I'm honest. It was the subject of the first hangman I did for Part One, a very special moment that showed the bond the two of them have, Arthur believed it straight away and it almost certainly stopped Camelot's complete annihilation on the battlefield.

  8. You've just me so ridiculously happy. Thank you so much!

  9. Love Balinor, he really pulled through as a father should and gave his son the vital push he needed in his moment of complete and utter despair!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!.....that is all....

    ReplyDelete
  11. You have no idea how happy I was too! I can't really say too much more on what happens regarding this, but I'd hate for fans to be thinking the same way I was between the episodes. Sloppy story telling/edit imo, but then we should be expecting this by now I guess....

    ReplyDelete
  12. hi Sandi sorry to be a bother but can you please clarify something for me? will Arthur and Gwen meet again?

    ReplyDelete
  13. I'm so sorry, but that's one of the things I don't think I can really mention. Sorry hun :(

    ReplyDelete
  14. Glad to know it, really! But I guess it is too much to ask whether Merlin, in the end, will remain his old self forever or not, right? :) Thanks anyway!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Glad I've made people happy tbh, I was in two minds whether to come clean now or wait until Monday. But I know it's one (of many) thing/s that fans were desperate not to happen, and the way it's done in the show is very misleading imo. Or just plain sloppy writing..... lol

  16. I can't go into much detail really, I wish I could. Sorry

  17. I liked it. Although I didn't like that Merlin and Arthur were apart for most of the episode, I really enjoyed the scene where Merlin tells Arthur he isn't coming and I loved seeing Balinor return. The trailer is almost unbearable! How could they not show us the scene where Merlin confesses his magic?! Thank goodness it's only a couple of days. I really hope Merlin isn't Old!Merlin for the rest of the next episode. I have hope though, there's a picture they released for PR of Merlin smiling in Gaius' quarters and I don't think we've had that scene yet. I hope it wasn't a behind the scenes one.

Unfortunately, I had my brother visiting who doesn't really get the whole 'this is the penultimate episode of something I really like' and was a little distracting at the end but by that point I was most of the way through a large bottle of cider and feeling too mellow to get too grumpy at him.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I vote for the 2nd one :P I don't expect a happy ending, but I would've probably never forgive the writers if Merlin stayed as Emrys in the final episode....so thank you again for that tiny ray of hope :D

    ReplyDelete
  19. it's okay not a problem at all... Thanks for everything :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. That photo, if it's the one I'm thinking of, is a behind the scenes one. Not entirely sure when it was taken, but it's not from Part 2 I'm afraid, but I can confirm that Merlin isn't Emrys for the whole of the finale.

    ReplyDelete
  21. It's okay, I had to try :) I can just hope I'm wrong about this one. Thanks for answering anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  22. What a relief, that young Merlin will still be there. Thanks for clarifying!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Do ayou not think that they are just doing it deliberately - misleading people so the tension will grow even further?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hmm, have you seen the sneak peek? I think that's why they have done it in the main, so people don't know who he is in the battle.

    ReplyDelete
  25. It was lo´vely to see Balinor again, and under such grave circumstances. How nice for once for Merlin to know that his father is always there with him and for him, being as timeless as he is himself.

    ReplyDelete
  26. pardon me but did iI hurt you in any way??

    ReplyDelete
  27. I personally loved it, but I'm a bit nervous about the next episode. I mean, I loved Dragoon in s3, but I don't want Merlin stuck as him forever. I'm quite relieved that he won't be, according to Sandi.

My main qualms with it though, were three things:

One, Gwaine's "girlfriend." Can we not have one female character that is NOT evil or does NOT die?

Two, the slight lack of reaction of Morgana over finding out that Merlin is Emrys. I mean, I understand we're to believe time has passed where Morgana has probably had some kind of a fit/revelation/tantrum, but it still would have been nice to see a scene or two where she lost it. Although I really did love the Morgana trapping Merlin in a cave scene.

Three, what kind of a "next time" trailer was that? That gave us almost nothing. NOTHING. Ok, yes it had "I have magic" and all of that, but we already knew that. They couldn't have given us one scene. Thank goodness it's only two days until the second part.

Oh, wow, that made it seem a bit like I didn't like the episode. I really did though. Loved the bromance moments, Morgana and Mordred performing various dastardly deeds, the whole "I've lost my magic thing" wasn't actually as bad as I thought it was going to be, quite enjoyable really. Oh, and the cave scene with Morgana, the subsequent scream, and the Balinor/crystal gazing/ informing Arthur part.

Lastly, the actors really shined. They always do of course, but it seemed everyone was given something solid to work with.

Nervous/ridiculously excited/heartbroken for the next episode. Thanks for the small spoilers Sandi, don't know what I'd do without them!

  28. I think it is important to us that Merlin tells Arthur in his young form who he really is. We have seen them together for 5 years like this (and that final comedy scene was juut so lovely, even sweeter because weknow this is the last one). So that reveal has to fit in with that.

    ReplyDelete
  29. True, besides Arthur already knows Emrys/Dragoon and that he has magic, so it makes more sense if is our Merlin saying those words.....ugh....two days seem like a long time now.....can I use one of those crystals to see the episode? (and can I say how happy I am that Merlin finally knows how to use them? :D)

  30. My condolences for being amongst a crowd not totally appreciating the 'utter importance' of this episode. I expercience the same in my house all the time and understand the sentiment!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'm currently watching it, but I am really, really angry. Did the writers have nothing better to do than basically copying T.A. Barron's "The Fires of Merlin"? In this part of the "Lost years of Merlin" series, there are creatures called Kreelix who can drain magic and before getting his magic back, Merlin gets the exact same pep talk Balinor gave him in the episode just now. How is that not plagiarism???

  33. The creature that drained his magic is rooted in legend, not copied from someone else.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Then could you please tell me where to find it in the Arthurian Legend(s)? And how about Balinor's speech about how magic is part of who Merlin is and that he can't lose it? That's in T.A. Barron's book too.

  35. Do you not think that the slug is more like Doomraga (Book 2 in The Dragon trilogy).

    ReplyDelete
  36. I don't understand. Arthur and the knights know who Dragoon is. Morgana knows. Who of any importance doesn't know who Dragoon is? Are you saying that if there is a young Merlin reveal, it won't be to everyone? Or can you not answer that? I did see the sneak peek. Looks impressive. I am confused!

  37. Two days ARE a long time :)

  38. My Mum and sister were ordering a takeaway while I was trying to watch and speaking really really loudly about Strictly. I came close to committing violence.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I have two issues with this episode...
    1) It's the second last episode and I want more.
    2) We have to wait two days for the next episode

    ReplyDelete
  40. The trailer edit was terrible because it really did make it seem to all of us that "Old" Merlin was the way he was supposed to be, which would be just a tad depressing for all of us. How's Merlin ever going to get lucky then???

    ReplyDelete
  41. Yeah, I just added the scene to the article. And suddenly, there's quite a lot of them;)

  42. Ok so the next only part for the msg iI got was just the first two words, and i get notifications in my in box and reply from my email. It is only now iI see the other part of your msg, and it is good that iI saw it cause iI had already gotten your intentions totally wrong. iI understand what you mean, ie. that what iI asked is not top priority and iI agree with you, i. e that there are more important matters, but unfortunately iI started watching Merlin purely because of Arwen, and so no matter what is at stake, their fate will always remain what interests me most. you may not really understand what iI mean, only die-hard Arwen fans like me will understand... but that is how iI feel. The only thing iI expect other fans to do is respect my opinion like iI respect theirs. iI do not agree or understand the bromance thing at all, but i let the supporters dream just like iI dream of Arwen without making them feel as if what they are after is not important... get what iI mean?

  43. Thanks! Its nice to know I'm not the only one. I'm temporarily without a housemate so I've gotten used to the luxury of watching it without interruption and it was so annoying! I'm also a little annoyed they moved the finale to Monday to be honest. The 29th is my birthday and I can do whatever I want including watching it in peace in my flat, but Monday I'll be at my parents who also don't watch Merlin (and relegated to the spare TV knowing my luck). :(

    ReplyDelete
  44. You have more patience than me. I'd be telling them to shut up very firmly!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I remember when I first saw it that it looked like a behind the scenes photo. It was my beacon of hope whenever there was an interview or spoiler that hinted at a sad ending. I've slowly come to accept that it isn't going to be sunshine and roses so I'm not too disappointed its not from the episode. Thanks for confirming that Merlin isn't Emrys for the whole episode, that'll make the next two days a lot more bearable.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Is it me or does Gwaine's girlfriend look like she could be Bradley's (Arthur) sister in real life?

    ReplyDelete
  47. he is old merlin emrys probably like sandi said so they dont know who he is because i still think they he isnt comfortable enough to use his magic infront of the knights of camelot yet even though morgana knows and couls spill the beans.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Yes, both points are unacceptable, we should do something about this....maybe I'll just go to sleep and wake up in a couple of days, that'll resolve one of the points at least :P

    ReplyDelete
  49. LOL. I do feel for you!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Sorry, Janette if my comment sounded a bit off to you. I think I went a bit frantic posting last night - too much excitement....:)
The beauty of Merlin has always been that it appeals to so many different people in so many different ways. We all take different things from it that make us happy! I have no problems with that!

    ReplyDelete
  51. yes initially it did because I only got the first line/two words, but its ok don't worry. I cannot imagine how tragic I will be tomorrow night after I see the finale... probably crying all the way through Christmas Day... but anyways... I agree, that is one of the beauties of Merlin, and we'll leave it at that :)

    ReplyDelete
  52. As Dave says only Morgana and Mordred know that Emrys is Merlin, Arthur and the knights are in the dark about his identity.
