Welcome to SpoilerTV's weekly edition of Fringe Friday!
We've had our obligatory...uhm... trip into the mind of Walter, and we found our black umbrella within the labyrinthine confines of what Walter subconsciously stored in his thoughts and fears. These included the haunting image of his deceased lab assistant, egging him on to find and delve into his past works and therefore his own previous consciousness that he's been so terrified of becoming throughout the show, and most notably this season. But young Nina was also there to steer him true and away from the nefarious deeds of his past. However, from the final image of 5.09 we see that what he fears is not so easily remedied, nor is it going to just go away if he wills it so.
So far we've gone through a multitude of VHS tapes, and they've kept the team searching for the missing pieces of the puzzle. I quietly loathe the fact that they have to rely on tapes every episode, but it seems to be working correctly to push the plan onward. We're still getting doses of LSD-drenched goodness and character growth...as well as the occasional Fringe event as well. I feel like it's still all just setup for the last 2 episodes though -- as if they're peddling around what they want to do in the last 2 hours. We will see, but perhaps we'll finally meet Donald, perhaps he'll be a decent character and a good surprise, and it'll lead to a breathtaking series finale--the one that we've now been promised by our faithful producer J.H. Wyman.
Today's topic: How well do you think the finale will be tied into the past of Fringe? Do you think it will strongly mirror the pilot, frame for frame in a sense, or will it push into new territory to solve and finish the story for good?

Guys, unless I am mistaken, this is our last FRINGE FRIDAY of 2012! Let's make it count! I really loved the last episode (I will cherish the Walter moments over how much the story was pushed along) and I think we're gonna have an eventful fall finale... :)

ReplyDeleteWell I think "Black Blotter" presents an idea that "the plan" needs stopped. -We see him fight himself, try to slow his mind down, but alas it didn't matter...the rest of the Fringe team continued on without him and he remembered "black umbrella" anyways! -All of the Walters keep taking children from their homes and have used them in warfare...So I kind of suspect that these bread crumbs are more about the characters trying to change all of their previous and alongside incarnates' fates, and not about fulfilling "this" plan.
ReplyDeleteWith that being said I think we have several opportunities to tie back to the rest of the series, as there have been a great deal of season 3 allusions in season 5 already. They could have Donald be someone we know (although I think we might not meet him), we can have a reset of sorts, or Peter can still be connected to the machines and this experience is the only way to save everyone, because it is a test to prove that they have changed, because Peter believed they all could.
