CINEMAX IN JANUARY PRESENTS THE SERIES PREMIERE OF BANSHEE
From Alan Ball (the creator and executive producer of “True Blood”), this action series follows Lucas Hood (Antony Starr), an ex-convict who improbably becomes sheriff of a rural, Amish-area town while searching for a woman he last saw 15 years ago, when he gave himself up to police to let her escape after a jewel heist. Living in Banshee under an assumed name, Carrie Hopewell (Ivana Milicevic) is now married to the local DA, has two children (one of whom may be Lucas’), and is trying to keep a low profile. The town is riddled by corruption, with an Amish overlord, Kai Proctor (Ulrich Thomsen), building an empire of drugs, gambling and graft. With the help of boxer turned-barkeeper Sugar Bates (Frankie Faison), Lucas brings a measure of tough justice to Banshee. Meanwhile, Mr. Rabbit (Ben Cross), the NY mobster he and Carrie once
ripped off, closes in with vengeance on his mind. (Executive producers: Greg Yaitanes, Alan Ball, Peter Macdissi, David Schickler, Jonathan Tropper; producer: Stephanie Laing.)
-- Episode 01: “Pilot”: A recently paroled master thief assumes the identity of Lucas Hood, sheriff-in-waiting of Banshee, Pa. Keeping his history a secret, Lucas befriends boxer-turned-bartender Sugar Bates, and settles into his new life as Banshee’s sheriff. Lucas inadvertently gets tangled up in the rampant corruption of shunned Amish gangster Kai Proctor, while keeping a vigilant eye out for Mr. Rabbit, the New York mob boss who wants revenge against Lucas and former partner and lover Carrie for the jewel heist that landed Lucas in prison. (Written by Jonathan Tropper and David Schickler; directed by Greg Yaitanes.) (TV-MA) [AC, AL, GV, N, SC] ESP Playdates: 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 30
-- Episode 02: “The Rave”: Proctor’s desperate underling Hanson decides to hold a rave in an Amish barn, selling homemade E pills stolen from Proctor to Banshee youth including Deva, Carrie’s rebellious daughter. Catching wind of the plan, Lucas and his team orchestrate a raid, but the effects of a tainted batch of pills send many revelers into convulsions, with one notable fatality. (Written by Jonathan Tropper & David Schickler; directed by SJ Clarkson.) (TV-MA) [AC, AL, GV, N, SC] ESP Playdates: 18, 19, 21, 22, 23 and 30
-- Episode 03: “Meet the New Boss”: A mixed martial arts title bout is being planned at the local Kinaho Moon Casino, run by tribe leader Benjamin Longshadow and his son Alex. Huge profits are anticipated for Banshee investors, but the enterprise is threatened when the champion angers Lucas. (Written by Jonathan Tropper & David Schickler; directed by Ole Christian Madsen) (TV-MA) [AC, AL, GV, N, SC, RP] ESP Playdates: 25, 26, 28, 29 and 30
