Thanks to Artur for the heads up.
Read the review and then let us know who you think says that line.
After Episode 11 ended, I had to sit back and think about what I just saw. The episode itself is another solid watch with good performances all around. And as I’ve said before, if you haven’t enjoyed the last few episodes because of the “soap opera” vibe, then there’s more fuel for the fire here. The final 10 minutes of the episode is filled with a nice, and unexpected, bit of suspense, as well as a resolution that has some real emotional weight and power. But the one thought that entered my mind as the end credits began to roll was...
“Did THAT just happen?”
I smiled, I shook my head, I was slightly confused, a little giddy, a little disappointed, but in the end... I was happy that things took a turn I didn’t expect (at least at this moment in time). Consider this moment to be the angry/happy chatter come Monday morning. More on this at the end...
It’s really hard at this stage to get into the specifics of the storyline without giving away some juicy spoilers, so I apologize if our traditional non-spoiler questions/answers might be a bit vague. Suffice to say that, as we can all figure out, the episode centres on the Dexter/Deb/Hanna relationship and Laguerta’s investigation. Some of our other “side plots” get a nod, and in a light-SPOILER fashion: Bautista officially gives his notice, and Quinn gets the polite kiss-off from Nadia. But that’s not what we’re really interested in, right?
Episode 11 hammers home the idea that Dexter is finally looking towards the future. A future with Hanna. Growing old together and having a real life. A nice flash-forward gives you a brief hint what that might look like. But a dream is just a dream when outside forces, in the form of Deb’s venom towards Hanna and Laguerta’s insistence that Dexter’s the BHB, conspire to ruin the fantasy.
An event occurs that makes Dexter examine two of the most important people in his life: Can Hanna really be trusted? Or has Deb’s mental state gone off the rails in her determination to arrest Hanna?
Matthews has his promised chat with Dexter. Will he interrogate Dexter hoping for a major slip-up? Will he warn his old family friend that Laguerta’s on his tail? Or will Dexter use his mastery of excuses to get out of another jam? Needless to say that by the end of the conversation, Dexter knows that Laguerta’s still on the case (and getting VERY close to the truth), and it’s a development that he shares with Deb with interesting results.
Another plot development involves an old “friend” of Dexter’s who has just made parole. Someone who Dexter hasn’t seen since he was a child sitting in that puddle of blood many years ago. The temptation to “reunite” is too strong to ignore, a fact not lost on a very supportive Hanna. But will Dexter find closure or will it be his undoing?
All of these plot threads are tied together in one form or another. As we’re getting down to the final few episodes, the personal stakes have never been higher.
But I will leave you with one juicy tid-bit....
This line of dialogue is from the BIGGEST SPOILER of the episode. It’s either said by Dexter, Deb or Hanna. You may be able to easily figure out who said it, but it’s the context of the quote that matters the most (and it might not be exactly what you think). I won’t confirm anything, so consider this a fun little game that you’ll have to wait until Sunday to see how you did. I’m sure it’ll make for some fun theories and reading. And the quote is...
“You should’ve killed me”.
Enjoy the episode Dexheads! The final endgame is almost here! Let the excitement, joy, anger, and theories on the conclusion begin!
Until the next time!
