Update: 27th Dec The Mobile site has been updated today with a "Select your Show" widget at the top of the page to allow you to filter all posts by the show you select.

We've also improved the way our video player displays on a mobile device.

Update: 26th Dec Hope you've all recovered from the excesses of yesterday! We've done a few small updates to make the homepage and article pages load even quicker. We'll post some more stats when we've got more performance data.

We've also improved the load speed of the site when you access it on a mobile. m.spoilertv.com. The mobile site should now load quicker and allow you to click on show labels to filter by shows. The comments are now fully enabled for all mobiles allowing you to both read and add your own comments.

Original Post

We are always looking at making accessing SpoilerTV as easy as possible and one of the things we've been doing recently is to make the site load as fast as possible so you can access the information you want quickly.

We've recently been doing a lot of optimizations to make the homepage www.spoilertv.com load as fast as we can and to display the content that matters to you a soon as possible.

We're pleased to say that we've now got the average homepage loading time to under 6 seconds. People with faster computers and connections will see an even quicker time. This average is for all users, no matter what their computer and connection speed are.

As you can see, this time last year the homepage loading speed was approaching an average of 30 seconds, which was far too slow. The chart below shows how we've slowly managed to reduce the loading time of the site.

We hope you find this new faster loading site a more pleasurably experience. We'll be looking at ways in the new year to improve the load times even further.

In comparison here are some of the average loading times of other sites that I've measured recently.

E!Online - 8 Seconds
Zap2It - 8.5 Seconds
TVGuide - 9.5 Seconds
Tvovermind - 11 Seconds
EW - 12 Seconds
TVline - 16 Seconds

  8. Good thing we can't get speeding tickets on the internet, otherwise SpoilerTV surely would have its license revoked ! Congrats on the great job, Andy, and happy Holidays to you and all SpTV members !

  10. Thanks for always looking to improve this site and our experience. Some sites (*cough* E! Online *cough*) just make changes but don't listen to their visitors' complaints. So thank you for thinking of us!

Interesting that those sites load at those speeds. I've never really noticed them loading that slowly. Especially on TVLine (although if you add in the time it takes to go through the 4 featured stories once, it gets to at least 16 seconds). Then again, I use Chrome and have noticed a MAJOR improvement over Firefox and Internet Explorer.

  11. Great. Faster loading times saves time and you can scour STV more efficiently. :)

Do you have a tool to calculate the loading times for different sites? Or was it a stop-watch? ;)
