BIRKHOFF TELLS NIKITA ABOUT SONYA — Birkhoff (Aaron Stanford) tells Nikita (Maggie Q) that Sonya (guest star Lyndie Greenwood) is Amanda’s (Melinda Clarke) mole and not only has Amanda reactivated Sonya’s kill chip but she also placed a second mole in Division to keep an eye on her. Nikita, Michael (Shane West) and Ryan (Noah Bean) devise a plan to use Sonya to ferret out Amanda’s hiding place and Birkhoff sets a trap for the second mole. Meanwhile, Michael confronts Alex (Lyndsy Fonseca) about her drug use and she begs him not to tell Nikita. Dwight Little directed the episode written by Michael Brandon Guercio (#307).

Excited to be getting news again. I'm super happy Alex's relapse isn't going to be a secret much longer (at least not from everyone). I was a little worried they were going to drag it out forever and have her lie to all her friends for half the season or something. I want Alex to continue to struggle with it, but I didn't want to see the deception last forever. And it's petty of me, I fully admit it, but I'm happy it's Michael and not Owen that's noticing and confronting Alex on drug use. I was gonna barf if the writers pandered to the shippers over that one, especially after the cheesy as f- slo mo butterfly reveal (having them notice didn't bother me, the way it was shot made me roll my eyes). I think it makes sense that Michael, as former head trainer for an organization that trained many a former junkie, would be experienced in spotting troubling behavior in his recruits.

ReplyDelete*shrug* To each their own. I think it would have played better if they'd had Alex walk away at normal speed and still had Owen notice and smile. The slomo reminded me of the sepia toned flash backs of Alex and Thom when Thom was dying. There are just certain things in cinematography that feel like the director is hand holding the audience like they're too dumb to get it otherwise. Nikita doesn't do it often, but when it happens, it's really jarring. I like Owen and Alex as friends. I might even, under the right circumstances, be OK with them as a couple (although I really don't think the writers are going there). But smacking me in the head with heavy and clumsy anvils is *not* the right way to get me to care.
