How I Met Your Mother - Renewed for ninth season
Dec 22, 2012
How I Met Your Mother
Now HIMYM‘s 9th season is secure even if the network and the studio and the cast are keeping mum right now. (Meanwhile I stopped watching after Season 2 because I can’t stand not knowing who the mom is, dammit.) Of course there was drama aplenty culminating today when all the cast deals closed after hard work by agents and managers and lawyers and executives and after an 11th hour turnaround of Jason Segel who was set on bailing.

Oh thank God.
ReplyDeletedoes this mean we won't get a chance to meet the mother this season? -_-
ReplyDeleteKind of happy but also worried about this. Hope it's not dragged out even more. I'd love if Barney/Robin were married this season, Ted meets the mother beginning of season 9 and the rest of the season focuses on Ted/The mother with Barney/Robin and Marshall/Lily marriages as mosty B stories.
ReplyDeleteHopefully this means we get to meet the mother still at the end of the season then find out why Ted falls in love with her next season.
ReplyDeleteI think it's great that HIMYM is getting a 9th season, gives us much more insight into the Mother and B/R's after wedding relationship. Though if Jason Segel bails, there shouldn't be a 9th season. Its not HIMYM without anyone from the gang
ReplyDeleteI think that's very nice! I think that would be great if we saw the mother in the end of this season and in the next we could see their relationship and of course how B/R are in their married's life
ReplyDeleteNOOOOOOO!!!! Ted was standing 5 meters away from her!!!! How is he not ganna meet her? The Season 8 final scene is going to be her siting next to Ted? What the hell??!!
ReplyDeleteI love this show very much; it's one of my favourites alongside Community, White Collar and Castle but it MUST END ALLREADY!!!
How much more can you streach a show like this? The only posible way is that Ted meets the mother by the end of Season 8 or that they will introduce two or three female characters that all the others except Ted will relate with making the viewer realize wich one is the mother...
Season 8 was a perfect Season to end this... I just wish they don't F**k up the show.
Well, Ted could still meet her at the wedding and date her next season.
ReplyDeleteGreat Xmas gift :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting Klutzy_girl!
Please let it be the last. As a fan of the show, I'm ready for it to approach its end instead of dragging its feet.
ReplyDeleteThey need to introduce the mother this season, the stalling is now beyond historic at this point. Show us the dam Mother already!!!
ReplyDeleteoh god no :(
ReplyDeleteI was hoping S8 would be the last just to get some Cobie in SHIELD.
ReplyDeleteYeah.... a lot of people are predicting they'll reveal the mum at the end of this
ReplyDeleteseason and next season finale (presumably end of the show) will be their wedding... of course, it's the bits between those events that's over half the show. Of course, if the producers/writers know what people are predicting they may come up with something different.
I had always planned to watch this whole show after the finale. I came to that decision at the end of season 1 because I had so much crap to watch. But NINE SEASONS?!!?! Of a guy telling his kids how he met their mother?! Um no. I'm seen a couple of seasons out of all the subsequent seasons and I can't say they've been impressive, and now that this show is going to be as old as The X-Files, I can't say I'll ever find out, know, or care who their fudging mother is. CBS, this show should have ended four seasons ago. No wonder I don't watch you. Either you keep a show until it's shelf life has expired by several years or you cancel it prematurely. Ugh. UGH. UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSo tired of all the people complaining about wanting to meet the mother.... The show is NOT about the mother. It's about Ted and the events surrounding 5 friends that led up to Ted meeting her. It's about the journey to the event (of meeting the mother) and not the event itself.
ReplyDeleteThe show has never been and will never be a mystery about the identity of the mother of Ted's children. The mother is nothing more than a vehicle for storytelling. How do people not get that?
The mother is almost completely irrelevant to the series.
The series has gone down hill in the last few years (although I still think it is better than 90% of the sitcoms on TV).
ReplyDeleteI think if Partners would have become a hit CBS may not have felt the need to have one more year. One more year gives them another chance to find a hit to fill the spot soon to be vacated by HIMYM and keep their sitcom domination alive
I hope they'll stick to the (I suppose) plan and Ted met the mother at Barney & Robin's wedding at the end of this season. So the ninth would be something like "How I Get Your Mother". Could be interesting to see.
ReplyDeleteI honestly doubt that would happen. Cobie's said that after HIMYM ends, she's moving to New York with her husband.
ReplyDeleteI think that's great. If the show would end after this season it would have felt rushed. Now they can prepare with all they have for a good ending of the show and all the stories.
ReplyDeleteAlso now they have the possibility to introduce the mother, which I would prefer instead of just showing her to us in one episode.
Oh btw, Sarah Michelle Gellar should totally play the mother.
Oh man, this really sucks if they drag the meet out another year. If we actually do meet her in this season's finale, and next season is about them dating (and actually changes the show about a bit) then it may be worth a watch. (We could see a repeat of Season 2, since Barney and Robin are now engaged. So why wouldn't the season finale be at their wedding.)
ReplyDeleteI'm not complaining about "oh the mother is the important bit of this show", it's that this show has been spinning its wheels for far too long, and is less and less funny each season. Changing it up a little could rejuvenate it, and could bring the laughs back that made the first few seasons really great.
Unless it's someone we already know, they should introduce the mother early in order for us to invest in their relationship. I don't want a cop-out. Like the mother jumping in at the last moment and she's somebody we don't know.
ReplyDeleteI hope she will be doing more movies and not another tv series :)
ReplyDeleteJust one word:
ReplyDeleteNoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Oh, and few more words: this is obviously about the money, not about the stories. There are no more stories. That is why everyone wants to meet the mother. I don't, nor do I care about her, but it would be nice if the show became interesting again....
Season 8 has been disappointing so far. But I think they can bring it back and give it a strong ending.
ReplyDeleteJust because the title of the show is How I Met Your Mother, doesn't mean it makes it absurd to discover the story beyond meeting the Mother. 90% of the show was still about how he became to meet the Mother eventually.
ReplyDeleteLook at Two and a Half Men, one man is dead and the half man is completely absent from the show (and leaving after this season). So the show is more like Two Men (or One Man and Ashton Kutcher)
Well, as much as I get your point and I don´t care about the mother as well, it´s not that simple. They used very often clues to the mother as cliffhangers or centered whole episodes around her, so it WAS about the mother and it WAS a mystery.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that we'll get another season it's still a hit show and people love it. I can let this show leave yet when there's more stories to be told. A season 9, it will include how Ted goes from B/R's wedding to meeting the mother and finally we'll get to know who the mother is. It will have Barney & Robin as newlyweds living together and being in newlywedded bliss. So, a season 9 is a good thing because we will see the show not rushing to end the series and I get to see my BR have a full season together and married.
ReplyDeleteYeah and dropped in ratings and long time fans hate the show. Being able to take a certain direction doesn´t mean you have to go down that road.
ReplyDeleteYou nailed it!
ReplyDeleteThat´s a good and fresh idea! So it probably won´t happen. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI hoped the same thing. Even if she would have appeared in a recurring capacity, it would have been so great!
ReplyDeleteI don´t know. I hope we will see her.
ReplyDeleteTHANK you. It's like the mother is supposed to just be this continued tease. Who the mother is, I couldn't care less - and I never cared any more than I do now. I want to hear the story of these five people, I don't need to know who the mother is.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's a mystery. Nobody's watching the show just for the sake of finding out who the mother is, I don't believe that anyone who's watching the show really wants to know WHO the mother is (we've never met her, she obviously won't play that big a role on-screen anyway because finding her means the show will probably be over soon), I think if anything, people are just curious as to how Ted and the mother meet and what happens once they've met. If anything, that's the mystery. I don't suppose one wants to know how the mother looks, etc.
ReplyDeletethe other option was to cancel the show... and considering it is still doing good in ratings, they wouldn't have cancelled it just like that.
ReplyDeleteAnd unlike TAAHM, HIMYM still has it's original cast and showing Ted getting married after meeting the mother isn't considered beating a dead horse.
It would in fact add freshness after they can stop stalling. We're all aching to meet the Mother. We're also aching to get to know her
How could you say NOBODY is watching the show to find out who the mother is? I watched it in the beginning for this and still am, partly, though I laid my ambitions there to rest, like my desire to know the answers on LOST.
ReplyDeleteYou´re right. I´m just afraid that the renewal means the storytelling will stall again up until the last third of season 9.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the possibility of more stalling kind of makes me nauseous too.
ReplyDeleteGuess we gotta wait and what road TPTB decides to take.
oh so much THIS.
ReplyDeleteYou´re right ;-)
ReplyDeleteI still stand by that the teases are part of the longer narrative of the story and not a mystery. In my mind it is just a way to give chronology to the stories of each episode... a way of connecting them. We may watch in episode and seasonal format, but in my mind I always considered the show to be like one long-winded meandering story a dad is telling his kids.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, I assumed we would never meet the mother or at most she would be in the final episode and turn out to be someone we have already met.
I actually LIKE the idea of never meeting her directly and especially not having episodes about her or Ted's relationship with her. That is just not part of the show to me since the entire series's premise is Ted's life before he met their mother.
Okay, not a part to you, but a part to many other people. ;-)
ReplyDeleteIf you're only watching the show to find out who the mother is gonna be, then why watch it at all? You could just wait for the episode where it finally will be revealed.
ReplyDeleteSeriously. The show is great because of the characters and storylines and all the fun stuff happening during all these seasons, and really really NOT because everyone's so anxious about finding out who the mother is. It doesn't matter who she is, as long as Ted's happy and everything's shiny with rainbow poop.
