How I Met Your Mother - Season 9 - Official renewal next week, most likely final season

How I Met Your Mother, currently in its eighth season on CBS, is nearing a deal for a ninth and most likely final run to air during the 2013-14 season. News of a pickup was announced with a Saturday tweet from the series' production account, but The Hollywood Reporter has since learned that the green light most likely won't come until after the Christmas holiday weekend. Representatives from the network and 20th Century Fox Television could not confirm.

    I'm fine with season nine being it, tbh. I just didn't want to lose it next year because I'm already losing so many shows in 2013.



    I'm hoping and thinking B/R will marry in May, and Ted will meet and date The Mother next season.

    Well it is renewed, but it wasn't yet confirmed it was the final season. The title of this article should reflect that, in it's current state it is misleading. :)

    Well, I'm losing Leverage on Tuesday (still counts), then Private Practice, The Office, and 666 Park Avenue, probably among a few others, next year.

    Yes, this gives me more positive views on this renewal I'm so happy that this show will get one more season. It's good cause they don't want to rush things with the mother so a ninth season is good for that reason. They better not mess with my bbs or I will cut someone.

    Yup, I'm thinking we're going to lose HIMYM and GA in 2014, which is fine. Nine and tenth seasons are okay with me, tbh.

    when we are on 666 park do you have any idea of why abc would wait to summer 2013 to air only the 4 last episodes?

    I'm glad they're not going to rush things, but at the same time I hope we meet the mother this season in flash forwards and learn more about her next season because it feels like the shows spent so long with ted pinning for robin that this girl has to be something spectacular to be able to compete with that.

    Nice! A final 9th season is all that the show needs, a season that's gonna be finalize the story if the show was finalized this season they would have to rush things and this wouldn't be good!

    hmmm. I sort of thought Grey's was being groomed to pull an ER. You know, rotating in new characters, fans responding well to them and then one by one you start to lose the older cast. Despite the name of the show, I certainly think it could go on should Dempsey or Pompeo or anyone else decide to leave. It still does quite well in the ratings and ABC has had a lot of trouble with their Thursday dramas for years, except for Grey's. I;m not convinced it is going to be cancelled anytime soon.

    I hope season 9 is the final season, that way they can finish the way they want (instead of getting canceled out of the blue)
