MOVIES : A two-parter for Bond 24 & 25 ?

The producers of the James Bond franchise have made a deal with Skyfall writer John Logan to write not one but two 007 films. Logan pitched an original two-movie arc to Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson while they were shooting Skyfall and he has already begun writing the scripts.

If plans work out, this would be the first Bond film with a storyline to be played out over multiple films *, and it certainly makes it feasible that the pictures could be shot back-to-back.

Daniel Craig has renewed his contract beyond Skyfall for two more Bond films.

* Technically, Casino Royale & Quantum of Solace were directly connected as well, with Bond's actions in QoS driven by Vesper's death occurring in CR. And literally connected, too, since QoS picked up about 10 minutes after Casino Royale ended. Okay, the core story wasn't about poker / Le Chiffre anymore but oil / Dominic Greene instead, but still, it's more connection than most other Bond films ever had.

This time around, it's worth pointing out that John Logan will not be joined by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade in the writing of these sequels. Purvis and Wade are writers on the James Bond franchise since 1999. They have written the last 5 films : The World Is Not Enough (co-written with Bruce Fernstein, writer of GoldenEye and Tomorrow Never Dies), Die Another Day, Casino Royale (co-written with Paul Haggis), Quantum of Solace (co-written with Paul Haggis) and Skyfall.

Before Skyfall, John Logan had (co-)written great films such as Any Given Sunday, Gladiator, Sinbad, The Last Samurai, The Aviator, Sweeney Todd, Rango, Coriolanus and Hugo. He has written the upcoming Darren Aronosky film Noah (the Biblical figure), currently filming with Russell Crowe, Anthony Hopkins and Emma Watson in leading roles.

Ending the Daniel Craig-era with a two-parter seems like a fantastic idea to me. Do you agree?

And, by the way, did you like Skyfall? I for one think it's one of the best Bond films ever, maybe even better than Casino Royale, and I thought it could never be topped. Regarding the story, I'd say Casino Royale is an inch better, but the directing and especially the photography of Skyfall are just gorgeous, and hopefully Roger Deakins and Sam Mendes will return for the sequels - even though I read Mendes might not be coming back, but there's a certain Christopher Nolan who's interested in making a James Bond film so I wouldn't be too unhappy if he's the one getting the gig.

Here's a little poll to see what you thought of the film - but please develop with a comment and share with us what you think of that possible upcoming two-part story.
