According to The Hollywood Reporter, The CW is developing Sherwood, which has received a script commitment at the network.
Sherwood is an hourlong period drama with a female slant set in 1072 England and revolves around a young noblewoman who sets out to free her serf boyfriend, who has been wrongfully imprisoned by ruthless Norman occupiers. Seeing help from the vanished Robin of Locksley, she inadvertently reunites -- and joins -- the fabled Robin Hood and his Merry Men, inspiring new hope for the oppressed people of Nottingham.
Tze Chun (Cashmere Mafia) will pen the script, which hails from CBS Television Studios. Oscar-winning American Beauty producer Dan Jinks, who produced the CW's short-lived Emily Owens, M.D., will executive produce.

let me guess there will be a love triangle between the this "young woman", robin hood and her boyfriend
ReplyDeletehow many archery shows can one network have?
ReplyDeleteCan't blame CW for trying to get more shows like those that work when a lot doesn't.
ReplyDeleteMore genre shows like this and Arrow, less Carrie Diaries bullshit.
ReplyDeleteI rather have this than another GG copy.
ReplyDelete..Robin hood really, common must be crazy you want a combination of Grimm and Once upon a time in which era medieval or 21 century we had ARROW is a good show leave robin in a book we already saw in movies thats it
ReplyDeleteRobin Hood makes for a great series, or at least the material CAN be a good series. If done correctly.
ReplyDeleteSome Robin Hood movies and series succeed and some fail, but there has not been a Robin Hood series in the US for more than 20 years I think... Showtime had Robin of Sherwood with Sean Connery's son Jason Connery in the title role... and of course a few movie versions have happened since then.
I think it's the perfect series for CW honestly.
Superhero shows can have a limited audience and period dramas or Fantasy Adventure series can maybe pick up a wider or different audience. Plus Robin Hood by the nature of the story does not require huge battle or a ton of expensive special effects like many 'medieval' series do.
I need to hear some casting news before I am excited, but this has some serious potential!
Sounds like a future cancellation. They could have brought back The LA Complex and maybe promote it a little better!
ReplyDeleteGood for them. Hero shows are doing far better for them than the tired soapy teen dramas. Here's hoping them success.
ReplyDeleteanother archery show sounds rather redundant, but I get that the tone could be very differnet.
ReplyDeleteNot ever really a fan of Robin Hood even when I like the setup, and I think this story is not going to focus on the few aspects I personally like.
I completely agree with the direction the CW is going in with all of these genre shows but they have to be careful not to over-load the network with too many because one day, genre shows like this will not be popular anymore, just like a few years ago shows like GG and 90210 were very popular and now 0.7-1.2 million watch them!
ReplyDeleteI just have to correct you about Robin of Sherwood, because I love this great british series with the original Robin Hood so much. I hope you won't mind.:-) The original Robin Hood (Robin of Loxsley) was played by Michael Praed, his successor as Robin Hood (Robert of Huntingdon) was played by Jason Connery. The show was never as good with Jason as it was in the first two seasons with Michael in the title role, IMO. I am not saying that it was entirely Jason's fault (there were many reasons), but for me he just didn't have the skills, charisma or looks of Michael, so to me saying he was the Robin Hood of this series is almost blasphemous.;-)
ReplyDelete~ "Robin Hood makes for a great series, or at least the material CAN be a good series. If done correctly." ~
ReplyDeleteWonderfully said!!!
I do vaguely recall that now!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the correction. XD
I don't think I ever saw the entire series honestly. We got Showtime when Connery was the lead so I missed the earlier seasons. I did see some reruns and recall wondering why there was a different actor playing Robin. XD
Honestly I barely recall anything about that series other than it was in the mid-80s.....
I was the first to doubt Arrow, so this time they will get a freebie. :p But for CW it would be the best to work on originality and/or quality and not on teen dramas whose basic premises is love triangle .
ReplyDeleteI Think that the CW need to explore other genres, like other other legends, other hero for a new show... We have a man with arrows on the channel. So, surprise me CW... :)
ReplyDeleteStay away from English folklore CW, and especially do not tarnish it with your trite 'female slant.'
ReplyDeleteI hope this never makes it past the script stage.
Surely a square if you count maid Marian.
ReplyDeleteHope not.... but there's a lot of good actresses whose shows have been cancelled (or are close to it) that I hope they look at for roles.
ReplyDeleteIn other words, Arrow is a success so they want to make something incredibly similar.
ReplyDeleteseems way to ambitious for CW
ReplyDeleteanyone else remember the BBC kids comedy show Maid Marion? Where Robin was a wuss and Marion was kick ass?
This one I dont see going past script stage.
