-Ratings Breakdown:
The Voice on NBC has, no doubt, shifted the pendulum on Monday. ABC remains the network to beat in the overnights care of Dancing With the Stars, but NBC is a lock among adults 18-49 and the competing networks remain on the double-digit downside. One single series can change the entire fortunes of a network.

The all-star edition of Dancing With the Stars (which has not worked to its benefit) opened with a dominant 9.9 rating/15 share in the overnights from 8-10 p.m. But year-to-year, that was a loss of 23 percent (versus a 12.8/19 on 11/07/11). Still potent Castle at 10 p.m. won the time period with a 6.9/12, but that was off by 14 percent from the 8.0/14 one year earlier.

Aforementioned The Voice on NBC scored a solid 7.2/11 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m., which built from failed year-ago occupant The Sing Off (2.7/ 4 on 11/07/11) by a massive 167 percent. And The Voice will, no doubt, lead the evening among coveted adults 18-49.

At 10 p.m., Revolution on NBC finished third in the overnights with a 4.8/ 8. But that beat year-ago occupant Rock Center With Brian Williams (2.7/ 5 on 11/07/11) by 78 percent and it will lead the time period in the demo. My concern regarding Revolution is the upcoming hiatus, which tends not to work to the advantage of any new series.

Over at CBS, the bleeding is clearly visible. Veteran How I Met Your Mother opened with a third-place 4.9/ 7 at 8 p.m., which dipped by 27 percent year-to-year (versus a 6.7/10 on 11/07/11). And that led into recently introduced Partners, which slipped to a fourth-place 3.9/ 6 at 8:30 p.m. Comparably, Partners dropped from year-ago occupant 2 Broke Girls (7.3/11 on 11/07/11) by a massive 47 percent. And this could, officially, spell the end of the Max Mutchnick/David Kohan clinker.

Relocated 2 Broke Girls perked up to a third-place 5.9/ 9 at 9 p.m., which built from Partners by 51 percent. But one year earlier Two and a Half Men scored a 9.2/13 in the time period. And the weaker lead-in support has had a negative impact on perfectly compatible Mike & Molly (5.8/ 9: -21 percent) and Hawaii Five-O (#2: 5.2/ 8: -20 percent) from 9:30-11 p.m.

Elsewhere, freshman drama The Mob Doctor returned on Fox after three week absence with a mere 2.3/ 3 in the overnights from 9-10 p.m. Comparably, that trailed lead-in Bones (#3: 4.6/ 7 at 8 p.m.) by 50 percent. And The CW was barely visible care of 90210 (#5: 0.9/ 1) and soon-to-conclude Gossip Girl (#5: 0.7/ 1).

  1. Is that good or bad for Bones? I can never really tell with Marc's analysis.

  5. Yeah. I thought it would be better because of the three-week break, but I guess since the episode aired in a few cable channels in other countries last week, and all the story of the episode has been flying around since then, quite a few people didn't bother watching the episode.

  6. Indeed.. but the episode itself wasn't so great anyway.

  7. Ouch for Revolution. Hoping they can rebound. Considering the factors of weather and other things, there's actually a viable reason for ratings to be down all around I suppose.

  8. I do not understand

    because under castle 1.9

  9. I'm beginning to see a common theme. Last season, I remember Hawaii Five-0's ratings being through the roof. This season, they are struggling a bit. Not sure whether it's the timeslot competitors, but I'm a little disappointed at it.

  10. Revolution needs to get some upward momentum before it goes on hiatus.........
Rarely does a lengthy hiatus help a new series. More than one freshman series in the last few years has had a big drop-off after a long hiatus.

  11. 1.9 demo for Castle....mmhhh....not so good. But at least the number of viewers is fine,

Well, they could sex Up Castle a little (actors showing more skin, sex scenes, etc) and then the demos would definitely improve. *evil laugh* I bet Caskett shippers wouldn't mind. ai know I don't.

  13. I find the dynamic of Hurricane Sandy interesting...

It seems like it has not affected some shows' ratings at all, and others seem to have taken a downturn in the last week. How much is coincidence and how much is due to Sandy or other factors? I guess time will sort it out.....

  14. I really hope Revolution stabilises or increases before the dreaded 4 month Hiatus... I'm worried the break will kill the show.

  15. Good for Bones, especially after the 4-week hiatus. :)

And does anyone know its half-hours?

  16. 4 month hiatus? I thought it would be back in January? WTH does NBC insist on killing their shows? The show is doing so good and it got more episodes and yet they wanna do that? When will it be back?

    ReplyDelete
  17. No, it's sticking with The Voice, so it will be back March 25th (I think)- thus 4 month Hiatus. I get why they're doing this- The Voice is their only rating juggernaut and Revolution probably wouldn't do as well with a different lead in, so they want to air it only with The Voice. But 4 month Hiatus can kill the show, even if Revolution is doing well so far.

  18. According to zapit (tvbythenumbers) revolution and 2 broke girls both got downward adjusted by 1 tenth.

That seems to be all the adjustments though, not a lot.

  19. Yeah I don't know. It's like it COULD be but we really have no clue lol
