Ratings Breakdown:
The 46th Annual CMA Awards led ABC to Thursday overnight victory on this first evening in November, with an 8.7 rating/14 share from 8-11 p.m. (peaking with a 9.1/14 in the 9 p.m. half-hour). Comparably, this was 11 percent below the 9.8/16 on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011 (which translated into 16.40 million viewers and a 4.8 rating/13 share among adults 18-49, based on the Live Plus Same Day results). Despite CBS leading off with The Big Bang Theory, ABC should have no trouble winning the night in the demo.
Aforementioned The Big Bang Theory took top-rated overnight honors for the evening, as usual, with a 10.9/17 at 8 p.m. Comparably, that was up by 11 percent year-to-year (versus a 9.8/16 on 11/03/11). Next was veteran Two and a Half Men at a second-place 8.5/13 at 8:30 p.m. (one-tenth of a rating point behind competing The CMA Awards on ABC), which was 23 percent above year-ago occupant Rules of Engagement (6.9/11 on 11/03/11). Sophomore Person of Interest followed with a second-place 8.7/14 from 9-10 p.m. (which built by 10 percent year-to-year despite facing The CMA Awards), followed by episode five of Elementary at a series-low 7.0/12 in the overnights at 10 p.m. Comparably, that trailed year-ago occupant The Mentalist (8.7/15 on 11/03/11) by 20 percent. Needless to say, this is not the best season for new Eye net freshman product.
Third overall for the evening was two live hours of The X Factor on Fox, which averaged a 4.6/ 7 from 8-10 p.m. Compared to a one-hour edition on the year-ago evening (7.3/12 on 11/03/11), that was a loss of a considerable 37 percent.
Elsewhere, a two-hour repeat of The Voice on NBC averaged a 2.8/ 4 from 8-10 p.m. Rock Center With Brian Williams, which focused on Hurricane Sandy, followed with a 3.8/ 7 at 10 p.m., which was its highest overnight rating since Sept. 13 with growth of 23 percent from one week earlier (3.1/ 5 on Oct. 25).
The Vampire Diaries on The CW opened with a 2.1/ 3 in the 8 p.m. hour (down 16 percent from the 2.5/ 4 one year earlier), followed by a series-low 1.3/ 2 for week four of Beauty and the Beast at 9 p.m. Comparably, fading Beauty and the Beast slipped by 24 percent from failed year-ago occupant The Secret Circle (1.7/ 3 on 11/03/11). Four-week overnight track for Beauty and the Beast: 2.4/ 4 – 1.5/ 2 – 1.5/ 2 – 1.3/ 2.
