    No not really. No correlation with Downloads and cancellation. Most of the Downloads are outside the USA.

    Plus some of those shows on the list are some of the highest rated shows.
    Dexter for example recently beat it's tv ratings ratings.

    It been proven that piracy increases sales. And the main reason that good shows get canceled is because the people in the u.s. rather watch "reality tv" than good tv shows!!!

    i dont download the shows, i just stream from various sites and watch live on streamtv. but because i love the walking dead, i watch it on the friday too

    People talk about pirating and how it damages shows but if it wasn't for pirating I would not have gotten into half the shows I watch because the UK either doesn't air them or are seasons behind. Once the DVDs eventually come out I 9/10 buy them or get the R1 import.


    Until the networks and sites like Netflix/Hulu allow for non US people to view their sites (and sit through ads I wouldn't mind) it will continue this way.

    I must say I'm helping the statistics go up for several of those shows. But I'm not in the US, so I guess I can't be blamed for shows doing well or not in ratings.

    I think most downloads are from outside US, I live in the Netherlands I watch everything on streaming sites, or download it. There's no legal streaming site, iTunes doesn't offer tv-shows here, and most shows aren't on tv. I think that's the biggest reason why downloads are mostly downloaded outside US is because there are no ways to watch it legally.

    The reason good shows gets cancelled, is because of the US always relying on the "Nielsen" system, which doesn't take into account modern day technologies like, DVRs. Or for that matter, the Internet. Imagine the ratings numbers, if they would live-air the tv shows onto the Internet?

    Bottomline, Piracy is not the cause of tv shows (or anything else for that matter) to get shut down. Corporate entities such as FOX, CBS etc still get their money.

    I'm agree with you. People from outside U.S. aren't potential viewers so downloading of this shows can't do anythyng bad for u.s. tv companies. I'm living in Russia, 99% of our tv is full of crap and if we get lucky the other one percent will be a U.S. tv show but with crappy russian dubbing. I'll hope somewhere in the future I'll get a chance to buy tv shows on Itunes or on Blu-rays here in Russia.

    Live-airing is not the way to go. TV-viewers to day is more and more used to be able to watch a show, whenever they want. Not 8, 9, 10 or 11 a clock during the evening, right before work the next morning.

    I've been downloading shows for almost 4 years and to this day I still don't know how Torrent works. The reason that I download is because I don't have the patience to wait 2 years before I can finally watch it (gotta love Belgium)
    example: they recently stopped half way through Gossip Girl season 3 (which they were show for the first time)

    Even in the US things like DVR, iTunes purchases, and online views(Hulu/Network site/etc.) do not contribute to the ratings that matter. Watching any of the shows I download Live will do nothing to boost their ratings.

    Keep in mind that watching Live in the US does not actually help the ratings of a show either.

    Yeah I'm from Belgium too and damn we are late on everything....especially in Wallonie....

    PS : (en espérant que tu parles Français :D) Pour les torrents je comprenais rien du tout au début puis j'ai un peu tâtonner et maintenant c'est vraiment super facile! Je désespérais avec la fin de Megaupload mais finalement les torrents c'est 20000 fois plus rapide et mieux que n'importe quels autres moyens de téléchargement!

    I have no other way to watch the shows than via internet. If I were to wait for my country's tv to air them I'd have to wait from about half a year to forever because some of the tv shows are not airing in Poland. When they actually do air, I usually watch them. But I won't wait that long to see sth that I can watch livestream just hours after the US.

    I live in the US now and the only shows I download are my old UK shows they don't even get shown here that I miss and would not even get to see otherwise. I see no harm in that or vice versa when that is the only way to get to see the shows.

    Sometimes if you want watch some TV show only way is download. Because in Lithuania we get after half year late in best case scenario, usally after 1 - 1,5 year if they planning airing some Tv show. But if you like genre show you may not get at all. For eg. Firefly and Dr. Who never aired, Fringe one year ago aired first 2 season and now is good question or airs more, Supernatural in september started 5 season and aired only first 8 episodes..., OUAT and Grimm i don't think in my country we get any time soon, Lost starded 6 season, from people who wacthed i heard that never finished. Sometimes television just stops airing some shows: Burn Notice, NCIS, Criminal Minds.

    We are downloading shows, because we can't watch them legally.

    And here in Russia we even have professional dubbing studios. They are translating and dubbung shows(voiceover) just in couple of days after US air date.

    I'm watching new shows with eng.subs, but for people who don't..

    Yes, we are downloading all new and old shows from torrents, but just because we don't have DVD's(okay maybe 20-30 shows) or something else with good selection.

    That the problem. We are all people, we want watch good TV, but exept for US and Canada all other countries getting shows waaay after air date, but if i know English why i can't watch that on the internet?

    International downloading doesn't affect US ratings, and international sale of shows if a pittance compared to the advertising revenue in the US so I don't think it matters a lot to US networks. International networks aren't happy about it, but considering they don't show half the shows and Australian networks for example are inconsistent in broadcasts, often delayed by weeks to months then delayed further due to some stupid sporting event.


    Arrow for example is just starting here in Australia, so anyone watching it on Australian TV is months behind the vast majority of fan discussion/spoilers etc. And Australian networks make Fox in the US look good as far as cancelling shows.


    Another point is that fans of TV shows in the US that don't air in their countries will often still buy merchandise/dvds etc that support the show, even though they're downloading it.


    My personal opinion is that TV piracy is a completely different issue to movie/music/game piracy which is why tv exclusive sites seem to fly under the radar compared to others... and some show runners/cast members have made tongue in cheek jokes in support of fans downloading their shows.

    IMHO -- and this has nothing to do with the legality as it stands today -- once it's been aired, it's fair game.

    I live in the US and refuse to play the cable/subscription TV game. To be morally on the up and up, I've chosen to hold off and wait for the DVDs. But until I can subscribe to a channel or service at a reasonable rate, I'll hold off.

    As a sports fan, this drives me nuts because more and more, sports are heading to cable. Now I have to pay money to watch my local baseball team play on TV or at all. Worst part is, part of my taxes went to building the stadium they play in. Seems like part of that stadium deal should include free access to their broadcasts shouldn't it?

    I'm old school though. I saw Les Miserables last night and was tempted to demand a full refund on account of the 15 minutes of commercials and ads I sat through. They got paid for that. Why is my ticket still 10 bucks?
