The Game of Thrones team is creating a “super-sized” third season of the hit series.
With showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss tackling content from the first half (roughly) of author George R.R. Martin’s largest Song of Ice and Fire novel (the 973-page fan-favorite A Storm of Swords), the writer-producer duo are delivering slightly longer episodes to the network. There’s still 10, but you’ll get a little more each week than previous seasons.
“There’s almost another full episode’s worth of extra minutes spread across the season,” Weiss says. “One of the great liberties with HBO is we’re not forced to come in at a specific time. We can’t be under 50 minutes or over 60, but that gives us a lot of flexibility.”
“A super-sized season, as befitting Storm of Swords,” Benioff adds. “Last year we had a lot of 52-minute episodes. This year is a lot of 56, 57.”

ReplyDeleteThis is great news!
ReplyDeleteIF we cannot get 12 episodes I guess getting an extra episodes worth of minutes stretched over the season is a nice surprise!
I have to confess I thought that they had added an episode or two from the title of the article... but still, more GoT in any form is a good thing. :)
ReplyDeleteYes yes yes! More GoT is always welcome!
ReplyDeleteThere so long already I'd rather have 12 or 13 episodes.
ReplyDeleteAwesome, would love more eps but understand timing and budget is tight having longer eps though is great.
ReplyDeleteGreat news! I´m sure I´ll love every minute!
ReplyDeleteLet's hope those minutes are full of moments from the books. Not added crap with, like, not!Jeyne and Robb.
ReplyDeleteYay, more nudity! ;D
ReplyDeleteIiiiiiiinteresting.... and honestly I think a good move from both TPTB and the network!
ReplyDeleteI was expecting maybe an extra 5 episodes two months after season 3 so they can have a season 3B or something.
ReplyDeleteA few extra minutes is just not enough. So basically, they're just using the exact same limit of time they've had and using those extra 4 minutes. Sorry, not feeling it.
I just got into the series, but I just finished Season 2 and I'm ready for more, more, more! I'll gladly settle for longer episodes!
