  1. Like you said earlier, Sandi, Alator was powerless. He actually seemed to have lost his magic. No resistance to Morgana whatever. Still he did not give away Merlin.
I am sure by tomorrow, once I have thought through this, I will find a couple of things that are irritating. On a first viewing I gave this episode an 'awesome' though.
I loved Merlin being acknowledged by other magic people. I loved Kilgarrah saving Merlin and felt genuinely moved by his speech.
I thought it was a bit funny that the knights were so overprotectice towards Merlin. AND that Gauis told Arthur where to find Finna. I know he acted out of worry and guilt but still - that seems out of character, giving a magical person away that has done no harm whatsoever. How would he have felt had she been burnt at the stake?
Colin will never fail to amaze me. Merlin's pain, his worry, his determination and frustration - I can actuakky feel it watching him. Well, he has now been told that the prophecy predicts that Arthur will die - but Finna said that he is the only one who can prevent it - is this not slightly confusing?
As for the trailer- YES! Mordred was sooo angry with Merlin. Awesome.

  2. So yeah, it was definitely a filler. But I did like it, it was okay. Some small steps forward. It was also the last episode of friendship for Arthur&Mordred, ahh.. It's making me so sad. And this prophecy!
It's so not okay to with the fact that everyone basically gave up on Mordred, didn't even give him a chance because of something he hasn't even done yet. I just wish somebody tried to save him from his fate, I just wish someone would have saved Morgana... I know, it's been a long time. But it's still hard to accept what happened to her. Seeing her today, killing a man without hesitation and everything else, it hits me. Every time.

It was so nice to see people who know the truth about Merlin and they respect him, they're willing to die for him. Too bad, none of them seem to have a chance to get through the episode. Also, even for our Great Dragon time is running out. Everything is ending. It's so hard to say goodbye.

I was really hoping that in the box will be sth that could help everyone, but nope. That's just the prophecy. A very bad one! Still not giving up though, I mean future can be changed, especially if you know it, right?

On not so serious side now:)
I was so glad Arthur got like one episode where people are not trying to kill. There was a lot of talk about it, also the war declaration at the end, but still... I'll take what I can get.
And all those lovely scenes where Arthur's being super nice to Gwen after everything they've been through. And how nice of them, to always invite Merlin for their picnic ;)
    Plus "My idea" LOL, Arthur!

Well, I'm sure I'm missing a lot right now, but that's just my current thoughts about the episode.
Can't wait for next one, but I'm pretty scared of it too.

  3. Very confusing indeed. It's like one second they're reading the prophecy saying Arthur will definitely die and the next one "You will not fail Merlin".
But hey, at least that gives me hope. :)

  4. two things really hit me in this episode, and by "hit me" I mean left me staring at the screen for some seconds... the first instance was when Finna killed herself... my my I was shocked and very very sad... but the saddest moment was when Kilgarrah did not answer Merlin's question on whether he would see him again...

  5. Had to smile about your point on the trio: It is soo true. They always go out in a threesome - I know Arthur said before that 'Merlin does not count' BUT, hiding behind a curtain when Arthur and Gwen having ´breakfast in bed???? One does wonder :D

  6. Hope is exactly what we need at this point!

  7. I enjoyed this episode, but it was a little disappointing as it didn't really go anywhere. Just building up the next few episodes and considering this is the last series I can't say I care for episodes like that anymore!

I did think that they were getting a lot darker. Finna killing herself? Morgana callously killing Alator by snapping his neck? I'm surprised it wasn't on a bit later to be honest! I didn't appreciate the Great Dragon reset button although I thought the hint that the dragon won't be around much longer was interesting.

A couple of things I did appreciate were the banter between Merlin and Arthur, the Knights being protective of Merlin and I loved the scenes Merlin and Gaius shared. I thought they were very well written and acted.

  8. Actually, I thought Gaius was being very clever and totally in character. He knows Merlin so well that he knew he'd sneak out to see Finna, by telling Arthur about her he ensured that Merlin would not be alone if she betrayed him. As it turns out, she wasn't going to betray him and Gaius's actions probably caused more harm than good but he acted out of concern for Merlin.

  9. I agree with you on Mordred. If no one had ever told Merlin that Arthur was destined to die in Mordred's hand, he would've helped Mordred and he wouldn't hate him like he does, for something he didn't do yet.

Same with Morgana, he didn't help her because the dragon told him that she'd be evil, so the way I see it, Merlin is responsible (to an extent) for the way she turned out to be, as he'll be responsible for what Mordred will do, because he didn't help them like he does any other person. And ultimately, his actions will lead to Arthur's doom.

I don't know if any of this makes sense, but just look at the episode "The Crystal Cave", Merlin was shown a vision, he tried to prevent it, when in fact he made it happen with his actions.

I know, I'm overthinking it, oh well, 3 more to go....

  10. I loved this episode. It was awesome. I don't think it was a filler. It did move things forward in the sense that we see Merlin is truly aknowledged by poeple especially by the poeple with magic. I loved the emotional scenes between Merlin and Gaius, Merlin and Kilgharrah and Merlin and Finna. Colin Morgan does a so amazing work showing all the emotions in his eyes! I also loved Merlin being so epic in the forest, with his magic and his sword. Wonderful episode!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Oh, it makes perfect sense to me;) If you're overthinking this, then definitely so am I.
I'm sure even Merlin knows that unfortunately he did play the part in Morgana's change. And as much as I love him, he did make a few really bad mistakes (but then again, who hasn't?).
It's just one of these things we can't change, but they're always gonna haunt me. Especially after watching deleted scene from 5.06 "I could have saved her" and Merlin's reactions in it.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Well, that's the bad thing, he knows he made a mistake with Morgana, and he's doing it again with Mordred, so it seems he hasn't learn from that mistake. His will to protect Arthur has made him blind to everything else, including his desire to bring magic back to Camelot.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Yes, unfortunately that's also true. That's why I'm so angry about all this situation with Mordred. I really like him, but I guess...he never stood a chance, not really.

  14. The scene with Kilgharrah at the end was heart breaking...

    ReplyDelete
  15. Well, one thing they did good this season is Mordred storyline, because a lot of people are taking his side, which is good because we can sympathize with him when he turns "evil", and it's also bad because is making me dislike some of Arthur and Merlin's decisions, and they're supposed to be the "heroes"!

I hope everybody gets redemption in the end, wishful thinking, I know...or Christmas wish?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Yes, I share your wish! I know it's more than difficult but I would give so much to see everyone getting redemption at the end. Or at least someone.

    ReplyDelete
  17. It's not really getting darker...not as long as the consequences are getting glossed over. Gwen killed someone in her bewitched state, but is now all smiling again..the last episode might as well not happened at all. Same with Alator...what's the point of building up his character in one of the view really good episodes of last season, when in the end, he simply gets killed. As long as you can take out every episode with no difference to the plot at all (because Arthur is still hunting magic users, Merlin is still hiding, Morgana is still plotting pointless schemes and otherwise), and we don't really get to see the pain of the people involved (aside from Merlin). The "Last Dragonlord" episode, when they menitoned how many people were killed by the dragon because of Merlin's decision to set him free was much darker than this casual killing left and right with no emotional consequence whatever.

  18. :) My favorite episode of the season i think. I loved everything about it.

    ReplyDelete
  19. You're right, I probably should have said darker *scenes* instead, overall its still a family show and not that dark. I think in previous series we would have got Morgana finding Finna's body rather than her killing herself in front of Morgana (even though it was hardly graphic). I agree with you about the continuity. One of the things that bugged me about last episode was that we never got to see if Gwen remembered her time when she was enchanted. She killed a man and nearly killed Merlin, there has to be fallout if she does remember and even if she doesn't there ought to be some misplaced guilt surrounding her actions but like you said, its as if the episodes didn't happen.

  20. Completely agree with this, if anything is Arthur's bane at this point in the show then I'd have to say it was Merlin. He does nothing to help Mordred become a better person, in fact has done nothing but treat him with disdain and mistrust ever since he became a knight. I wish they had explored this relationship between the two of them more this season; Merlin just comes off as a spoilt brat at times, repeating the same mantra over and over no matter how many time Mordred has proved himself .

  21. This could have been a fantastic episode, I was really looking forward to seeing Alator back in Camelot, but ended up being saddened by his complete rewrite of a character. Not only did he have no magic to really speak of, but he let himself be found out very easily for someone who is used to breaking others silences. Why did he not destroy that note with Finna's name on? It just seemed very lax that he would have left evidence lying around whilst at the same time be so confident that Merlin would never be discovered. In fact, why did Finna put her name (or Emrys's) on it at all? She sent the crow to Morgana Pendragon's, so she knew that Alator was captured there, yet took no pains to code her message.

I also thought that the ambiguity of Finna's intentions early on in the episode were very clunky too. I don't really see what it brought to the plot if I'm honest, I'm kinda fed up of Gaius being proven wrong. How the heck he can continue not to trust Merlin's instincts is beyond me, it's been 10 years of Merlin being right every time, when's he going to trust the guy??

So we have the knights, Morgana and the Saxons, and some random bandits all traipsing around the forest at once looking for Finna and Emrys. They all seem to be within a pretty close range at all times, and both hunting parties have great tracking/magic skills, yet they spend most of the time just missing each other.

Talking of the knights, when we last see them they are hunting for Finna and her mystery accomplice, next time we see them they have brought a disfigured body back to Gaius. In true Merlin style, they have forgotten all about Finna and she is never mentioned again, not even as the person who possible did this before Gaius fills them in. Then again, if Gwen can kill people in cold blood and then feel no remorse once the curse if lifted, I dunno why this bothers me 9_9

  22. The best part was Merlin talking with his friend the Dragon.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'd agree with you there, very sad and ominous

    ReplyDelete
  24. I was thinking the same, Arthur's bane is Merlin now, in fact I think that "he's your destiny and he's your doom" applies to both Morgana and Arthur.

I have a feeling I won't like Merlin too much in ep 11, but I hope I don't end up hating him when the show ends, well, I could never hate him, but let just say that I don't want to break my TV on christmas, unless someone gives me a bigger one :P

    ReplyDelete
  25. There's so much I want to say about ep 11 and can't, it's very frustrating in many ways, lol :( I don't think you will hate Merlin, his decisions are understandable throughout, although slightly...hmmmmm, misguided but with good intentions towards the end.

  26. I know you are right, LOL. Still could not help really liking the episode. I guess it is heart over brain....

    ReplyDelete
  27. I still wonder about Mordred turning evil. Will he really be evil or will there be .... something else?

    ReplyDelete
  28. I liked it more the second time I watched it, the first time was hours after hearing the news that this was the last season. I really did feel that the episode would have been better served earlier on in the season, or even last year. The second time I watched it the actors won me over I think and I was able to not worry so much about the lil niggles. As you say, heart over brain won out in the end, but there's still a frustration at what this episode could have been, lol.

  29. I don't think he'll become like "Morgana" evil, I think he'll be hurt and he'll want vengeance for what happens. At this point, his actions will be more justified than Morgana's...I want to see episode 11 now!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Thank you for that! I know he always tries to do the right thing, and that he has the best intentions, but sometimes a lot of bad things happen in the process...still, I'll never hate Merlin :D

  31. I think I'm going to enjoy S5 more once it's all over, when I have no further expectations...

    ReplyDelete
  32. lol, I think you could be right

    ReplyDelete
  33. I love this episode, but it was lack of some interesting things that i expected. Anyway, Merlin is still great and i love him :)

  34. I've loved the series... Yet, this season seems rushed and there are
so many plot holes. How many times this season has Morgana been
helpless and yet was just not finished off?

As of right now many people have died to help Merlin and Arthur

establish Albion, where those with magic can live in peace. Yet
every choice Merlin has made has stopped that from happening.
Three episodes left and Merlin has not even been honest with
Arthur yet...At this point why would Merlin even be remembered
as a Wizard since everyone knows he is a servant who seems to
spend far too much time in a Tavern.

I would have loved a scene where Merlin actually talked with Morgana.
The small dragon sees something to love in her and Merlin might

have reached that part of her. Of course in Legend Morgana is one
of the three ladies who takes a dying Arthur to Avalon where he can
heal until the day of Britain's greatest danger where the Once and
Future King will be needed again.

Right now instead of being High King of Britain against the Saxon

invasion Arthur is just one of a group of petty kings as the Saxon
    tide sweeps across the land.

-As I said I love the show I just think this season has not lived up to
    its potential for storytelling.
